Posted: 18 Apr 2022 04:27 AM PDT Finding out how long the screen has been On in the last 24 hrs is mostly useless and doesn't provide any meaningful insight related to battery. Instead, it should show the Screen On time since last charge. This way people can find out how long their screen was turned on for in a charging cycle. [link] [comments]

what are some of your favorite safe protective cases that aren’t ugly? iphone 12 pro max Posted: 17 Apr 2022 08:49 PM PDT I've been rocking a black Spigen case for awhile now but really looking for something new. I'm not a klutz but not graceful (have glass screen protector). I love thinner feels of cases that have lips for screen and camera that aren't slippery and clunky. In past I've had a casetify one that I enjoyed but trying to expand horizons. Any success with brands: Casely, Incipio, SteepLab? Any others? [link] [comments]
Why side loading is a stupid idea … Posted: 18 Apr 2022 10:17 AM PDT I understand why people want to have side-loading on iOS but I do not support it. I would like to explain why, since this is a complicated topic to understand and cannot be explained in short sentences. First, I'll list the advantages of a closed App Store:
These are some examples and all of these benefits are mainly directed towards a better and safer user experience for the customer. Ultimately, the customer benefits from these advantages. All of these benefits would disappear with side-loading. Companies that do not want to adhere to the App Store guidelines will only offer their apps outside the App Store. The best example here would be Facebook. Facebook is annoyed about the new data protection guidelines (which is a benefit for the consumer, not for the company!). There are also many other companies who develop dubious apps only with the intention of being able to access the personal data of the users. Whoever benefits from the guidelines is clearly the customer, not the dubious companies with their harmful business practices! Now think about it, what would happen if there was an alternative App Store? Facebook and all these other companies will migrate from the App Store, in a few years not a single company will want to sell their apps via the App Store anymore if they can offer their apps outside of the App Store without having to follow any guidelines and rules! There are many other problems that come with it: users will no longer carry out important system updates, e.g. because app developers no longer keep their apps up-to-date. The Apple ecosystem works mainly because so far every user has kept their system up-to-date. This only works if Apple has the power to force developers to keep their apps up-to-date! This is a huge advantage over a competitor like Android, which is exposed to precisely such problems, that users will not keep their phones up-to-date. A functioning ecosystem is nearly nonexistent on Android. I could list many more examples here and go into the matter a little more, but you have to understand that there is no middle or alternative path. A side-loading option would destroy all advantages Apple has over their competitors. As a customer, I decided to buy an iPhone precisely because of these advantages! I don't want side-loading, under any circumstances! Every developer has the option of making their apps available in the App Store. There is no need for a side-loading offer and if you want to take all the risks as a user, you have the free choice to go to a competitor like Android. The iPhone has its advantages, Android has other advantages, and that's how it should stay. The customer has the choice between two different systems! If they would be the same, the customer would even have less choices. Last but not least: more security means less freedom, more freedom means less security. There is no such thing as both! The trick is to find the right balance. And, in my opinion, Apple is doing a great job here. As a customer, I don't miss anything, otherwise I would switch to Android! Why it's not comparable with macOS: macOS is not comparable with iOS, because you have a lot more vulnerable datas on your iPhone and you have your iPhone always with you. Also an iPhone has build in a lot more technology and it needs to follow more strict design guidelines than macOS. For example, on macOS your app has a responsive window, but on iOS an app needs to follow an exact resolution and other UI / UX things so the app will not look shit and would be unintuitive to use. They should put the OCR feature in the Share Sheet so it can be accessed in non-native apps/contexts Posted: 15 Apr 2022 03:38 PM PDT For example, on Twitter, you can't scan a photo from the post, in-app. You either have to screenshot the image and copy/paste/translate from there or you have to save the image and then handle it in the Photos app. [link] [comments]

