Can I restore a calendar from a previous archive? Posted: 27 Dec 2021 06:43 AM PST I made a backup of my calendar over a month ago and I want to restore it. iCloud won't restore calendars than 30 days old. I have a bunch of folders in my Library/Calendars folder with (original) at the end of the names. Is there anyway to restore from them? [link] [comments]
Help: System Preferences is using microphone (MacOS 12.1) Posted: 27 Dec 2021 06:11 AM PST I work IT for a company and a user recently brought to my attention that System Preferences keeps using their microphone. The user is very privacy concerned and wants to know why this is happening. Any reason this may be happening? [link] [comments]

First time Mac user, switched from Windows. What 3rd party apps are a must have? Posted: 26 Dec 2021 06:46 PM PST Hi everyone, a month or so ago now I made the switch from Windows to the new Macbook Pro and I am in love with this machine. Since I am new to the Apple and Mac eco-system I am curious on what 3rd party apps you all use and why? [link] [comments]
Network issues since upgrade to Monterey Posted: 27 Dec 2021 04:38 AM PST (Sorry for crossposting on /r/mac) My setup... Several Macs (MBPs, Mac Minis) with mixture of OSs (Catalina, Big Sur, Monterey). I have a Mac Mini (late 2014) hooked up to a TV to watch downloaded video files (MP4, MKV, M4V, etc..) through VLC. The video files are downloaded on an older Mac Mini (2012) in my basement running Catalina. Recently upgraded the Mac Mini from Catalina to Monterey), and since then I cannot SFTP the videos without the network on the TV Mac Mini resetting frequently - it uses ethernet as our house is wired with CAT6, but through testing, the same thing happens on wifi. It seems like the network card on the Mac itself is just failing and resetting, as noted when I tried the same with a VPN connected - the VPN would constantly restart. When transferring the file from the basement Mac using SFTP it will transfer about 20-30MB before stopping and then resume, eventually (but not always) completing the transfer. Transferring files using other computers (MBP running Big Sur, MBP running Monterey) has issues, but not as bad. I can't upgrade the 2012 TV Mac Mini beyond Catalina (without some kind of hack) I tried downgrading to Big Sur and had the same issues. Downgraded back to Catalina and everything works just fine... TL;DR: Cannot transfer files over my network properly since upgrading target host to Monterey. Any thoughts? I know the network layer was changed in Big Sur (causing lots of headaches for me when running VMware Fusion.... but that's another story), why would I see these issues? P.S. I also did some of the other typical troubleshooting like resetting PRAM, etc. [link] [comments]

I deleted the Mac OS Monterey installer but the space didn't come back! Posted: 27 Dec 2021 02:06 AM PST I was attempting to install Mac OS Monterey and installed the installer, I quickly realized it needed a whopping 40GB of space to install. I quit the launcher and deleted it (yes even from the trash), but when I check my storage it doesn't show the freed space. This is also true if I use a third-party app like DaisyDisk to check my storage. Can someone help me get this storage back? [link] [comments]

Downgrade from Monterey to Big Sur Posted: 27 Dec 2021 12:47 AM PST I have an iMac at work that is currently running Monterey but I need to downgrade to Big Sur (boss upgraded to the wrong OS). We require a specific driver/software that isn't compatible with Monterey yet. For reference, it is the Sony XDCAM Drive Software. We have a Time Machine backup but if I erase the HD and install Big Sur won't it just reinstall Monterey when I restore from the Time Machine backup to get all of his files and stuff back? How would y'all suggest downgrading to Big Sur while still keeping all of the files and settings? [link] [comments]

