Issue using Google Drive for the first time - Relocate Macos personal folders? Posted: 05 Dec 2021 03:00 AM PST Hello! I am a rookie moving form Windows to Macos, attempting to migrate data between a Mac and a PC. I won't be using migration assistant because it does not meet my requirements On the PC personal data is stored in c:\users\me, and my personal folders on the mac are set to Macintosh HD/Users/me. At the moment personal data on the PC end is synchronised in the cloud using Google Drive, therefore all folders below c:\users\me are synchronised, including special folders such as Desktop, Documents and Pictures. I thought I could easily synchronise all data also on the Mac, so I have installed Google Drive, which by default uses the path /Volumes/GoogleDrive as the root folder. As such, I have changed the Google Drive root folder to /users/me, however when Google Drive is restarted an error is thrown: "Can't mount Drive. The mount location is a non-empty directory. Choose a different mount location." Basically Google Drive requires that on first launch the local root folder on the Mac is empty, which is not. To fix this, I thought I could temporarily relocate all folders below /users/me to a temporary folder and then launch Google Drive, however, once the synchronisation would be completed, /users/me would also contain Desktop, Documents folders amongst others, which are not the default "system" personal folders. BTW, on the Mac, /users/me currently contains special hidden folders, which I am not sure if can be safely relocated during the initial sync, for instance .bin, .library..... Any trick to overcome this? Can I safely move these folders until the first synch is done? How would I instruct the macos to use the freshly synchronized folders such as Desktop, Documents, etc, to the be the default personal folders, once the initial sync is done? [link] [comments]
New MacBook Pro Is Super Glitchy, What Can I Do? Posted: 04 Dec 2021 06:07 PM PST So, I've now had my MacBook Pro for around a week, and for the most part I love it. However, I keep running into issues. Namely, it has completely crashed on me once, and it now refuses to quit Safari or turn itself off. This is frustrating me to no end, especially because the experience has otherwise been far better than I've had on Windows. Is there any explanation for why this might be, and how might I go about troubleshooting and fixing it? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Looking for a CalDav-compatible tasks app Posted: 05 Dec 2021 02:27 AM PST Hello, I'm running my own home server and I've got tasks syncing to my Android phone using a wonderful app called Tasks.org, which supports CalDAV. What I particularly like about it is the ability to create a task and add sub-tasks to it - I use this for all sorts of things, but mainly grocery shopping. However, I have yet to find a decent application that would allow me to edit my tasks on my Mac and sync with my own CalDAV server. Does anyone have any suggestions, please? Thank you! Permission to turn on/off bluetooth on Monterey? Posted: 05 Dec 2021 01:16 AM PST Yesterday while having a problem connecting with my Airpods, I somehow saw a lock right next to the "Turn bluetooth off" button in the System Preference => Bluetooth. I clicked on that and authorised it to lock the toggle, thinking it was just one of the option just like in the privacy section. But now I don't know how to turn off that option. The lock has been disappeared ever since and I cannot seem to be enable it by any of the function keys. Any ideas about this? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Any way to pseudo pin an app to dock? Posted: 05 Dec 2021 01:09 AM PST Okay, If I want an app to be in the dock I can just "Keep in Dock" it, as a bonus I get to choose where exactly it will be. But, what if I want to book a location on the dock for the app, without occupying precious space when the app in not launched? Say, I use 2 invisible spacers in the dock, and between them I have all my browsers. However, I'd like to only keep 2, yet make it so any other browser will appear to the left of the invisible spacer, and not on the rightmost part of the dock. Anyway to do it? [link] [comments]
Upgraded to Monterrey, MacBook Air now only works in safe mode? Posted: 04 Dec 2021 09:09 PM PST Hi everyone, I recently upgraded my 2015 MacBook Air to Monterey from Mojave using the software update from system preferences. After a lengthy installation process in which it was stuck in the boot loop , I rebooted my MacBook Air in Safe mode. It seemed to work and I was able to complete the setup process for Monterey . However now I can only get it to boot in safe mode. If I try to boot it regularly, it's stuck in the boot loop. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so , how did you fix it? Thanks a lot for the help! [link] [comments]
What is the most snappy/fast/quick booting/speedy MacOS that is usable in 2021? Posted: 05 Dec 2021 12:35 AM PST Big Sur and Monterey are dissapointing for me in terms of performance + I find them a little ugly. Looking to downgrade.(Macbook Pro 2015 13" i7 16GB RAM 500GB SSD) [link] [comments]
Safari goes back a page randomly? Posted: 04 Dec 2021 11:48 PM PST I've had this weird issue ever since updating to Big Sur 11.6 and now with Monterey where Safari will randomly decide to go back a page any time I click a link. This can happen on the start page when I enter a query into the search bar (happens almost half the time) or when I click on a link on a website (a bit rarer, but seems to happen the most often on Google). It will take me to the link very briefly before kicking me back to the previous page. Anyone else having similar issues? Its driving me insane [link] [comments]
Airdrop is broken I need help please Posted: 04 Dec 2021 09:13 PM PST Hi guys, I have a MacBook Pro 8,1 it's a 2011 13 inch unibody. I need airdrop for school but the only problem is it doesn't appear in the sidebar in finder and when I try to open the application for it, it says "this operation cannot be completed because the item can't be found". Any help or answers are appreciated, thank you Ps. I'm running a patched version of Catalina if this helps. [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Dec 2021 02:00 PM PST We have a late 2013 macbook air that was running big sur until the person using it erased it and used the internet installer to reinstall OSX. This of course has left it on Mountain Lion, which is what the laptop came with. The problem is that we cannot see any way of updating from Mountain Lion back to Big Sur. The updates just try and open the app store which fails to connect because Mountain Lion's certificate store is out of date, it doesn't trust the App Store's certificates so won't even try and connect. All the ways I can see of creating offline install media require a mac. All of the unofficial ways I can see of updating the CA certificates require copying them from an updated mac. This is the only mac we have access to. This feels like it's essentially bricked the macbook air by leaving it on an ancient version of OSX. Is there any way around this? It feels like the easiest way would be to create an offline installer for Big Sur but I need a way of doing it that will work on Windows or Linux, and doesn't require downloading .DMG files from random google drives. Posted: 04 Dec 2021 01:54 PM PST Switched from using windows all my life and I like macOS so far. But I can't find anything. Exported file from Photoshop, I have no idea where it is. Some folder that I can't see in Finder. Same with Garageband. Finder does not show all the folders on my macbook, just a couple of them like Downloads or Documents. Where's My Computer counterpart where I can see everything on disc? What's up with discs/locations (or whatever it's called) staying there after installing an app? Apple Music seems to duplicate my mp3 files whenever I play them and I can't find Apple Music folder in Finder either. I just want to see all my folders, not Favourites. [link] [comments]

Mail silently quits since Monterey Posted: 04 Dec 2021 01:44 PM PST I typically leave the Mail app open perpetually. I've noticed that ever since I upgraded to Monterey, when I go to the dock, I will often notice that Mail is no longer open. It just silently quits in the background. No crash report, no dialog, nothing. (and possibly other system apps too). Has anybody else noticed this? Does Mail have it's own debug log of some sort so I can capture the occurrence?