Is there a reason as to why they got rid of the rose gold iphones? Posted: 14 Apr 2022 06:59 PM PDT They seem to be really popular and they look fantastic as well me and my friends were comparing which phones looked the best without their case and they all really liked my rose gold iphone 10 so if people would buy it why get rid of it? Will iPhone 7 case fit the new iPhone SE 2022? Posted: 15 Apr 2022 11:05 AM PDT Just got my first iPhone . Not sure about the dimensions of the iPhone se 2022 so will old iPhone 7 case fit it? [link] [comments]
iPhone stolen - steps not to take. Posted: 16 Apr 2022 08:25 AM PDT My phone was stolen the other day , I placed it in lost mode , and everything action taken from that step forward seemed to be the wrong one. I think I was on the right track with apple "lost my phone" mode by placing my phone number plus extension in the recovery field of the Find My Phone interface for people to reach me if they recovered the phone. Miscalculations ensued after that. I tried to enable my WhatsApp on my desktop to notify people of my phone being stole. Unfortunately, the people who have the phone are able to perform 2 step verification actions on my phone. I started changing passwords and in my haste, I updated the iCloud account password without properly saving the new password in my password manager. So I lost access to my iCloud from that point forward. But before I royally screwed up there , I updated the Apple "Lost phone" to include my friend's number. We we're holding on to hope that the person that was using my WhatsApp to communicate w my friend would come drop it off and not one of the bad actors in this plot. However, in the middle of all this. My friend who i used his phone contact info in the "lost phone" recovery screen handed off a phone call from his phone to me. It was Apple care trying to validate lost phone or some message and I entered my pin. I was in the middle of a conversation w apple support thinking it was them. It was game over at that point. WhatsApp conversation died off and I lost complete control of my account and phone. Side note. The Mexican police asked if my phone was paid off. Now I'm think they are a part of the stolen phone operation. [link] [comments]
Using an old iPhone as storage - question Posted: 15 Apr 2022 11:40 AM PDT I have a 128gig 13 Pro and I have never come close to filling it up. But imagining a scenario where I am traveling for 10+ days, I 'might' fill it up with photos and videos. Would it be possible to use an older iPhone (a 6s 128) as storage by airdropping photos and videos every day and deleting it from the 13 pro? or would deleting it sync with iCloud and delete it from the 6s too? One workaround would be to have a different Apple ID on the storage phone. [link] [comments]

Best type of case for iPhone 13? Posted: 15 Apr 2022 11:33 AM PDT I will soon buy my first iPhone (13 Pro) and I would like to buy a protective case. But I am not sure which one to buy. A silicone or leather? I saw that there is something called a "rugged case" but I don't know what that is. Which ones are more sustainable? Which ones are more precise (i.e. tight fit)? iPhone 13 or wait for iPhone 14 Posted: 15 Apr 2022 11:06 AM PDT Hey, I need some advice. I'm currently using an iPhone 11 with 128GB and I want to upgrade. Why do I even want a new phone?
The question is just should I buy a iPhone 13 256GB (~850€ instead of 1000€) or wait for the iPhone 14 (non pro) and buy at RRP? [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Apr 2022 11:22 PM PDT Okay, this is going to be a long one which I will do in two parts. The first part will be some backstory with my first smartphone leading up to my current one and beyond, and why I was willing to make the switch after so many years. The second part will have my impressions of the OS, design, and hardware compared to Android phones. I also should mention that I am a sales rep for a big wireless carrier, so I have quite a bit of experience with current phones on the market and others' opinions of them which has helped influence my own opinions. First off, a little back story and my smartphone history. I got my first smartphone back in the spring of 2012 and it was an LG Optimus Slider which was a budget Android phone at the time on Virgin Mobile; a carrier that is no longer offered in the US. I also had an iPod touch 4th generation at the time which I loved so I would have possibly considered an iPhone if it was offered by the carrier at the time. Fast forward to the fall of 2013 and I switched to Verizon and was ready for an upgrade. This was the golden age of smartphones and there were many more players in the market back then with compelling options and Apple's offerings the iPhone 5S and 5C just were not. I hated the small size of my LG Optimus Slider and Apple's new 'big' 4-inch screens just were not going to cut it. I ended up getting the Motorola Droid Ultra which is one of my favorite phones I've owned to date. Lightning and Touch ID would have been nice to have, but a 5-inch higher resolution display, the Android OS (IOS