Weekly /r/iOSGaming Discussion - What have you been playing lately and what do you recommend?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2022 04:00 PM PDT

Please use this thread to discuss whatever iOS games you've been playing lately. They don't have to be new games, they can be old games and they do not have to be iOS original titles!

As long as it's an iOS game it belongs in here. Make sure to put the name(s) of the game(s) in bold to make it easier for people skimming the thread to see what you're talking about, and if you'd like to make it really convenient turn the game name into a hyperlink that sends people directly to the App Store!

To keep track of the thread, the comments are sorted by "new" by default.

    Grimoire Incremental

    Posted: 12 Jun 2022 04:49 PM PDT

I just picked this game up on the App Store yesterday based on 100% 5 star reviews and it's actually a pretty dope game.

It's an incremental idle / clicker game with a prestige system that offers permanent upgrades. You can easily play for a few minutes in your spare time and get a lot done. There's also no forced ads for upgrades; items, etc. You "can" watch 1 ad per 4 hours for x2.5 rune gain, but is never forced.

It's a really cool game worth checking out if you're into idle / clicker games. Maybe not for everyone, but I like it!

    Diablo Immortal

    Posted: 13 Jun 2022 08:47 AM PDT

I have played this for two days, I tried it because the newspapers said it was the best ios-game ever. But seriously what is the point of it? Just beating on easy monsters to get points to upgrade stuff???? So far for me Gta san andreas is the best ios game ever. Anything remotely like that available?

What was that 1 game a few years ago where you tap to dash and go around collecting weapons and killing goblins? I remember something along the lines of a boss every 100-200-300-400-500 and there being pets like a fey or a princess

Edit: I'm bored and I just remembered this game from a few years ago

Looking for a timesink, one time purchase game, any recommendations?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 06:20 PM PDT

I've been a lurker here and you all seem very knowledgeable on the subject of iOS games, so I thought I would ask for recommendations.

I am looking for a one-time purchase game for my phone that I can pick up, play, pause when needed, and not have to devote huge amounts of time to in a single sitting. I am ok with buying DLC if a game is worth it, but I don't want further in-app purchases for advancement or other crazy monetization.

My tastes are pretty diverse, some games I have loved in the past on iOS or other systems include: Stardew Valley
    FTL
    Slay the Spire
Legends of Runeterra (one player roguelike only)
    Gloomhaven
    Splendor
    Pokémon
    Bloons TD
    Final Fantasy Tactics

I typically love RPGs and Roguelike/lites (I love incremental growth) as well as board games. I am not a fan of action games on mobile, but willing to try anything.

Any recommendations you think I should check out?

Name of old iOS game (iPod touch 2/3rd gen)

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 09:23 PM PDT

Long shot here, but looking for a name of an old game that probably doesn't exist anymore on App Store

Was a geometry/shape game. Game required you to swipe to match shapes. Seem to remember it was neon like shapes on what was a black or "outer spacey" feel backdrop.

Shapes were like spirals, triangle, square, circles, maybe an hourglass/bow tie???

You could chain swipe matches together for more pts and if you messed up and swiped into a miss matched shape, you lost.

I wanna say geostorm but thats not it. It's driving me bonkers trying to remember this.

I tried scouring metacritic and games lists from 07-09 but can't find the game. It was available around the original launch of canabalt and that tap-tap poor man's guitar hero thing. I remember playing it along side those.

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: I should add, I tried looking at my app purchase/dl history on my account - not listed.

Edit 2: looks like geometry wars but you weren't a ship shooting things. It was purely chaining matches together, had a similar aesthetic.

Am I the only one playing PC games on my ipad?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2022 08:27 AM PDT

There are several options. Steam-link allows you to play steam games. Xcloud allow you to play a lot of xbox ultimate pass games. Amazon Luna also have a bunch of PC games.

I basically treat my ipad as a game console now. I don't game much outside of my house, but I bet xcloud and luna probably works on a good 5G or even LTE connection.

Latest game I play on my ipad: Halo Infinite. Sniper Elite 5. Control.

    Character creation rpg on iOS

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 11:05 AM PDT

I'm looking for a rpg with character creation/customization that isn't a MMO and don't requires constant internet connection I've already played the old ones like KOTOR and Neverwinter, I'm looking for new stuff, even if they're relatively short experiences Don't mind being paid of f2p as long as I don't need a constant internet connection

Can anybody tell me the name of this RPG that used to be on the App Store?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2022 03:00 PM PDT

I remember playing this game back in 2016-2017 or so, it had a presence on the App Store and steam. It was a top down RPG where you controlled this character right after a breakup, just trying to get their life back on track. You went through several different locations and met lots of different characters. Super pixeledized art style and I think the title was in red lettering. Any ideas?
