Posted: 30 Mar 2018 10:17 AM PDT Just updated to 10.13.4 only to find out that CUDA acceleration won't work on the current nvidia web driver. Luckily I have another machine that I can edit on in the mean time, but just thought I'd let people know if they only have one machine that they rely on to get their work done. [link] [comments]
Will Find My Mac work when Mac is reinstalled before being connected to the internet again? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 11:52 PM PDT Does it depend on a Mac's serial number or just the local account settings? Aka is there any way somebody could steal my Mac and get away with it when I lock my Mac? MacOs 10.13.4 update stuck in a loop Posted: 31 Mar 2018 02:18 AM PDT Hey guys, my GF has a 15" MacBook Pro Retina (2013). Yesterday she tried to update from 10.13.3 to 10.13.4 but it's unable to complete the update, basically upon rebooting and after logging in this appears: https://imgur.com/w0icxZY and it gets stuck at that exact point, then this pops up: https://imgur.com/hF8jSTw. If we hit restart the same happens over and over again. Booting into safe mode works and doesn't install the update, but again rebooting not into safe mode produces the same error. At the moment, I don't have physical access to it, but I will in the afternoon, in the mean time I've downloaded from my mac a copy of High Sierra, ready to be installed from scratch. We do have a backup of the data, so there's that at least, but maybe it can be fixed without a clean install. I'll add the she never did a clean update, maybe that's the issue. What do you guys think? [link] [comments]

MacBook Pro 15" mid-2010 updated to 10.13.4, very problematic Posted: 30 Mar 2018 07:49 PM PDT My MacBook Pro 15" mid-2010 (8GB RAM) has two drives, an SSD in the primary drive mount and I put a regular spinning HD in the optical bay via a sled. I decided to do the 10.13.4 update on this secondary HD in the optical bay as a test before deploying on the primary which is my SSD. I know my MBP was slow before running 10.13.3 on the HD but now it's absolutely ridiculous. Apps won't launch most of the time, dragging icons between windows don't work, even though I created a video file on the HD it doesn't show-up in the Finder. If I use an app that accesses the Finder (like to open a file) I can see the file but in the normal Finder the folder is empty, no file. Can't even send thing to the trash or empty the trash. I've run Disk Utility/First Aid several times from both the HD boot-up and also ran it via Recovery start-up option (CMD-R). The First Aid finishes fine but things are still problematic with the same issues. Zapped PRAM several times, still problematic. I don't see myself upgrading the SSD to 10.13.4 if it's going to be as problematic as the install on the HD. Anyone have success with the 15" mid-2010 MBP? [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 12:06 AM PDT 10.13.4 fixes Cmd+?, finally! On previous 10.13.4, I had to press the combo twice. It is one of features I miss most when I work on a different OS. [link] [comments]
2010 Macbook Pro plays weird little tune Posted: 30 Mar 2018 05:38 PM PDT So a little while ago, my Macbook Pro was sitting, lid closed and presumably asleep, standing on its edge leaning against the leg of my desk. It played a weird little tinny tune, like from a 1980s handheld electronic game. It was brief, under 10 seconds. I opened it up. Nothing was obviously running that would do such a thing. I checked Console.app and didn't find anything. While I was combing through logs in Console, it did it again. The sound was coming from the left side of the computer, presumably the left speaker. Again, no evident cause in Console. Has anyone had this happen? I upgraded to 10.13.4 a couple hours earlier, but I don't know if that had anything to do with it. [link] [comments]
Read/Write NTFS on macOS 10.13.4? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 06:52 AM PDT So my problem is that I need read/write support on macOS. I've tried NTFS-3G and other software to no avail. The only one that actually worked was iBoySoft Drive Manager; it's easy to use and works, it gives me r/w on NTFS external drives (and also BootCamp partition) They make you pay after a 7 day trial. So I was wondering if anyone has a good, free solution for me that will allow me to get r/w on NTFS on my iMac. I'm happy to try any suggestions. [link] [comments]
10.13.4 Update adds eGPU support. Has anyone tested this? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 10:58 AM PDT Hey all, new the sub and to the wonderful world of Mac. I noticed in the latest update from today eGPU support is added. Has anyone tested this? If it's good I might ditch my windows desktop and put my GTX 1070 in a Razer Core and use it as a Thunderbolt dock with my G-Sync monitor. It would be nice to work and game through only one machine and not have to worry about the eGPU messing up when I'm not in bootcamp Windows. [link] [comments]

