| All my messages just vanished (iPhone SE, iOS 11.3) Posted: 13 Apr 2018 02:47 PM PDT I had to reboot my phone today and after entering my passcode and opening the Messages app, all my messages had disappeared. I've tried everything: another reboot, logging out from and back in to iCloud, disabling and re-enabling iMessage and even a complete wipe followed by a restore from an iCloud backup. Nothing helped. It's not a space issue (64GB storage, not even 50% used) and I've set all my messages to be stored indefinitely. I did some googling and found a couple of Reddit posts with similar issues, but generally this seems to be an obscure problem. There were also a lot of links to 3rd party "phone rescue" software and I even tried using two of them, even though I normally find that kind of stuff a bit sketchy. The first one could not recognize my phone plugged to my PC so I left it at that. The other one could scan my iCloud backups (naturally I changed my Apple ID password after this) but couldn't find the messages so I'm assuming that whatever happened possibly happened before my latest backup yesterday, since I haven't really been doing any messaging today. Some Reddit users and most of the phone rescue sites suspected that this could be some kind of a database problem and that my messages are still stored on the phone, just not showing up. Is there any way for me to fix this? There's nothing really important in there that I need to access, but this is clearly something that's not supposed to happen. I've been an iPhone user for almost ten years but ever since iOS 11 came out I've had to do three wipes/restores because of various reasons. Either the OS has become REALLY buggy, unstable and erratic or it's a hardware problem. I decided not to contact Apple Support right away since I've already tried everything they'll probably advise me to do. I'd appreciate any help and any general knowledge of this issue. Thank you. I've gone into disk utility and selected "Image from Macintosh HD". The size matches about what my hard drive was, but I I'm trepidatious about wiping out my hard drive and restoring. | Posted: 13 Apr 2018 06:12 PM PDT I just bought the Samsung CF391. I have a MacBook Pro 2015, and it's connected via HDMI - HDMI. I tried all font smoothing settings by using Appearance->General, and then I tried the terminal commands. When I used a ruby script to force the monitor into RGB mode (link), it worked a lot better. But the text on screen is still very jagged, particularly the MacOs Menu bar. I can see the pixels in every letter 'e', for instance, so it shows up as a jagged collection of pixels rather than as a letter. Is it possible MacOS just can't handle a new monitor, no matter what settings I try? Thanks all! [link] [comments]  |

My keyboard and trackpad randomly disconnect for a few seconds every ten minutes or so, and then reconnect a few moments later. I've uninstalled (instructed bluetooth to forget) and re synced them numerous times without any luck. | iCloud Photo Library syncing issue might have messed my library up completely Posted: 13 Apr 2018 05:27 PM PDT I've had iCloud issues on my MBP before with contacts, but photos always transferred perfectly. Well, I had a folder of home videos that I needed to adjust the date on (about 150 or so). I had about 70 of the 150 left to do, when I noticed everything was not syncing. Low and behold, my Photos on the MBP was acting up and said "last updated __ hours ago" or something. I tried everything from leaving it overnight to trying to upload a pic to "refresh" it and nothing worked. So I thought about unchecking iCPL and rechecking it. This way it'll re-upload for a day or so but I won't lose my progress with the date fixing. Well, I left my laptop reuploading all day but I am noticing that my photo library in iCloud is getting bloated. It has 18,000 of the 20,000 left but it is already at a significantly bigger size and my iPhone is telling me there is not enough space to download all originals (even though before it was fine and I deleted all my music?). I had to buy more iCloud storage and I am thinking of just deleting all pics on my MBP and downloading everything from iCloud instead of "re-uploading" since it's slow and is bloating my library, but not sure if that will affect things in the middle. What do I do and how do I get rid of the bloating - let it finish uploading or deleting and downloading? Is there any way to keep my progress on the dates? Also, should I delete everything in iCloud and reupload since my local photo library is significantly smaller? [link] [comments]  |

