| Can downloads be remotely removed by a third party? Posted: 12 Oct 2021 12:28 AM PDT I know this sounds stupid but I was doing research a few weeks ago and downloaded a few pdfs from a website. These were whitepapers from the official website of a consulting company. However now looking at the Download tab on the bottom of my Chrome window the file is listed as "Removed". I checked in Finder and the file is there I just can't open it. I tried to select it for "Info" but it almost made Finder crash and then the file fully disappeared. | Does reinstalling macos progress pick up where we left off? Posted: 11 Oct 2021 09:20 PM PDT Hey, sorry if it's a stupid question. I'm new to mac/apple products and i barely know anything about computers. So i decided to factory reset my macbook air m1, and i had to reinstall the macos big sur. But the thing is, my internet connection is super slow and unstable (i didn't read the part where reinstalling is heavily reliant on internet until i erased everything😥). I was already on about 80% progress (it took me almost 48 hrs to get to this point), when i got the error message "PKDownloadError 8), so it's most likely because my connection was interrupted. Then i checked the disk utility, and there's a 10GB file in the internal disk, which there wasn't before, so i'm guessing it's from the unfinished macos installation. My question is, if i restart the macos installation, does it install the rest of the file that hasn't been downloaded yet from the previous installation, or does it start from scratch? I know I can make the "function" key into the "Control" key from Windows, howevcer this then means it can't be used to click + delete to forward delete. Is there a way to allow both? Opening new tabs on Chrome of safari takes 10-30 seconds and I think this has only started recently. I've cleared my cache I have 600gb leftover storage. I've scanned for viruses. | Big Sur 11.6 - Maps frequently accessing location services Posted: 11 Oct 2021 02:54 PM PDT Multiple times an hour maps is shown to be accessing location services recently, I don't recall this happening previously (prior to approx. a week ago). When I check Security & Privacy > Location Services, Maps is the only app/service to ever be indicated to be accessing location within the past 24hrs. I searched posts to see if there were any clues as to an explanation and the only thing I found even remotely applicable was possibly because I've allowed Find My to determine my location. But there is never an arrow indicating that it has accessed my location, only Maps - every time. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any idea as to a cause to the frequency of this occurring? For the time being I've disallowed Maps access to my location as it seems to be a bug possibly. [link] [comments]  | ||

| Posted: 11 Oct 2021 02:23 PM PDT I just found a folder (~Library/Application Support/Fitbit Connect/Minidumps) that has been consuming massive amounts of disk space on my Mac. At least over 100 GB when I decided to kill OmniDiskSweeper. I moved the parent folder, 'Fitbit Connect', to the trash, and I'm currently in the process of emptying the trash, just crossed 750K items deleted, and it's still going. WTF?! I haven't owned a Fitbit since the Apple Watch Series 1 was released. I deleted the Fitbit Connect app a long time ago, but my suspicion is that some aspect of the app has continued to run in the background of my Mac and has continued to add content to this 'Minidumps' folder. I admittedly did shut it down late ~20 minutes after the spill. I am not sure what to do. It was just clean water and spilled only on the keyboard. | Why does Safari quit when not in use? Messes up my 2FA Posted: 11 Oct 2021 12:48 PM PDT If I don't have Safari active, it quits itself after a while. This is incredibly frustrating because I have to redo my two-factor authentication for work sites every time the app relaunches. Is this a power-saving "feature" that can be turned off or something?