High Sierra safe to upgrade to? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 04:38 PM PDT Hey y'all! Is high Sierra good enough now that I won't need to fear any bugs with upgrading? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Any fully-functional AND encrypted notes apps for Mac? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 06:49 AM PDT I would like to use a notes app with an emphasis on security, with encrypted notes at rest, and a password (or keychain) to open and unlock them. That's my main priority. The more features the app has, such as pictures, attachments, tables, drawing, etc, the better. I would like something as close as possible to OneNote (which doesn't support local-only notes on Mac.) I was looking at Bear, but it only talks about encryption when syncing, not at rest. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
Mac Mini 2012 display is pink (at bootup and in MacOS), but Bootcamp display is fine. Posted: 30 Mar 2018 08:41 AM PDT Hello, I hope this is the right place for this. If not, let me know and I will re-post. I have a Mac Mini 2012 with HDMI and Mini Display Port. I have tried my Viewsonic display in both, and the same issue. It started out very infrequently, and now it is constant. When i turn on my Mac, the display is pink-hue. I have tried resetting PRAM, SMC, etc. I have also tried mini-display to DVI and multiple HDMI cables. Nothing has helped. I finally decided to boot to my Bootcamp image (Windows 10) and upon first start, the display is pink (not black), but once Windows starts to load, the colors are fine. This seems to me to be something in the firmware loading graphics drivers for MacOS, but I am hoping someone here could help me out. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
After 10.13.4 release, Mac App Store now says I can install High Sierra on my Mid-2009 MBP Posted: 30 Mar 2018 06:42 AM PDT Anyone else seeing this? I'm still running El Capitan because the machine is supposedly not capable of running Sierra or High Sierra, but maybe that's changed? My upgrade plan was to get another one once Apple drops official support for El Capitan. Admittedly, the machine is old, but it still runs like a champ, and if I can eke another year or two of life out of it I will. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Mar 2018 10:12 AM PDT I recently purchased a 2018 15'' MBP. For whatever reason, messages sync very sporadically between my iPhone and Macbook, if at all. Sometimes, only certain messages from a conversation are missing. Other times, entire conversations are missing. (To be clear: my MBP is having the messaging issues, not the iPhone). This is all happening to conversations that have happened after setting up the Macbook. I'm aware it doesn't sync conversations that happened prior to getting it. I have tried everything. I've quadruple checked my continuity settings. My Apple ID is the same on every device I own. "Reachable at" information is all the same. I've done everything. So much so that I decided to format the entire computer and restore it to factory settings and set it up as new. Again. That was 3 days ago. I set everything up and it appeared to be working fine. After a day or two, all of my messages and conversations were syncing perfectly. I thought it was fixed. However, last night, I opened up my Macbook after having been away from it for the entire day. Throughout the day, I had a total of 6 iMessage conversations. When I opened my Macbook, only one conversation loaded. And from that conversation, only half of it loaded. What the fuck is going on? All of my settings have to be correct because it was working flawlessly before last night. I have a 2013 MBP that has never had this problem so I refuse to accept the idea that "messages just don't sync well on Macbook". I know it might seem like a small issue to some people, but it aggravates me to no end. I just dropped $3 grand on a laptop that can't load messages. That's bullshit. Please help. spotlight won't open specific apple note Posted: 30 Mar 2018 08:28 AM PDT When I spotlight a note from the apple notes app it shows up and even has a full preview of that specific note. However when I hit enter it only opens the notes app and doesn't open that specific note. Is this simply not a feature? I was wondering if it could simply be a bug on my system. Macbook is auto color correcting my photos. HELP!?! Posted: 30 Mar 2018 06:38 AM PDT So I took a bunch of pictures yesterday. I imported them onto my computer. I was shooting on a flat profile so the pictures are very washed out and need to be color corrected. Every time I open one of the files, the preview changes the color of them. Don't know if a setting is somewhere that is doing this by default but I really need it to stop. Any help would be awesome! [link] [comments] |
