    App subscriptions suck

    Posted: 06 May 2018 06:58 PM PDT

App subscriptions have gotten out of hand. I understand developers need to make money and I don't mind paying once in a while for a major update, or one time fee or to unlock some features but subscriptions no. They add up to quick. Any app that goes the subscription route I will more then likely uninstall. I think other developers will make their own version of subscription apps and sell them for a one time fee.

Would anyone else like one made?

    Posted: 06 May 2018 02:37 PM PDT

https://imgur.com/a/smZn4yu/ (updated design below) It's a iPad extension type of thing. I use my iPad Pro 9.7 for notes in school, and when I use it my hand is falls off the side of the iPad, and sometimes it's uncomfortable like that. So I've been looking for something that extends the sides of the iPad to keep my hand level with screen like a normal piece of paper can, but no one makes something like that ( or at least I can't find it), so I made one myself on fusion. I'm going to be making one of these for myself for school, and I see that this could be useful for other people in art and other note takers. So I'm willing to make more for others if they would like one and think they could use it. So if so pm me or comment below and I'll let you know if I'm able to do that. And also if it's not to crazy you could tell what you would like to change like extending it on all sides. But let me know.

Here at Texas A&M, being a engineering student we are able to use the wood and metal Cnc to make what ever we want we just gotta supply materials, so wood. Possibly Aluminium but most likely wood for lightness. Just saying on how it would be made. They supply the tools so I don't have to deal with that. I could 3D print it, but I've been testing it out with a 3D printed version on this, but surface finish isn't great, so I think wood would be great for this project. I did design it with the iPad 9.7 in mind so I would have to adjusts the dimensions for the 10.5in iPad, and 12.9 (wouldn't think many 12.9in iPad users would want one of these).

These pictures are multiple iterations and the one with The iPad in portrait is a 12.9in iPad.

https://reddit.com/r/ipad/comments/8hebs5/would_anyone_like_one_made_also/ Here is a post I made about it in the iPad subreddit.

Edit: here's a updated design of the board https://imgur.com/a/QAlOx1F/

Here a google survey so people can be on a list of who wants one, alows me find out how much materials I will need. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScT0yijOm1AMYoAmtOel6P1ccDtwyZJh94WUSEo3cTufb__sw/viewform?usp=sf_link

TIL if you rotate the dial on your Apple Watch when the display is off, it gradually increases brightness.

    Posted: 06 May 2018 11:43 AM PDT

I really don't know how to explain this but hope you understand. Also, this seems useful when you can't really rotate your wrist and look at the time, if you just want a glance, you can do this too. Hope this helped.

I've been a Windows power user for the entire time I've owned a computer. After 1 week with a Macbook Pro, I feel like I've got the hang of it, but are there any cool features you guys think I might have missed?

    Posted: 06 May 2018 11:55 AM PDT

I've dug through System Prefs and set up basically everything the way I want it, and I messed with everything that I could find to mess with.

But for you guys who've been on MacOS for your whole lives, what are some really cool, hidden things that I might be missing?

Apple now performing rear camera repairs for iPhone X Face ID issues

    Posted: 06 May 2018 07:51 AM PDT

I don’t get Apple’s Pricing for the iPad 2018 and the iPad Mini 4.

    Posted: 06 May 2018 06:14 AM PDT

So, the iPad Mini 4 is quite an old device now. The only available model you can buy brand new is the 128GB model, costing £399. This model is 7.9 inches and has the A8 processor.

The 2018 iPad (6th gen), costs £319 brand new for the 32GB model or £409 for the 128GB model. This model is 9.7 inches, has the A10 processor and has so much more features that justifies the extra £10.

So, why is the mini still for sale or why hasn't it been reduced drastically? I don't get why anyone would buy the Mini 4.

    Apple Music artists pictures

Does it drive someone else nuts that when you go to your library's artist page, some of them don't have pictures and are just a blank icon? It gives me anxiety.

Are the AirPods supposed to take forever to switch between devices?

