Problem while resetting Macbook Pro, invisible startup disk

    Posted: 07 May 2018 02:59 PM PDT

    Hello all,

Today, while I was trying to factory reset my Macbook Pro, I ran into some complications. After installing the OS onto Macintosh HD, there was a black screen with a flashing folder on it. I did some digging and found out that means I didn't set the start up disk.

But when I restarted the menu nd opened my Disk Utility, the Macintosh HD was gone.

I tried partitioning and reinstalling multiple times, and it always comes down to these 3 routes:

1 A flashing folder after Installation, and the drive is gone

2 The drive (Macintosh HD) is there but doesn't show up in the startup disk menu

3 The drive is gone, and the SSD formatting option is greyed out.

Can anybody tell me how I can solve this? I'd like to do it without having to go to the Apple store. Thanks in advance!

How to get Microsoft Word "100%" view to be actually 100%??

    Posted: 07 May 2018 09:59 AM PDT

I'm putting this here because I've never encountered this problem until I got a Mac. When I set the zoom to 100% on Word, instead of it being a lifelike size, it is wayyyyy zoomed out. I've checked the size and it's definitely set to A4.

    MacBook Pro external drives issues

    Posted: 07 May 2018 11:56 PM PDT

Hey, I have MacBook Pro 2017 13" and I recently updated on latest High Sierra and just like many others got myself a problem with reading external drives. So did all of the steps I found on the internet - reset SMC, reformat disc to APSF and all of the others. Anyway I was not able to connect the drive directly - I had to keep it connected and restart the system to have it mounted. Well it is annoying but I can live with it for now. Now I have mounted, connected drive so I proceed with backing up on Time Machine. I goes ok, I think much faster with APSF format unlike many people on internet said it wouldn't. I have backed up 100 GB and the drive suddenly unmounts itself. Since then, everytime I connect it (whether directly or with restart) drive runs so slowly that Time Machine can't continue with backing up. Does anyone know where the issue might be now? Thanks

Time Machine: Would a 4TB Ext.HDD suffice for backing up my 2.5TB MacBook?

    Posted: 07 May 2018 12:31 PM PDT

I currently have a 3TB WD ext. HDD which has failed me a number of times now at backing up my MacBook past the 1st backup, and has been stuck in an unformattable half-encrypted limbo hell, which I cannot seem to release it from.

4TB is only 1TB more than what I already have/had... but 4TB is NEARLY 2x the size of my MacBook, so I figured it's worth an ask.

I don't have a working backup right now and I'm stressed as the days grow longer..... I need one, I've already suffered the loss that comes with data wipeouts... oh, the heartbreak -- the sheer depression.

    It's a $40 difference between a nice 4TB option and a no frills 6TB option.

$40 may be petty for 2TB, I realize this. I'm on a budget lol

resetpassword on high aierra shows no users

    Posted: 07 May 2018 11:59 AM PDT

my imac just accidentally stopped taking my password (I know it's correct and caps lock isn't on). I googled it and found out a method with using "resetpassword" command in terminal in recovery mode. however, the reset password utility shows 0 users whatsoever. is there a way to fix that? The disc doesn't have firevault. I know I could make another admin account, log into it, then create another with the name my user prwviously had, and use its home folder, than log into it and delete the second account, my I am just curious why this doesn't work

Windows 10 April Update is partly incompatible with Bootcamp

    Posted: 07 May 2018 03:32 AM PDT

I carefully followed both directions off Apple and Microsoft support pages when I attempted to install the full version of 64-bit Windows 10 Home with April Update through Bootcamp, then it immediately halted, because it was not able to download the support software from the Apple server. How can I resolve this frustrating problem? Do I have to wait for Apple to release the newest support software when they release macOS High Sierra 10.14.5 10.13.5 this summer?

The latest operating system I have on my MacBook Air is macOS High Sierra 10.14.4 10.13.4.

Edit: corrected version of macOS High Sierra
