Using Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter, then connecting that to thunderbolt 2 to firewire 800 adapter?

Has anyone ever tried this? I have a A2D video converter that uses firewire for capturing VHS tapes. Will this work if I get all these bits?

CarPlay only works with one certain cable inserted in one direction

    Posted: 18 Apr 2022 11:02 AM PDT

I have an iPhone 12 Pro. About 6 months ago, my apple carplay quit working. Contacted apple support they're sure it's a hardware issue. No cable worked, even genuine apple cables. My wife's phone works in my car and hers, mine works in neither. It's my phone. It won't even connect to a PC and be recognized.

I found an old charger in my work truck, plugged it in and for whatever reason the off brand cable works. But only if inserted in a certain direction. Flip it over and it won't connect to date. All cables will charge my phone.

Any idea? Maybe a bad pin in my charger outlet and the same pin is bad on that one charger cable?

Just ordered a Mac Studio from Appogee

    Posted: 18 Apr 2022 11:01 AM PDT

Has anyone ordered from them? My company offers discounts to employees on Apple products but, instead of directly through Apple which I have used in the past, it is through Appogee. I had never heard of them but I went with them instead of Apple direct due to the savings. Had I not wanted to upgrade to 1TB of storage, I might have just bitten the bullet and gotten a pre-built one from Best Buy.

I had planned to replace my MacBook Pro (2015) anyway and a Mac Mini or Studio was perfect as I leave the MBP "docked" all the time. This is why time is a little more of the essence now. I did not know about swelling batteries until I saw a post here the other day. That pushed me to go ahead and make the move. I have not checked, but I am hoping that my laptop is covered by the recall on the MBP 2015s so I can get it fixed then get as much credit as possible from it. If it is not covered, I do not think the credit will be enough to make paying Apple to fix the battery worthwhile. I watched a video on doing it myself and, not being very mechanically inclined, I am not sure I want to try it. Does anyone know of any other trade-in services that will take a laptop with the swollen batteries - understandably at a reduced amount - so they can do the refurb themselves and then resell? I hate to just turn it in for disposal and not get anything out of it.

    iPhone XR Won’t Charge

    Posted: 18 Apr 2022 10:55 AM PDT

I have an iPhone XR that won't charge either wirelessly or plugged in. I noticed this issue happened after I dropped my phone screen side first, surprisingly the case worked in protecting the screen, there is no visible damage to my phone, but I am thinking the hardware was internally damaged? So when I went to plug in my phone to charge I was getting no response, my iPhone does not detect any cable. I tested many different cables, outlets and ports, they all work on my other Apple devices but not on my iPhone XR. I throughly cleaned the port and the pins are fine, nothing is bent or out of the ordinary. So I used a wireless charger I have, but again my phone has no response to it. My phone is now dead and there is no way to charge it, I can't even connect it to my PC since the phone isint detecting any cable. I've tried everything, hard reset, cleaning the charging port, wireless charging, nothing at all. The specialist at Apple was no help at all, he gave me no alternatives or a diagnosis, he just told me to replace my phone. I need help, is this a software or hardware issue, and if so could this be fixed by replacing the battery or charging port?

How to prevent iPhone batteries swelling

    Posted: 18 Apr 2022 10:30 AM PDT

Hi I'm beginning to collect iPhone and iPod, and I'm really concerned about the possibility of the batteries swelling and destroying the devices (specially iPod that are more difficult to repair). Of course I'm gonna check them regularly and charge them every now and then to keep the batteries in the best way possible. My question is: how common is a battery swelling in long term (next 20 years for example)? In your experience how frequent is a swelling battery? Would you remove the batteries to collect them and eventually put them back in to use it every now and then? Thanks to everyone reading this and willing to share their experience or opinion on this very specific topic.

