I think I own the 3rd and my dad might own the 1st and 2nd

Just wondering if it's possible to get any of them to work.

I think I have played some of them on my iPad (4th gen?) previously.

    Maybe jailbreak would be neccesary?

[Detailed post] review for iPad pro+controllers+haptic feedback

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 03:30 AM PST

Recently I got some free time post my exam so I so went back to iOS gaming and glad to find out that the gaming performance has evolved so much recently.

Anyways I bought a new Dual Sense 5 controller to play games, ever since apple announced the compatibility of iPad os with controllers I was keen on using it, there are many videos available on youtube where people complained about iOS/iPadOS not supporting rumble or haptic feedback on iOS when used with controllers.

I mainly play games on iPad, even I did not get any vibration or feedback while playing games with dual sense 5. I researched a bit, found many posts on reddit in different subreddits but none of the posts had any conclusive answers.

So With free time I had I tested multiple games like The Pathless, Divinity : The original sin 2, NBA2K22, G.R.I.D, Rush Rally, Virtua Tennis, Beach Buggy Racing , Hot Lava, COD Mobile and I found out that all games except Virtua Tennis supports haptic feedback on iPhones whereas I did not get any rumble or feedback on iPad initially and I researched and found many posts on reddit stating that its a bug in iPad OS or mainly since iPad does not have haptic motor there was no feedback or rumble in iPad games even when playing with controllers.

I extensively tested these games on both my iPhone and iPad pro and came to a conclusion :

    1. Its not iPad OS bug that there's no rumble
    2. Its because the developers are lazy or feel that its not necessary to update their games to take advantage of newer generation controllers and features.

Games that support Rumble/Haptic feedback on iPad os :

    1. GRID : There's nothing about this game that I don't like, great port, great devs, good support, its first game that was updated to take advantage of haptic feedback, it gives amazing experience using dual sense, it gives all kind of haptic feedback as you play the game, as you drive on road, on grass or if you crash your car somewhere, you can feel it in your hands, once you play 30 mins with haptic feedback, playing without haptic feedback feels so unnatural.

    2. Rush Rally 4 : Apparently Rush Rally origin, Rush Rally 3 also support haptic feedback along the Rush RALLY 3, the rumble dint feel as optimised as GRID but its present and you can feel it. I never owned pS5 so i cant comment about adaptive triggers but weirdly enough I genuinely got a sense of R trigger feeling heavier as I accelerated. Braking also gives good feedback.

    3. Hot Lava, beautiful multiplayer game available on apple arcade provides good feedback with dualsense 5.

    4. Divinity : Original Sin 2 also supports Rumble/Haptic feedback on iPad.

    5. Buggy beach racing also has support for haptic feedback but i found it to be hit or mis, sometime I got it sometimes nothing.

    6. The Pathless : the stellar graphic marvel does not support haptic feedback of any kind on iPad whereas it has amazing implementation of haptic feedback on iPhones. After playing on iPhones with rumble the games feels much boring and unplayable on iPad without the vibrations. The tension you feel in your fingers when you pull the arrow is amazing.

The developers need to update their games for iPads, optimisation would make this game one of the best to plat on iPad with controllers.

NBA 2K22 : Despite the online review I could not find rumble in either version of NBA2K22, neither iPad nor Iphone version provided any sorta feedback when playing with controllers. I wish they update their game with controller support, it would make the gaming experience much better for gamers.

Virtua Tennis : Does not support any sorta haptic feedback which is shame since their PC versions have support for vibrations and I wish they update their game in future as playing tennis with feedback is amazing experience.

COD MOBILE : No feedback although playing becomes much fun with controller.

I like the direction apple is heading with respect to gaming. From device providers to service providers, its great for consumers. With newer devices apple is pushing limits of mobile gaming. For me iPad pro 11 inch is the best handheld gaming/emulating device I ever owned without knowing It was one.

In coming days I hope to see app developers optimising and updating their apps and games to support haptic feedback in their games for iPad OS along iOS and i hope optimisation in coming days make the list much bugger for games that support haptic feedback. .

I hope this post answers questions many might be having in their head, feel free to add any games to the list or ask away any questions.
