Posted: 17 Feb 2022 04:34 AM PST Disney+ tech customer send me an email yesterday, which I found in my spam folder (WTF), this morning, saying something like this: "Dear Disney+ customer: regarding your inquiry several months ago about Disney+ supporting surround sound on an Apple TV 4K via Airplay 2 and the "default audio output" feature, we´re happy to report that we have implemented changes in our A/V player audio pipeline to fully take advantage of this, and those changes are now incorporated in the latest version of the tvOS app". So... I ran to test stuff, of course. Go to the app store on the Apple TV, search for Disney+, and see it there is an update available. If there is, click on the UPDATE button. If there is not, you already have the latest version, which was released very recently. Go ahead and test content. Not just with Atmos, but in general. The soundstage should be wider, less congested, less compressed, the bass tighter and more focused. Sound sound be clearer in general, more clean and precise. Dialogue should improve as well. Disney+ content now sound better in general with the homepods, not just Atmos tracks. Of course, there is catch, but only an aesthetic one: There is currently a bug (not with the homepods, but with the Disney+ app in general), regarding Atmos content that causes the info card of the content to just display 5.1, not Atmos, but if you choose the Atmos audio track while playing said content, it will actually play in Atmos. Tested it with my internal LG OLED speakers and Mandalorian: The info card of the show only said 5.1 even with my internal tv speakers selected as the audio output, but when I started the playback and choose the English track (which is Atmos), the Atmos badge appeared on the screen for a few seconds. Extremely frustrated trying to get AV set up properly with LG Posted: 16 Feb 2022 05:17 PM PST This week my sound has decided to stop working properly. Anyone who can give me proper setup instructions will have my undying gratitude. I'm trying to set up my 2021 ATV4K (2nd Gen) with a 2021 LG C1 (55-inch) and a 2021 LG SP9YA 5.1.2 soundbar with optional rear speakers. Any help is appreciated, from the physical cable connections to the settings on all the devices. I can get Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos to work from the ATV4K but only through the TV speakers, not through the sound bar. I've tried the setup in Apple's support documents (which are woefully sparse), as well as other advice I found online, but the sound keeps going back to the TV speakers when playing both purchased Apple content and from apps such as Disney+ and Hulu. I'm probably going to down a big glass of bourbon and call it a night and hope I wake up to some great advice. Please and thank you! [link] [comments] |