It started like few months ago and started to progress, I just ignored it. Now, the glitch is starting to bother me. The glitch happens appears less than a second and disappears and reappears when I click on the next video. I have a macbook pro 2016 (non-touch bar) 13"2 GHz Intel Core i5, 512gb ssd, 16 gb ram, High Sierra 10.13.4 and Intel Iris Graphics 540 1536 MB. | Orange Discoloration on 2016 MBP Posted: 13 Apr 2018 02:49 PM PDT Hello All, I have a Late 16 MBP 15" that is just outside of warranty (of course), and over the last few weeks has developed this awful orange discoloration around the edge of the screen. I'm really trying to avoid paying apple $750 to get a new display on a $2100 laptop I bought barely a year ago, but it seems inevitable... What im trying to figure out is what caused it so I can avoid shelling new iPhone money out every year for a new display. I take care of my laptop, however it is in a backpack all day(university). | MBP updated to 10.13.4 and now there's an issue every time i close my laptop's lid... Posted: 13 Apr 2018 07:29 PM PDT I have . MBP 2.6ghz i7 Mid 2012 which I've just upgraded to Sierra 10.13.4. Almost immediately after updating I began experiencing display issues. Every time I close the laptop lid and reopen it, the keyboard will light up but the display remains blank. I have to hold down the power button to a full shutdown and then turn it back on to fix this issue. Other times I will close the lid but the apple logo remains backlit, then when I open the lid, the display remains as it was previously. Ie: I dont have to re-login as the laptop never went to sleep. The laptop will also get hot as it's still running during this time. Another issue that I've only experienced once was that the laptop screen displayed a weird glitchy display like this, but it quickly restored itself like normal. Posted: 13 Apr 2018 12:30 PM PDT I just bought a 2017 MacBook Pro, and at work I use a 2011 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display so I need that connectivity. At home, I use an LG 4k display so I need the mini-displayport. And of course I need some USB. I've tried to find a do-it-all solution, but all I've come up with is that I need to buy all 3 of these items– am I right? Or is there something easier?

| Can't get iPhone 8 Plus into DFU mode Posted: 13 Apr 2018 10:50 AM PDT I had a customer walk in wanting to have his iPhone 8 Plus factory reset. However, I cannot, after reading multiple instructions (all of them being the same), get it into DFU mode. When the phone is off, I press the side button for 3 seconds. I then press the volume down button, while holding the side button at the same time. The instructions are to hold both buttons for 10 seconds but after holding both buttons for about 1 to 2 seconds, the Apple logo pops up. When it does load, I'm in a "Press home to recover" screen. It asks me to enter a PIN, then verify it, then it goes to a "Attempting data recovery" screen. Once that is done, I get a black screen with text saying "iPhone disabled for 1 minute". After that minute, I'm back at the "Press home to recover" screen. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]  |
| Why can't I save PDFs to my iCloud Drive in Pages? (Pages 7.0 on MacBook) Posted: 13 Apr 2018 01:54 PM PDT I like keeping .PDF files and .pages files together in my iCloud Drive. Roughly 20% of the time, I can export .PDF copies of my .pages files in the same subfolder underneath Pages in iCloud Drive. The other 80% of the time, Pages will not allow an export to the Pages folder in iCloud Drive. The "Export" button will be grayed out and I cannot save to iCloud Drive. I have exported .PDF files to iCloud Drive > Pages > subfolders before, so I know it's possible. My issue is that it's inconsistent when I can save to those subfolders and when I cannot. Does anyone know what's happening here? To clarify, I can export a .PDF to the root folder of my iCloud Drive consistently, but I can only export a .PDF to the Pages subfolder 20% of the time. imgur link to picture problem In the sidebar, I have the Pages folder of my iCloud Drive selected. As you can see, the Export button is grayed out. It is not grayed out if I choose to save to Desktop or even the root folder of my iCloud Drive. Wiped and reset the old one but for some reason my partner reinstalled OS so connected to the WiFi during set-up and made an account in her name again. Received new Mac today, different serial number so definitely new. Turned it on and it had an account already on (my partners name) so I guess they migrated across to be sure nothing was left. The new laptop instantly connected to our home WiFi. Just a little confused as thought even if it did have that information it wouldn't naturally default back to our WiFi. Does it include all defaults as well as keychain passwords when migrating this kind of stuff? Bit of a mundane question but just quite surprised but it! [link] [comments]  |

I took the old mac monitor from my previous setup and connected it to the all-in-one. It's connected via a wire that has a macbook charger, usb, and mac display cable in one housing. My main issue is that the 2nd monitor's brightness doesn't adjust with the first. I go to display settings, and the brightness slider isn't available for the 2nd monitor. Please help. | Videos/screensaver transparent on Late 2012 iMac High Sierra Posted: 13 Apr 2018 12:22 PM PDT Hello all, This has been acting up recently, but I notice that many of my videos are partially transparent, allowing me to see items in the background through the video window. This also happens through the Apple live screensavers when the screensaver is running. I have made sure that the transparency settings are turned off, yet am still running into this problem.