    Posted: 06 May 2018 09:28 AM PDT

I have a MacBook, iPhone and an Apple TV. When I switch my AirPods to connect to another device it takes around 15-20 seconds and around half of the time it doesn't connect so I have to click on AirPods again.

I've restarted all of my devices multiple times and the firmware is up to date. What gives?

    Just applecare not applecare plus?

    Posted: 06 May 2018 07:14 PM PDT

How do you enroll into regular applecare not the one with plus? I have never been into the accident because I've been extremely careful with laptops and I seriously do not need plus features.

Is there still a way to enroll regular apple care on my Macbook?

    Thank you.

How long should it take FaceID to learn a new pair of sunglasses?

    Posted: 07 May 2018 01:42 AM PDT

I've been trying to unlock my phone with a new pair on sunglasses on for 20 minutes now and it just doesn't work. It won't even register attempts, it's as if it doesn't know there is a face in front of it.

I tried it with my other sunglasses and it works really well, only difference is these ones are very reflective and heavily tinted red. Could that be causing issues with the infra scanner?

How to stop music from automatically playing when I plug my phone into the car?

    Posted: 06 May 2018 09:47 AM PDT

My iPhone can connect to my car via Bluetooth or via USB, but I mostly connect to it via USB.

Most of the time, I connect my phone to my car to of course blast music that is on my phone when I'm driving. However, sometimes I don't want that.

Sometimes I just wanna have the GPS voice play through the car speakers or sometimes I just want to charge my phone. But whenever I do connect my to the car via USB, it always automatically plays my music.

    How do I stop that?

Trouble with the trackpad on Macbook Air 2015.

    Posted: 07 May 2018 12:43 AM PDT

Hey guys, as the title says I'm having a bit of trouble with the trackpad on my Macbook Air 2015. If the device is left idle with the screen propped open for a while, the trackpad is becoming somewhat unresponsive. This has happened twice now where the pointer refuses to move properly, requiring frantic swipes just to move a couple of inches. Restarting has fixed the problems both times but I'm afraid of it becoming a permanent problem. I use JiTouch 2 as well and all the gestures are unresponsive when this happens. I'm running El Capitan 10.11.16 and this problem has only shown up this week. No physical damage to the device (it could use a little wipe down with a microfiber cloth though) and I know it's not my fingers being greasy or anything because it works like normal again when I restart. Any idea on what I can do? I'm out of warranty as well so getting it repaired/replaced would cost a bomb so I'm really hoping this is a software issue I can fix by myself. Anybody else with a similar experience?

Which Macbook to get to begin making apps with XCode?

    Posted: 07 May 2018 12:27 AM PDT

I recently started learning Swift and am making apps, but I have a really old Macbook Pro that's about to kick the bucket. It can't really run xCode anymore. My friend has a 2015 macbook air which he doesn't use anymore, and I was wondering if anyone has had experience with using xCode on it and how much it's worth today? Or is it better to just shell out for a new Macbook Air/Pro?

    MBP 2017 nTB 512GB SSD/16GB RAM left shift/keyboard fixed!

    Posted: 06 May 2018 12:09 PM PDT

Just wanted to share my experience with the 2017 butterfly keyboards. I just had my left shift key replaced at the Apple Store. Took 25 mins and they showed me the old key that they changed out. When I made the genius appointment, I wrote down in the comments trying the compressed air solution they have up at https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT205662. When I brought it into the Apple Store, they asked if I lifted up the key to try and clean it and I said no. They went to the back to take off the key and cleaned it. They came back, but they didn't fix the issue. Genius went back and replaced the actual key and now it works fine! He said if that didn't work, the next steps would be to replace the entire top case.

I purchased the laptop in Sept 2017. The key had been acting up since Nov/Dec 2017 but I couldn't afford the presumed downtime of having it in the repair depot, so I waited until the school year was over. I expected them to change the entire top case (battery, keyboard, etc) like all the other posts on this sub and /r/macbookpro, but apparently, they have the ability to change individual keys now. The repair was covered under warranty, and now I am going to buy AC+ just in case.