Syncing iMessage between mac and iPhone Posted: 26 Dec 2021 10:26 PM PST Hi all, sorry if this is the wrong subreddit for this. I got a new phone and restored it from a backup. However, the backup was out of date but the latest I had. On my mac, there were more up to date iMessages as I guess they weren't syncing over iCloud at the time. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to have these messages transfer to my iPhone? The problem is, when I open the messages app on my mac, not all the message are there. When I open the Messages folder (database/archive etc) though, they are. Can I get these archived messages into my messages app and have them sync to my iPhone? Thanks in advance! New to Mac: mouse acceleration is driving me crazy Posted: 26 Dec 2021 09:10 AM PST Hi everyone, I'm writing here because I need help from more experienced Mac users. I've recently bought a base model M1 Mac Mini to use as my new work-at-home machine(I do video editing in DaVinci Resolve, graphics with the Affinity suite and I code websites in VSCode). I'm liking the machine so far but there's one thing driving me crazy to the point I thought about returning it if I don't manage to fix it: the mouse acceleration. For context I've been using Windows and Linux computers since I was a kid, and no matter which mouse or Windows/Linux version(or distro) I use I can always turn off mouse acceleration and the mouse "feels" the exact same on every OS...but not on Mac. I'm using an MX Master 3(with the Mac specific version of the MX Keys keyboard) and no matter what I do, it feels "wrong". It goes from too slow to too fast, and I often end up on the wrong places of the screen due to this: bear in mind that I've also played competitive FPS games back in the day so if I don't feel the mouse, even for work stuff, I go crazy. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue and, finally, fully enjoy my Mac(which I otherwise love)? I already tried disabling the acceleration with the terminal command(I'm on Monterey and I find it absurd that Apple doesn't provide a checkbox to disable it like every single OS out there) but that put my mouse to the slowest possible setting: I then manually made the cursor speed faster in the Logi Options application but 1) it's not fast enough 2) after I reboot my system the mouse works but Logi Options doesn't see it anymore. Sorry for the wall of text but I'm really loving working on this Mac but, being new to this OS, I can't fix the issue on my own and I can't "feel" my workflow entirely. P.s. while I'm writing I'm using an USB Razer mouse and I noticed that, with the USB mices, the acceleration is there but not as annoying...yet I still want to get rid of it entirely. Mac Os starts Safari each time I do search with Google for a word in TextEdit app Posted: 26 Dec 2021 08:46 PM PST My default browser is Chrome(in Preferences) yet Mac Os ignores my setting and uses Safari for Google search Does anybody knows how to fix it This is not ideological debate of Chrome Vs Safari I specify a default browser(Chrome) and Mac Os chooses another(Safari) in effect overwriting my preference M1 Mini running 12.1 [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Dec 2021 08:40 PM PST Hi all, apologies if this isn't the right place, but I just got a MacBook Air M1 coming from Windows. I'm trying to setup notifications for my Gmail and Google Mail to alert me via Safari. I have tried everything in the world I can think of and then some. I get the notifications, but there is no sound. Occasionally after dicking around with settings I will get the Gmail alert to where it makes a sound after clicking on the notification, but that does not seem to stick, and regardless it defeats the purpose if it only makes a sound after I click since the whole idea is for the sound to alert me when it comes in, not after I've already noticed it. Is this a known bug? This a brand new laptop and I have no desire to to use the built-in Apple Calendar and Apple Mail apps, so it's a bit of a bummer to already be experiencing compatibility issues. Messages app on Monterey not syncing with iOS messages (iPhone 13)? Posted: 26 Dec 2021 06:53 PM PST Hi, wondering if anyone has had this problem: My messages don't sync properly from iOS to Mac OS. New messages appear on Mac OS (running Monterey) but if I read them on my phone first they still appear as unread on my iMac. I've tried to sync in the Messages app preferences but still no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Any way to reduce spacing of menu bar items? Possibly w/ terminal? Posted: 26 Dec 2021 03:27 PM PST The spacing between the menu bar items is just obnoxious at this point, especially considering how full it can get. I think apple went for the aesthetic, but it looks awful, lol. Edit: I know Bartender 4 is able to do this, so it has to be somewhere in the OS where it can be changed, if anyone knows what Bartender does to change the spacing. I don't want the app. [link] [comments] |
