How to put my MacBook Air M1 in real sleep mode and not lose battery? Posted: 09 Mar 2022 01:33 PM PST I notice that when I put my Macbook into sleep mode the next time open it it has some notifications ready and the battery is dropping even when I do not use it. How can I stop the refresh for the notifications when it is on sleep and what more can I do to not lose a percentage of my battery while the MacBook is on sleep? [link] [comments]

ADVICE NEEDED: Best Parallels Alternative For Low-to-Medium Tasks (Description below) Posted: 09 Mar 2022 01:10 PM PST Hi, I have an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019), 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5 and 24 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 running macOS Monterey 12.2.1 (21D62) with limited Internal Storage space (1TB). I am looking to install Windows 11 (Ready for Bootcamp version) on a different partition via Bootcamp. I am looking for a virtual machine similar to Parallels where the Windows OS can be used pulling from the Windows partition (And not having to install windows a second time). I will be using Windows as a whole via bootcamp sometimes and sometimes inside macOS via VM. I am staying away from monthly subscriptions so I am looking for something that I can actually pay for (Buy one time) or that is free. The WM use will be only for personal use. Based on this, what would you think are my best options? [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Mar 2022 05:59 AM PST I have a Dell U2520D monitor that is 2560x1440 at 25 inches = 118 dpi. In Windows, I can set scaling to 125% and everything remains exactly as sharp and crisp as the native setting, just universally larger. In MacOS, when I go to System Preferences -> Displays, my resolution options are "Default for display," which is full 2560x1440, or I can click the "scaled" button. But the "scaled" button does not actually let me scale up by say, 25% as in Windows, but it actually requires me to change the resolution. The next highest after 2560x1440 is 2048x1152. Yes, this increases the size of everything, but everything is much less sharp and crisp than the native 2560x1440 setting. Is there no way to universally scale everything up in size while maintaining the sharpness and crispness of the native resolution in MacOS? Edit: Ended up using BetterDummy. Definitely better clarity and crispness than just selecting 2048x1152 in display settings, and first impression is that clarity and crispness using BetterDummy are about as good as if there were true display scaling like in Windows. Kind of crazy you've got to do a hack like this if you don't have a 4k monitor... [link] [comments]

Posted: 09 Mar 2022 10:37 AM PST I'm a terminal nut. I always have at least 2 or 3 terminal windows open in one of my desktops and it's set up to start at my login. I'd like to go a bit further and have one of the terminal windows run a command, ideally a script, that would run some basic status commands for my review. Things like "softwareupdate -l" and "brew doctor" and some others. Maybe `top` too but I've switched to Activity Monitor. Since I have multiple terminal windows opening, I don't want these commands to appear in each window. Instead, I'd like them to be run in just one window, after which it can just drop onto bash or zsh. So far all I've been able to come up with is -- which runs in the first console window but is really ugly. So is there a way to have one instance of terminal run a different start up / login script? Thanks! [link] [comments]
How do I get my finder to find all files with a file name longer than 30 characters Posted: 09 Mar 2022 10:27 AM PST Can't find an option within smart folder or finder. Have to limit all file paths to less than 100 characters. [link] [comments]
Any Fan controlling apps for the new M powered MBP? Posted: 09 Mar 2022 01:25 PM PST I used to have SMS Fan Control but I noticed they don't work with the new Macbooks. I'd like to set my default fan speed higher since these laptops run hot before they even think about turning on the fans. Thank You [link] [comments]
Virtualize Mojave under Big Sur or Monterey? Posted: 09 Mar 2022 01:19 PM PST We are living in the Mac OS dark ages because there is software which will stop working if we upgrade beyond Mojave (non-cloud Creative Suite for instance). That said, it's getting to be time to move to the 21st century and get M1-based Macs for my wife and myself (esp. since they just discontinued my beloved 27" iMac, previously the best desktop on the planet - time for a Mac Studio?). Has anyone successfully run Mojave in a virtual machine under MacOS 11 or 12? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Reset Finder Sidebar to Defult Posted: 09 Mar 2022 01:11 PM PST Is their an quick way to reset the finder sidebar which includes the favorites, cloud, locations and tags header to the default. Things look like they have moved around and I want to reset everything to start with a fresh default view of the finder sidebar. I am using the latest Mac OS 12 Monterey if that helps. Their should be a terminal command that I can enter to automatically reset the finder sidebar to the default view. [link] [comments]
12.2.1 (21D62) network issues? Posted: 09 Mar 2022 12:39 PM PST Hey I have MBP16 2019 with 12.2.1 (21D62) installed for the past couple of days. I noticed that websites sometimes load longer and went to "investigate" with pinging 8.8.8.8. I noticed that connection is very flaky. Basically random timeouts that are up to 20 or even 40s long and then it its working again and randomly again timeouts over and over again. I tried to reboot machine, reboot AP, reboot router and nothing helps. I tried pinging on other devices and it is normal without any timeouts. Did anyone else notice those timeouts after upgrading to 12.2.1? Before that I had 12.1 and it worked great. Now I am considering trying 12.3 rc. [link] [comments]
Sharing Magic Keyboard/Trackpad between 2 Macs Posted: 09 Mar 2022 12:15 PM PST Hey all: I have a MacBook Air for work and just ordered a Mac Studio for personal use. I plan to use them in the same home office with a large external monitor, so I would like to use the same Magic Keyboard and Trackpad with both. This has to be a scenario that Apple thought of? Let's say I've connected to the keyboard / mouse on my MacBook and now want to switch to my desktop Mac. How do I do this? It sounds silly, but I'm not sure how to connect those wireless devices without using the built-in trackpad to access the Bluetooth options to pair them and the Mac Studio obviously doesn't have a hardwired mouse or keyboard (nor would I want to add one). I got back my old late 2013 iMac and couldn't update to Monterrey Posted: 09 Mar 2022 11:54 AM PST Is there a way to get the interface to have the kind of transparent and non-shaded look that Monterrey has? And if there's nothing that I can do about it, it would be bad for the iMac to force install Monterrey? I saw that is possible to do that, but I use this computer a lot for making music and editing, and I don't want to have a slow workflow because of that. Thank you for your help, I'm writing this post because I think that I can make things worse for my computer that I finally got back <3 I leave specs bellow: iMac (27-inch, Late 2013) Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2 GB Storage 1TB :) [link] [comments]
TINU: a tool to make MacOS installer disks Posted: 09 Mar 2022 06:57 AM PST This software is intended to be used to create a bootable macOS installer for computers capable of running Apple's macOS. This app, among other things, is also a GUI for the createinstallmedia executable that could be found in any macOS installer app from Mavericks up to the latest versions. It allows you to easily create a macOS install media without messing around with command line stuff and without using Disk Utility, and also detects and prevents the most common errors with the creation of bootable vanilla macOS installers. https://github.com/ITzTravelInTime/TINU Disclosure: I have no connection with this, and haven't tried it. Just thought it might help some people. [link] [comments]
How do you mute individual apps on this thing lmao Posted: 09 Mar 2022 02:19 PM PST I recently bought my first apple product which is a MacBook Pro and I can't find the option to mute an app while keeping other apps unmuted. On Windows, u just click the speaker icon, and easily done. Is there seriously no option to mute apps individually on a 1000$ laptop? If so just wtf? [link] [comments]
