Receiving my first MacOS laptop from work soon. How to smoothly transition from Ubuntu? Posted: 20 Feb 2022 03:52 AM PST Hey I've been using Ubuntu or Debian-based distros for the last 3 years. I've never used MacOS before, and I'm going to get one from my work soon. What is the important stuff to know for the transition to be the smoothest and to avoid gotchas? For instance, I know brew is the package manager. What else? submitted by /u/cygosw [link] [comments] |
Any alternative to Wallpaper Engine? Posted: 20 Feb 2022 06:32 AM PST As far as I know, Wallpaper Engine doesn't work for macOS yet. I would like to use an animated wallpaper but I can't find any free alternative software to achieve this. Could someone help me find something good and powerful enough to allow me to use dynamic medias such as a .webm or .mp4 file? I heard of Dynamic Wallpaper Engine but it's paid and doesn't seem as good as Wallpaper Engine. submitted by /u/purple_bloed [link] [comments] |

It's giving me the same problem with my older HD. I really need to sort this out ASAP as my work will get stalled. Any help please 🙏 I am freaking out internally submitted by /u/yellow_boots_love [link] [comments] |
Discord with Bluetooth headphones causes the sound to mess up periodically Posted: 20 Feb 2022 04:00 AM PST Hello! So I have a bit of a problem on my MacBook, running Monterey 12.2, in which whenever I am in a Discord call, or any voice communication application, the sound completely messes up for a few seconds causing me not to understand a single word the person I am talking to is saying. This only happens when I am connected to my Bluetooth headphones. It starts by making a weird little beep noise and then proceeds to turn the person I am talking to into Godzilla with this low rumbling kind of sound. It goes on for a second or two and then reverts to normal. This gets repeated once every minute to 5 minutes making it incredibly frustrating trying to do any work when talking to someone. One thing I noticed was that whenever this happens, macOS tries to open the Music application by itself, every, single, time. I installed an app called NoTunes which prevents the Music app from being able to open at all. Now when it does this it sometimes opens the Spotify app instead or unpauses Spotify on my PC if I have it open and paused. It's incredibly annoying... Does anyone know how to handle this or at least share a similar experience? submitted by /u/DeadliestFox [link] [comments] |

Seeking ways to open a .TIB file on macOS Posted: 20 Feb 2022 06:26 AM PST A few years ago when I still used a pc that was about to crash on me a company made backups of the 2 harddrives. Now years and the jump to the Mac mini m1 later I still have those files. Is there any way to open them and view/ extract the content? I've stumbled upon Acronnis Cyber Protect Home Office (formally Acronis True Image). And if im not mistaken that is how the tip files once where made. submitted by /u/sidekicknotfound [link] [comments] |

changing the resolution without changing the size Posted: 20 Feb 2022 05:00 AM PST I want to know if it is possible to change the resolution of my Mac without changing the size of everything, I would rather be able to use my 2560 by 1600 display but beyond 1050 everything starts getting tiny. I have a 2017 13 MacBook Pro if that helps. submitted by /u/Crossedbun [link] [comments] |
Is this normal after a software update?! Posted: 20 Feb 2022 05:00 AM PST M1 Pro. I saw a software update for 12.2.1. I installed it and it told me to restart my computer to complete the update. I boot into a COMPLETELY NEW LOOKING OS. The lock screen had the default background (it did still show my account name, however). When I logged in, it was now asking me to select my theme (light/dark), stuff like "do you want to share analytics with apple", "do you want to sync storage with iCloud", etc. with a completely new background. I was convinced my OS had completely been reinstalled! I freaked out, because I was already on version 12 prior to this - this did NOT seem typical for a small sub-version update. I held the Touch ID button, then it rebooted and I had my OS back (saw my same lock screen, logged in just fine). No idea why this happened. How to do full iPhone backups to Mac/External SSD? Posted: 19 Feb 2022 08:09 PM PST I am a little confused here. All the time, I used the finder to back up my iDevices. But I heard of some apps for backups, like iMazing. Why should I use a 3rd party app to backup my iDevices to mac? Mac already provides a solution, so what is the advantage of apps like iMazing? And what's the best backup solution available in your opinion? submitted by /u/Snorlax_lax [link] [comments] |
How to make iCloud Drive files visible on desktop? Posted: 20 Feb 2022 04:32 AM PST I noticed that whenever I add a file to iCloud drive, it disappears from the desktop, not sure why this is. Can a file be on both iCloud drive and visible on the desktop at the same time? I would love to be able to quickly access my iCloud files on the desktop, surely there is a way ... submitted by /u/mervius [link] [comments] |
How to modify the default icons of file types that an app opens but are missing from the Resources folder? Posted: 20 Feb 2022 04:10 AM PST The most common online advice on customizing various file type icons of an app is via the Finder\Context Menu\Show Packages Content\Resources folder. Some apps are readily modifiable because their designated icons are easy to locate. But how do you customize apps without any visible .icns files (except the AppIcon.icns), meaning there are only a bunch of files but not sure which ones can be edited to change the generic icons used by the app. submitted by /u/TheCatWasAsking [link] [comments] |