MacBook Pro M1, 2020 - Delete Key Popped Off, How To Get It Back On?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2022 10:16 AM PDT

So my delete key came off for some reason. Not sure why, since I wasn't trying to get it off. I put the stabilizer bracket back in the hooks and pushed down, but the key doesn't quite snap into place. It still works, but it will pop out again if I push the top part of the delete key. Anyone else have this issue?

Should I replace my iPhone 11 Pro battery? Would this decrease its value if I opt for a trade-in?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2022 10:14 AM PDT

Hi guys. I've had an iPhone 11 Pro since launch and so far the only problem I've had is with the battery. Naturally, its capacity has decreased over time and it now sits at 85%. That means I'm struggling to keep it charged for the whole day unless I barely use it.

I have been thinking of getting the battery replaced. However, I was wondering if opening the phone would make it ineligible for trade in or in any case decrease its value when I do decide to buy a new one.

I would get the battery replaced at an authorized store (as I currently live in a country with no official Apple stores but rather authorized re-sellers). I'll be traveling to the US soon which is why I was considering trading it in at some point.

    Thanks for the help

    iPhone XS FaceID Repair Costs

    Posted: 18 Apr 2022 10:03 AM PDT

I've seen a lot of news coverage regarding Apple finally offering FaceID repairs for iPhone X and up models that don't involve whole-device replacement, but no pricing information. Has anyone had Apple perform such a repair yet and can you share how much it costs?

I had an iPhone XS that the FaceID stopped working on last September. When this happened in September Apple wasn't yet offering FaceID repairs, and wanted $549 for a whole-device replacement. This didn't seem like a great value for a 3.5 year-old phone, so I went ahead and purchased an iPhone 13 Pro Max as a replacement a month later. 6 months in, and I'm really hating the size of the Max. I'm considering selling the phone and going back to my XS until the next gen drops, but only if I can restore the FaceID functionality.

tl;dr- How much does a FaceID repair on an iPhone XS cost?

How do I stop needing to enter a password for free apps on my IPad Mini 4?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2022 09:59 AM PDT

I've just bought my son an iPad Mini 4 for his birthday, but when I try to download any apps, even free ones it's saying 'Sign in Required'. I've tried looking online and it says to go to settings and click on 'iTunes and App store' but that's not an option.

Also for information. I have family sharing on, and it sends me a notification to approve the apps also.

    Please help xxx

    iPhone 13 right button slow

    Posted: 18 Apr 2022 09:37 AM PDT

Bought this iPhone 13 on friday, and the power button on the right side of the phone feels sluggish when clicking it at the top side of the button, did I get a dud? are the volume buttons supposed to have the same feel as the power button?

Update: I believe my hand lotion got into the button and it feels fine after cleaning the lotion off, could that small of an amount of lotion really mess up the button like that?

if I have, say, 3 photos of friends, and in each, I have people with eyes shut. I'm after a Mac or iOS tool that auto-magically puts them together into one good image. I do have Photoshop Elements, but it's not the best result. Just wanted to ask.

    iPad Pro 10.5 Sidecar Support

    Posted: 18 Apr 2022 09:21 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I have a 10.5 iPad pro and a 2017 MacBook Pro (Touchbar, four Thunderbolt 3 ports, 3.1 GHz dual-core i5). I have used the sidecar feature in the past with my computer and MacBook but for whatever reason, recently the second screen on my iPad will freeze and will not work which causes me to stop using the feature altogether. It has worked for me if I have the computer and iPad connected with a charging cable, but as that can drain my MacBook's battery I try not to use that feature.

Is there any reason why the feature would not be working smoothly? Are my devices too old? Both are up to date with the latest macOS and iPadOS. Any advice helps, thanks so much!!

Camera question? Can you add text before or after a photo?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2022 09:18 AM PDT

Say you take a picture of the Eiffel Tower. Can you add some text that has the description before you take a photo or can you add text to a photo? (Not a photographer.)

I did something similar at a museum by taking a picture of the description card then the picture.
