My MBP2015 feels sluggish. Geekbench score halved. Posted: 25 Feb 2018 10:04 PM PST My MBP is an 11.5 model Intel Core i7-4980HQ @ 2.8 GHz with standard 16GB/6MB/256KB RAM and cache configuration. It felt sprightly enough when I first got it, but lately it feels sluggish with laggy response and things like video rendering tasks taking much longer than they used to. I ran a geekbench test on it and got a single-core score of 2290, 5757 multi-core. Compared against the Geekbench charts that score seems very low. The same specification (15-inch Retina mid 2015) is listed with single and multi core scores of 4366 / 14499, which is 1.9 and 2.52 times higher than my actual scores. I don't know if they are approximately linear proportional to actual performance, but it seems consistent with my gut feeling that my Mac feels "sluggish". So what is going on? Any ideas? Is my mac somehow throttled down to an absurdly low level? Some more info - my mac is meticulously kept clean. It is used in a dust and smoke and cat-hair-free environment, and I blow with compressed air the air vents every couple of months. Thanks in advance for any clues. [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Feb 2018 10:53 PM PST Hi there, I am a student learning coding and 3D modeling and make youtube videos and have never bought an apple product. So I am thinking to buy a MBP but I saw MacBooks only come with LPDDR3 RAMS while all windows laptops come with DDR4 RAM.So does that affect the performance. Also I will use Adobe After Effects [link] [comments]
Bought a 2017 MacBook Refurbished — 3 battery cycles and 81% battery health? Won’t charge. Posted: 25 Feb 2018 11:05 AM PST Did I get a dud? I scoured reddit beforehand and it sounded like refurb units are tested and like new but ~$200 or so less, so I got the Gold 2017 version. Absolutely love it, it's perfect for my needs and I don't mind the one port. But out of the box it won't charge beyond 88% battery, and now plugged in it stays at 70%, coconut battery says the battery is good and no issues there, but 3 cycles and 81% health sounds crazy. Anyone experience this before? I'm gonna go to the nearest Genius Bar but it's an hour away, and I need to catch up on schoolwork so I was wondering if they'd replace a battery there or have to ship it out, or even if they carry the same refurb model? I've only had it for 3 days... EDIT: Just walked out of the Genius Bar. The battery is indeed dying, 82%, and they told me they couldn't do anything since it's refurbished and my only option is to return it and buy another one. I left work early and drove an hour and a half both ways to confirm I got a dud. Kinda disappointing for my first Mac and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Feb 2018 09:49 PM PST Can anyone tell me the numbers I should be looking up in order to make sure I'm looking at Macbook Pros from 2015? Whenever I google search "Macbook Pro 2015," results from all sorts of years pop up. Having a model number I could search in order to find 2015 Macbook Pros with the Retina display would be great. Right now I have an Air, but its screen is just getting old at this point (having an iPhone X isn't helping, lol). Also, are there any recommendations on where to find some deals? Around what price would it be reasonable to purchase a 2015 model? Thanks guys! [link] [comments]
Macbook skips password authentication after sleeping? Posted: 25 Feb 2018 06:10 PM PST Two times this week I've flipped the lid on my macbook after sleeping overnight and it didn't ask me for my password. I also noticed that both times this happened, I pressed the power button to turn it on before any prompts appeared on the screen. Is this normal or is there something wrong? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Feb 2018 04:37 PM PST I need to buy a USB, to transfer photos, music, and videos off my MacBook Air. I have seen people talk about a USB C Hub, I looked it up and saw that its a hub with ports, but I don't really need that. I need a USB I already have a port on the MacBook Air. Does anybody have suggestions if I should buy the HUB and USB? I'd rather not, Any suggestions on a USB with 128GB? [link] [comments]

Itunes starts skipping after about 30 minutes. Posted: 25 Feb 2018 10:44 AM PST Recently I switched back to apple music from spotify and have been using itunes to listen to music on my 2017 mbp tb and after about 30 minutes the music starts sounding like it would when a cd has scratches on it. It wont stop unless I close the app completely and relaunch it. Any ideas? Im running the latest version of itunes and high sierra. [link] [comments]

Are there any TB3 gigabit nics? Posted: 25 Feb 2018 12:40 AM PST Planning my dongle load out, looking for a legit TB3 network adapter. I see a few options but they don't specify thunderbolt, so I suspect they're just USB adapters on the inside like the belkin one they sell in the apple store. The reason I want thunderbolt is that in the past, comparing USB3 nics with thunderbolt nics the thunderbolt nics performed and behaved better. Judging by the belkin reviews on the one apple has been selling, the situation has not improved. [link] [comments] |
