Siri is terrible over Bluetooth. What is up with this?

    Posted: 05 May 2018 08:08 PM PDT

Siri's ability to both hear your voice and speak back to you takes a nosedive if you are using a Bluetooth device (such as in the car). When you invoke Siri, it suddenly takes up to 30 seconds for Siri to even begin listening, then when she speaks back to you, she sounds like she's in a wind tunnel and the voice quality is horrendous (yet other audio output such as music/podcasts sounds crystal clear). Why is this and why hasn't it been fixed? It also seems that the microphone used is the bluetooth mic which often is much worse than the built-in iPhone Mic. This is embarassing.

My friend's a big fan of the physical + minimalist QLOCKTWO and made a free screensaver version for Mac for personal use. Thought others might enjoy it when I saw it on his screen and he's released it in a tweet here.

Asking HomePod for iMessages from The Home Depot via Business Chat is oddly specific...

    Posted: 05 May 2018 12:35 PM PDT

So, I'm planning to build an iron pipe shelf for my office and wanted to know the cost of half inch iron pipe at my local Home Depot so I popped into Business Chat and struck up a conversation with The Home Depot.

I was in my office scoping things out and asked my HomePod if I had any new messages to see if they had responded and the response I got was super weird.

Instead of saying, "You have one new message from The Home Depot" like you'd expect, it gave me the hyper specific ID for the particular Home Depot Business Chat rep. 😂

A little painful to listen to.

My experience in exchanging a faulty Apple Watch Sport band for a new one.

    Posted: 05 May 2018 08:28 PM PDT

    Hello Redditors!

I wanted to share my experience with you guys about me exchanging my Apple Watch band. Let's straight get to the point.

So I have two local Apple Stores near me and both are really close to each other, I could say walking from on to the other probably take a minute or so. So I enter one of the Stores (Let's call is Store A) and ask the gentleman at the entrance to meet a Genius to get my Apple Watch band inspected. The coating was wearing off and I was very well aware that this IS something covered under warranty. The advisor asks me what the problem is with the band and I explain. After doing so he whispers to his partner right next to him and they tell me to just go buy another band since getting it inspected isn't worth it. This was absolutely ridiculous, to buy a new band for $50 that is covered under warranty? Hell no. I told them I would come later and left the store. I go to store B and ask the advisor the same thing, and he politely asked me my name and wanted to see the problem. I show him and he gives me a appointment with a 10 minute wait. This was amazing! I waited 3 minutes and got a text message and straight went to a genius. And here's what happened:

    1. The genius came and politely said hello
    2. He asked to see the Watch band and went onto his iPad to see if this is covered.
    3. He told me that this was covered and quickly got a replacement for me

And that's it folks, just like that I got my Apple Watch band replaced in Store B. I was amazed to see what a difference the stores made. If you know that you should be covered under warranty and the store is not treating you like they should I really recommend you guys to try other Apple Stores. If this isn't an option you of course got mail - in.

I just wanted to share my experience with you guys to let you know! I appreciate you guys reading through all of this!

If you guys want to share your own experience in the comment section you're more than welcome to! I'll read all of them!

TL&DR: I went to two Apple store to get my band replaced, Store A told me to buy a new band and didn't care. I went to another store (Store B) and they took care of me pretty quickly and politely.

If you didn’t have a MBP, what laptop would you use?

    Posted: 05 May 2018 06:36 AM PDT

With the ever increasing costs of MacBook Pros, and extended upgrade times between devices (and terrible keyboards but I didn't think I'd open that can of worms lol), if you didn't have/use a MBP, what type of computer or device would you use?

How can I backup iPhone data (apps included) on iTunes 12.7

    Posted: 06 May 2018 02:20 AM PDT

This morning I accidentally shatterd my screen on my iPhone 5, I'm going to apple support tomorrow and try to fix it. But before that, I want to make a backup in case they can't fix the screen and have to replace it. So I started iTunes and I try to make a backup and I see no Apps-Tab. After a little research I found out that backing up your apps got removed after 12.6 and I really wan't to back up my apps!!

Can someone please help me here to find out a way how to backup my apps on 12.7 or find a way to do it differently or how I can go back to 12.6? I beg everyone here to help me please!!

    VPN for iPhone 6s

I work in a school with a strong censorship for web browsing and even some apps, including reddit!. Could a VPN work so I can use all my apps as well as search on google? I understand the need for students, but I am a adult.

Getting an iPhone 6S and bringing it to another country

    Posted: 05 May 2018 12:21 PM PDT

Hello guys. We will go to Turkey soon, and i want to bring a gift for my uncle, an iPhone 6S. Its time to upgrade from his old Nokia.

