Disk Utility - Verify Disk Help

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 07:20 PM PST

Big newbie here with Macbook Pro.

I have an external hard-drive that I ran Disk Utility - Verify Disk on. In the details it gave me three phases (Preparing Fat, Checking Directories, and Checking for Orphan Clusters) and then listed the number of files, free space, and clusters. This is all the info it gave.

Do I need to "repair disk" or what?

    OS X partition not booting

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 06:34 PM PST

Older Macbook, Windows and Recovery partitions are fine, can even access the OS X partition in Windows Getting disk0s2: I/O Error, disk0s2: I/O failed, error = 5 in verbose mode. No problems found with disc utility. Any suggestions that don't include a reformat?

Computer won't boot. Internet recovery mode gives me a gray circle with a slash through it...

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 06:23 PM PST

2013 rMBP 15". Worked fine until I tried booting today. Reset all the things and just tried internet recovery mode. But when I do so, it gives me a gray screen with a slashed circle.

Is my computer toast? Any way I can get disk utility to run in standard mode? I cant get past a blank black screen no matter what I've tried. Getting the internet recovery mode running is the only way I've been able to get ANYTHING on the screen..

    Thanks guys

Edit: Tried booting into single user mode or recovery mode with the disk. When I select either, I get horizontal solid and dotted white lines and the computer freezes. I guess it's my GPU failing...

Ipad 4 won’t turn on anymore

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 04:09 PM PST

I have an old ipad 4 from ebay that i stopped using a while ago.

Problem = It took a long time to charge, gradually changed into it not charging and now the ipad won't even turn on and it gives some screen flash when i try( see the video)

I took it to apple UK for repair but they told me that it was from America so they won't look at it.

Should i try getting the battery changed from a third party store?

Changing Apple ID to iCloud Email Error

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 06:14 PM PST

I am having an issue where I am not being allowed to change my Apple ID email address from my Gmail address to my iCloud email address. Apparently this wasn't allowed for the longest time but now I should be able to according to this article:

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/9to5mac.com/2017/10/31/change-apple-id-from-gmail-to-icloud/amp/

When I follow the steps detailed in the article my iPad Pro gives the error "Could Not Update Email. Your Apple ID cannot end in @icloud.com. Choose a different email address."

My iPad Pro is up to date with iOS 11.2.5

I also checked my Apple account details online and I verified I am only signed into my iPad with my Apple ID

    Any ideas?

    Wired Mouse/Keyboard Disconnect

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 09:52 PM PST

    Machine Specs

    • iMac 2012
    • MacOS 10.12

    Problem

Every now and then my keyboard or mouse appears to have input problems.

    • Mouse Movement Detected but clicks are not
    • Keyboard lighting is on but keystrokes are not detected on my computer.

The only fix appears to be plugging it in and out which solves the issue temporarily.

Most of the complaints about similar issues are for wireless devices having interference but my peripherals are wired so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas.

    Replace Macbook Pro Wifi Hardware?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 09:38 PM PST

    Does that even exist?

Two weeks ago I came home from a trip to discover that my 2012 MBP (10.9.5) could hardly connect to the web without being directly next to the router. Since then, I've connected to many different WiFi's in different locations only to find the connection to still be extremely weak. If I load too much information at once (like, more than 1mb), I get physically kicked off and have to reconnect. Further, nothing about the location of my computer or router have changed.

I'm fairly computer savvy and tried all go-to solutions available. I.E., forgetting the network and signing in again, SMC/PRAM resets, change DNS servers, renewing DHCP lease, connecting to router through a WiFi booster, OS updates, etc. Is it possible some kind of WiFi hardware/antennae in the Macbook is going out?

Something peculiar however that happens when I use the Network Assistant to diagnose my issue is that whenever I select my network, I receive a popup saying that Network Diagnostics wants to access key "WIFI NAME" in your keychain. I repeatedly choose "Always Allow" but have to continue to grant permission every time I use the Network Diagnostics to get me back online. Could that have anything to do with it? I have not changed any system passwords anytime recently.

I hope someone can help, I've never had this issue before! Thank you!

My girlfriend’s new iPhone X consistently recognizes both our faces, as long as I wear glasses.

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 09:26 PM PST

So we buy this thing yesterday and my gf scans her face as a reference face, but then I do much of the setting up, each time putting in the passcode to open the phone.

Now the phone opens if shes in front of it or I'm front of it as long as I'm wearing glasses. I suspect the phone automatically is more forgiving of faces with glasses and that there may also have been some machine learning going on with all those times I entered the passcode with my face in front of it.

Problem filling out forms in Preview

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 12:41 PM PST

In my job I need to fill out a LOT of forms provided to me in PDF format. Apple's Preview app is REALLY good at making it easy for me to fill out the forms quickly and easily, and saving the results, so I can send back the same form to the vendor.

For some reason, the last two weeks have seen a change in Preview's behavior.

It recognizes when I click on a field in the PDF form, but I can't type anything into the field. Typing on the keyboard does nothing.

If I copy a text string from outside of Preview (a word doc, or the name of a folder on my desktop), click on a field in the form, and Paste, the text appears properly. But all keys on the keyboard are non-responsive... tab, return, space, any character.

This is ONLY in Preview, and has only started happening recently. And it is really jammin' my mojo, man!

I hate Acrobat. But I will open it if I have to.

Final note: If I open the Tools in Preview, and insert a text box, I can type into that just fine. It is ONLY when I click on the field, get the text insertion point, and try to type, that Preview has stopped working properly.

    Help? I'm flummoxed.

