The person i call says your voice is extremely low and it disappears for a while and then comes back to being low. Posted: 30 Dec 2021 11:43 PM PST Long story short, my very non-technical mother recently had surgery and is in the hospital for 8 weeks, and we would like to video chat as I am unable to be there in person. She has an iPhone and basically no experience with video chat. I don't own any Apple devices. Any suggestions for the absolute simplest option on her end to set something up? I can do pretty much whatever is needed from this end, but I want her setup to be as simple as possible. | General question about receiving text messages (iMessage vs SMS) Posted: 30 Dec 2021 05:03 PM PST I'm really hoping this makes sense. So I've looked around online to try to understand this, and to a point I think I've got it but I can't find any articles that answer the more specific question. ~ the following is for situations where sender and receiver are both using iPhones and the sender has good service and/or is on WiFi. I know if you have bad-no service, you should still get iMessages if you are on WiFi (correct?). From what I can tell, if you have bad service and are not on WiFi the incoming messages will come through as SMS messages, or will be sent to you as SMS (Correct?). So, if you have no WiFi, and bad-no service, and incoming messages are sent as SMS and they don't reach your phone when sent, will you still get those messages once WiFi or cell service becomes available? Unfortunately, iPhone settings doesn't warn you that this function closes all of your tabs out. I was told to turn off my mobile data on my pixel, but that didn't help. Also, I've been trying to figure out solutions and I keep reading about a wifi Hotspot the iPhone creates for the Android to connect to being the source of a lot of problems, yet I'm not seeing any info about any of that on my phones during the set up process. they're both connected to my home wifi, so that's confusing me further. It's been happening for a while and this issue is specific to mobile data. Other websites and apps work just fine. Everytime I refresh twitter, my data usage shows 1kb gets used but nothing loads and then it says "tweets aren't loading right now". For apple apps, it just keeps loading and doesn't show anything. | Using imessage if iphone is powered off/broken Posted: 30 Dec 2021 11:58 AM PST I am currently not an iPhone user and considering a switch from Android. I am interested in the methods i have to keep calls or SMS flowing in the event of the iphone were to be broken/powered off, etc. I've been a google voice user since 2009 and the biggest strength it has is being able to use from just about any platform. Earlier this year when I broke a pixel 4 I had no problems with using my macbook or ipad to maintain comms and get phone fixed. I don't plan to break a phone, but I've had a couple phone break in the last ~4 years and the ability to text from anther device instantly without any sim-swapping, etc makes life much easier. If I migrate to iPhone, it likely makes a lot more sense to take the full plunge and port my GVoice # into the mobile carrier as the whole apple eco-system is going to be more smoothly integrated than keeping google voice (i know it cant integrate with outbound calls like android dialer for example) If that is the case, this is where I was researching and seeing that the apple watch cellular models should still take calls/SMS etc even if the phone is turned off. If that is the case, the additional costs of the watch cell model + $5-10 month carrier fee may be worth it. And I would assume that if the iPhone was powered down, that iMessage on mac or ipad is still fully functional if the watch is ingesting the calls and texts.
