Best website to buy a new battery for a mid 2010 15" MacBook Pro?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2018 04:13 PM PDT

    Hello,

I'm looking for suggestions on where to buy a new battery for a mid 2010 15" MacBook pro. I found this one on ifixit.com, but I'm not sure if there's a better alternative.

I've been debating getting a newer MacBook Pro, but I've upgraded the RAM and replaced the HD with an SSD and it still works really well. The only issues I have are the battery (says replace soon) and the speakers. The speakers sound blown and I have no idea how it could have happened honestly, but I don't mind using a Bluetooth speaker anyway. The battery is what I really want to replace.

    Thanks.

Macbook 5,1 Second HDD Heat Concerns

    Posted: 05 Apr 2018 11:26 AM PDT

    Hello All,

I have an older Macbook 5,1 A1278 (EMC 2254), the Late 08/Early 09 model. Honestly it's an amazing machine, I bought it used after my Pro died. In the past 5 years I have owned it this little beast has taken every test I throw at it and passed with flying colors. Recently a local hardware store was selling a 120GB SSD for about $30, $40 for a 10 year replacement plan. I bought one to test out on an older PC in the house (on it's way out the door). The SSD was AMAZING! So of course my brain begins to ponder, what if... Well a few days later my Macbook has a new hard drive and this thing is like brand new. Now Problem. I have 400GB of data and now a 120GB SSD. My solution was to install a caddy in place of the optical drive and mount my old HDD (1TB 7.2K) in there as a data drive. After all is said and done I have two drives in there and it runs nicely and smoothly.

My concern, can the fan keep up with this? My Mac's (Desktops and Notebooks) have always run warm/hot, I was once told the notebooks were designed for desks not laps. Is the data drive going to cause a heat issue in the Macbook? Anyone with experience or knowledge who can help educate me on this topic?

    Thank you in advance,

    New MacBook Pro Cracked Screen...advice?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2018 01:25 AM PDT

Hi everyone. This just happened moments ago, and I'm absolutely devastated.

On Jan 25th, I was gifted a new MacBook Pro 13in for college graduation. I absolutely love it and use it for everything, every day. This also includes Netflix before bed. Unfortunately, tonight as I was watching Netflix, I knocked the MacBook off my bed (about a 3.5ish foot drop). My screen is now completely shot, all black with a few cracks of light. I don't have AppleCare and it's too late to buy it, but the computer is obviously still very much under warranty.

Is this covered by the limited warranty? If not, is there any way I can spin it so it'll get fixed for free/minimal cost at an Apple Store? Am I completely and utterly fucked?