My Apple Music only plays when I’m in airplane mode, please help

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 09:18 PM PST

I just got off a plane and found that songs downloaded through Apple Music will only play on my phone when I'm in Airplane Mode. My purchased songs are just fine. But even if I start a song in Airplane mode, the moment I turn it off, the song will automatically stop, occasionally just reading "Not Playing" in place of a song title

Edit: not just in Airplane Mode, if I turn of WiFi and cellular, it works. Connecting to internet seems to kill any attempts to play music on my phone

How likely is it a problem with the logic board?

Hello, if my keyboard and trackpad are unresponsive, how likely is it a logic board issue? The macbook works fine if another keyboard is plugged in. Thank you!

    2015 rMBP 15” anti-reflective coating going bad

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 08:30 PM PST

I work at a particular retail giant, somewhere along the lines of 'Buy more' and we took off a MacBook Pro off of the apple display. This 2015/16 MacBook Pro 15" I can get for a HUGE discount. I'll have a proof of purchase and heard that apple would cover this problem till end of 2017 or 3 years from proof of purchase whichever one is longer. Since my proof of purchase would be this month, would apple still cover it? Just wondering if anyone would know!

Transfer my music from iPhone 7 to iPhone 8

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 12:17 PM PST

When i moved my music to my iPhone 7, I had removed it from my pc.

Got the new iPhone 8 Plus. Fully backed up my old phone on a new pc and did a transfer to the new phone.

Everything got moved to the new phone except my music. I have tried downloading the songs back into iTunes but its not working. Apparently its a one way thing only.

Can anyone suggest how I can move the songs off my old phone and into the new. Theres more than 8000 songs.

    Thanks.

Late 2017 15’ MBP wont sleep!

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 11:59 AM PST

Hi guys, my pretty much brand new MBP won't sleep! I've even gone ahead and eased the HD & done a fresh install and still nothing! It was sleeping fine until a few weeks ago! Done everything, reset SMC & PRAM and all that stuff, checked all settings checked the activity finder and even after a fresh install, I shut the lid, leave for a few hours and the MBP is warm and buttery discharged by a noticeable amount! Any ideas? I ideally don't want to have to lose my Mac for a week while it's looked at but if I do I do! So annoying!

MBP 2017 High Sierra 10.13.3 crashing

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 07:58 AM PST

My MBP has been experiencing crashes weekly. I'm great with troubleshooting within a Windows environment but OSX, not so much. That being said I get a Kernel Panic when this crash happens (always while the MBP is asleep). An output of the latest kernel panic is below. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Homepod Airplay Issues

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 10:39 AM PST

I am having trouble connecting to my new homepod with airplay. I have bluetooth and wifi on my iPhone 8. I tried restarting my phone and it worked for a couple minutes, and then it just stopped airplaying. Is anyone else having troubles connecting to their Homepod with Airplay? edit: Problem Solved! My iPhone and Homepod were on different wifi networks so I factory reset it so they were on the same network.

Need help re-installing OS (failed to verify installesd.dmg verify failed)

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 12:44 PM PST

I have a 2012 MBP and recently the harddrive quit on me. I ordered a new harddrive and replaced it (luckily had backed up my stuff a week before) and I have a USB with OS X 10.9 on it. I have tried to install the operating system and have gotten to the point where it says it's installing OS X but when I check on the log it reads "failed to verify installesd.dmg" along with "Damaged resume data :/Volumes/Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB Media/Mac OS X Install Data/InstallESD.dmg.partial : /Volumes/Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB Media/Mac OS X Install Data/InstallESD.chunklist.partial"

I would love some feedback about what the best course of action would be as I am having a tough time figuring this out.

Editing Apple Calendar entries from Google Calendar

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 12:00 PM PST

Ever since getting an Apple watch I've gotten more immersed in the Apple ecosystem, and that includes using Apple calendar.. but my husband is still using Google Calendar.

We have a shared calendar, which I set up in Apple calendar, and I need him to be able to edit it, but he can't seem to do this from Google calendar. Everything syncs just fine, he can view the entire calendar. In the share settings on my side it says that he's allowed to edit it, but he can't. At least not in Google calendar. What am I missing? Does this just not work?

Monitor Arms for 27" LED Cinema Displays

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 10:26 AM PST

Hi there. I'm researching monitor arms to mount two 27" displays to my desk, but everything I'm seeing caps out at around a 20 lb weight limit per arm. Anyone here using arms successfully for two displays? Would love a brand recommendation.

Laptop keeps switching screens - PLEASE HELP

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 07:27 AM PST

Hi there. I very often use multiple desktops with my macbook air. Often times I load a page in chrome then switch to another desktop (such as another chrome window or even a completely different app), and when I do this my macbook automatically switches back to that first page once it's fully loaded. This is very annoying and this use to not happen. Did I change a preference somewhere by mistake? Anyone know how to solve this problem???

What’s the most efficient way to move large files like movies and a ton of music from a decade old Mac to an external hard drive?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 07:24 AM PST

I'm worried it will take dozens of hours because my Mac is old.

    Thanks for the advice

Replacing hard drive of 2011 MacBook Pro?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 01:15 PM PST

The hard drive on my MacBook that I used through college died a couple years ago, it's just been sitting in my closet and I'd like to get it up and running again.

I've taken a look and found a solid state drive I would like to use for it. The one problem that I have no clue about is how to get the OS on it after replacing the hard drive. Does anyone have any tips on this?

My home button won’t press down (iPhone SE)

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 08:57 AM PST

I've had my iPhone SE for about 4 months and since the day I got it, the home button doesn't press down or click when I use it. It works fine doing normal home button things, but it is way too sensitive. I barely have to apply any pressure to get it to work and it has just gotten really annoying. Is there any way to fix this without replacing my phone?
