    AirTag "orchestra"

    Posted: 01 Dec 2021 06:43 PM PST

So, a few days ago, I am getting off a plane, and like everyone else, heading towards the baggage claim. Bags are slightly late, so people just put their noses in their phones. And then it started. Everyone's AirTags began to go off.

Curious, I checked my phone, and there it was. Several alerts on my phone tell me that a foreign AirTag and AirPods Pro are traveling with me. And due to bag delays, people paid a bit more attention to their phones and tapped on the "Ring the AirTag" button (or whatever it's called). A lot of confused people started checking why their AirTag was beeping and what was happening.

I found this pretty amusing, and perhaps a good idea for Apple to detect behavior like this. When a planeload of people is walking in the same direction, these things will happen. Especially at certain terminals, where it's a very long walk (looking at you, Terminal 4 at JFK), there will be a decent number of AirTags "following" you.

Wonder if anyone else encountered something similar?

I'm convinced the new iPad Mini is the ideal tablet size

    Posted: 01 Dec 2021 02:04 PM PST

The 10" and 11" are too big for the same reason it doesn't make sense to put touchscreen on laptops. If a touchscreen is too big it requires more movement from your hand to make things happen and that can hinder input efficiency.

Especially we have a lot of software that have no consideration for consolidating controls on a big touchscreen, you often have to reach all corners of the screen to do what you want to do and that's just stupid on big screens like the 12.9", no wonder they're pushing the keyboard and keyboard shortcuts.

I honestly never felt the magic of the original iPad sales pitch of just sitting down and browsing, because the screens have always been too big it's annoying having to constantly lift my arm, the iPads have also been too heavy to hold with one hand. But now with the new iPad Mini, it actually does feel like the original sales pitch by Steve Jobs now. Yea it's just a big phone and honestly I wish it was a fully featured iPhone but ignoring that, it works really well.

It is just big enough to make websites workable, it is an "ipad" device so apps tend to put more information on the screen, but it's light and small it's effortless to hold and fit into any kind of purse or bag if not big pockets.

Obviously I know Apple didn't invent the mini tablet, if I remember correctly it was either the Nexus 7 or the blackberry thing, and of course the older iPad Mini. I think those products all had some missing pieces whether it's software, performance, or just too much bezels, that didn't give them the magic the new iPad Mini has.

Why isn’t Dune available in 4K in the Apple store?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2021 11:41 AM PST

I only see it as HD in Canada which seems ridiculous. How is this not being sold in 4K?

    Why does Apple use DHL?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2021 01:51 PM PST

They are absolutely horrible and incompetent. I was expecting a new MBP on 11/29 and it was not delivered. Their website says they attempted to deliver it but no one ever came b the house... I was here all day. Since 11/29 I've called for an update at least twice a day... every rep gives me a new story about the package and where it is and informs me they give it delivered that day. Well it still hasn't been delivered. I've asked for a supervisor four times and have not received a single call from a supervisor.

Today I finally emailed their escalation team and was told they would look into it. A few hours later I called them directly and spoke to the person who emailed me. She said she called the local manager but he didn't answer and hasn't responded. The website shows no update since 11/29 and no one can tell me why they haven't attempted to redeliver it.

At what point do I consider the package lost/stolen and file a claim against DHL? Or do I need to start a claim with Apple?

Alarm bug with Dolby Atmos enabled

    Posted: 01 Dec 2021 06:37 AM PST

So I just learned that if you have "Download in Dolby Atmos" checked in the music settings, download any song (even one that isn't a Dolby Atmos song), set that song as your alarm, it will play fine in the preview for the alarm sound but when the alarm actually goes off, no sound will play… just vibration.

Luckily the vibration was able to wake me up but hopefully no one misses something important because of this bug. Supposedly it's been around since iOS 14 so I hope Apple fixes this glaring issue.

Do the Airpods 3 get better over time?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2021 11:26 AM PST

They are sooo close to being perfect. Right ear, everything is fine. But the left ear feels like its always falling out. I dont think it is, as a shoot my head around and they never flew out. Im just in this predicament.

They're a christmas present, and I've been given them early just to make sure they comfortable. So today I have to decide whether they're earphones I want, or to go for something else.

Edit: I did notice if I tilt them upwards a bit they feel a lot less loose. I'm assuming it is just a case of getting used to them?