was way too limited back then), the design of Droid, and the battery life among other things greatly outweighed those two features. Jump ahead to the fall of 2015 and I am ready to upgrade my phone again. I am in love with the Android operating system and am wanting to upgrade to the biggest and best Android phone I can find. That phone was the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Apple had refreshed their new larger phone designs with the 6S and 6S Plus, but they still weren't compelling enough for me. The Note 5 had a significantly better display, was more durable (not that either was a tank), had an S-Pen, fast charging, wireless charging, and was more customizable. Two more years go by, it's the fall of 2017 and I am ready to upgrade my phone again. The iPhone X had just launched and had some impressive features, but also some things I just could not live with or in the case of the headphone jack, without. I ended up getting another Galaxy Note; the Galaxy Note 8. Compared to the iPhone X the Note 8 had a USB-C port, a headphone jack (this was BIG for me back then and my least favorite Apple decision ever), a larger display (the X just wasn't big enough), a micro-SD card slot, and some OS features like widgets that I wanted. Skip ahead to the Spring of 2019 which was my junior year of college and while I didn't get a new phone, I got my first Apple device since the iPod Touch 4th generation which was a used mid-2012 13" unibody MacBook Pro. It fit the bill for me as a second laptop that was easier to take to class (I had a nearly 4-year-old 15" MSI gaming laptop I upgraded it with an SSD and 16GB of ram. I had always wanted to try out a Mac and I was impressed with my almost 7-year-old MacBook's build quality, longevity, and optimization. This MacBook piqued my interest in iPhones for the first time since the 4S as I was interested in the integration between IOS and Mac OS. The iPhone XS Max, which was out at the time, was the most compelling iPhone to me in years, but I still held onto my Note 8. It is now Spring of 2021 and it is past time for a new phone. My Note 8 had a cracked screen, bad OLED burn-in, an outdated OS, poor battery life (it was not great to begin with) and had become quite glitchy. I was primarily looking at the Note 20 Ultra (the last competent Samsung phone until the 22 Ultra IMO) and the iPhone 12 Pro Max the latter of which I chose. iPhones finally had almost everything I wanted some of which I'll dive further into below. Compared to the Note 20 Ultra the iPhone 12 Pro Max I preferred the Face ID on the iPhone to the in-screen fingerprint sensor of the Note. The 12 Pro Max was a better value at $1,200 for the 256GB, the Note 20 Ultra did not have a 256GB option so I would have to buy the $1300 128GB and a micro-SD card or the $1450 512GB model if I wanted more than 128GB of storage. The battery life, processor, cameras (IMO) and durability were better with the 12 Pro Max. Beyond that a business app that I used was no longer offered on Android so that helped push my decision a bit. About 6 months go by and in the Fall of 2021, I am loving my iPhone 12 Pro Max so far. I get a job at a big wireless carrier and get to experience all kinds of different phones on a day-to-day basis and still prefer my iPhone 12 Pro Max to any other phone on the market besides the 13 Pro Max, however I did not feel that it was worth the upgrade. I got an iPhone 12 as a work phone which I love as well, but a big screen is one of the primary features I like in a phone, and I would trade it for the Pixel 6 Pro, S22 Ultra, Z Flip 3, or Z Fold 3. Over the next six or seven months, I bought more into the Apple ecosystem as I was loving my iPhones, and MacBook Pro (though it is starting to get a little long in the tooth) and their integration. I bought the Airpods Pro which have exceeded my expectations tremendously. Airtags which have been a wonderful way to track my keys and wallet. A cellular Apple Watch SE which has pushed me to be more active and has become a major convenience in my everyday life. Most recently I got a cellular 11" iPad Pro which has been fantastic for content consumption and drawing with the Apple Pencil. I even further locked myself in by getting the Apple Card. It's only a matter of time before I can justify getting a new MacBook. Now we get on to part two where I will compare iOS and Android and the design and hardware of the modern iPhones to other flagship Android Phones.
In conclusion, I am loving my iPhone 12 Pro Max as well as the other Apple products that I currently have the pleasure of using. From Apple Pay to the build quality I am loving my 12 Pro Max more than any other phone I've had before. I am planning on getting an iPhone 14 Pro Max in the fall provided it has some notable updates, the most important of which being USB-C. Thank you, if you made it this far, and please feel free to ask any questions you may have down in the comments. [link] [comments] |