My question. If i get a simlock free, iCloud free, whatever free iPhone 6S in the Netherlands, can i bring it to Turkey and give it to my uncle without any problems?

Some guy here told me that it can only be used for 2 weeks and then its blocked, which scares me. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

Is it possible for an internal airport card to cause a iMac to shut off when being used or in sleep mode?

    Posted: 05 May 2018 08:31 PM PDT

The reason i ask this is because I have a mid 2015 iMac 5K intel i5 that keeps turning off whenever I'm using it or just have it on sleep mode and when I took it to the Apple Store I was told that it could possibly be the airport that's causing it shut down, long story short I had this problem going on for the last nine months and tried every which way to fix it and nothing has worked,so it could be either a faulty inter power supply or a faulty airport card that's causing the problem, does this sound right?

Hi, my old iPhone has an extremely weak battery. It displays the charging signal and the Apple logo and then cuts to black. The phone itself is still in as light is still being emitted. How can I check if the phone is locked to a service provider if it doesn’t turn on?

So I recently went to the Apple Store and they might've found out why iMac is shutting off unexpectedly?

    Posted: 05 May 2018 11:14 AM PDT

So for the last nine months I've been having issues with my 5K iMac mid 2015 shutting off randomly whether while I'm using it or having in sleep mode and went to the Apple Store for em to check it out and attempt replicate the issue on site and the last 3 visits they have failed to replicate it onsite and while it was at the store repairs which the first time they replaced the logic board and the screen, then on the second visit they decided to reset everything and give it a fresh install then update with the latest version of MacOS.so on my latest visit which was yesterday they finally were able to witness it turning off unexpectedly while on and the guy helping tested it by opening many programs including a networking monitoring tool and a program testing the vector graphics also several other programs running in the background.the worker told me it seems to be a problem with the airport card built in that's causing the problem and a possible culprit causing to shut down because of the card eventually stressing out and reaching a threshold resorting to intermittent shutdown.and if it's indeed the airport card they replace the part since I was told they have it on hand at the store i visited,so let's see what they tell me when call me to pick it up

Macbook came back from servicing with 2 small issues

    Posted: 05 May 2018 02:23 PM PDT

My Macbook Pro 15" Retina went in for a service to fix a fan issue at the end of 2017.
It came back with one of the rubber feet not really attached (I think they got the adhesive dirty) and the lid now makes a really annoying creaking/cracking noise when opening and closing. Maybe they didn't put the right torque on the screws?
Anyways, can Apple fix these two problems? I know they are minor problems but it's kind of an annoyance because the rubber foot won't stick at all now.
    Thanks!

iPhone gets hot & bright for on screen

    Posted: 05 May 2018 06:37 PM PDT

So I just put a new screen on the 5c I've had since December and wouldn't ya know it the damn thing gets kinda hot near the top in the back. What could be causing this?

Also, there's like a bright spot underneath the screen too, like someone is shining a bright light there. What could be causing that? I hope I don't have to replace something else (although the speaker sounds odd; loud, but kinda muffled. May see about a new one). This is my second screen so I know it isn't that bc the light thing was there on the last one. I already said I was gonna replace the battery. I'll include a link to the bright spot in the comments.

Self-Promotion Saturday - I made my first app while traveling through Asia, it’s called Travel Buddies and helps you find and share travel tips!

    Posted: 05 May 2018 02:43 PM PDT

So a few months ago while I was backpacking through Vietnam I ran into a problem. At every hostel I met people who were overflowing with tips and recommendations for other cities and countries. This would constantly result in us opening Google Maps and adding pins and saving places. I thought this could be improved, which is why I made Travel Buddies!

The app is built around a global map, which shows the tips all other users. By following your new travel buddies, you can also get a customised map with just their tips. The quick-filter makes it easy to find just the type of place you're looking for.

Over the last few months more than 500 other travellers have been helping me test this, so we're already filling up South East Asia quite nicely!

Video Here's a short video that showcases the app on YouTube

Download You can download the app from the App Store here

Feedback I would love to get some feedback from people other than backpackers, because it's hard for me to understand the value outside of the travel bubble we are in while traveling from hostel to hostel. I'm about to get on the night bus across Malaysia, so I might respond a bit late depending on the reception

Technical Info I built the backend using Google Firebase, which allowed me to very quickly set up Authentication, File storage, Database structure and Push Notifications. I highly recommend any (iOS) developer to have a look at how useful the Firebase platform is right now)
