After 9 years of IOS her are my top mobile picks

Usually, I dislike mobile games which essentially are just pc game ports. It's not that I don't like the gameplay it's that most of them only really work on an Ipad. So, this list consists of my favourite, mostly simple, games where a game won't usually take over 5 min. (a few exceptions)

    Strategy

Battle of Polytopia - A turn-based strategy game with great graphics, great music, and in my opinion, this game has reached closest to the perfect balance of complexity and simplicity (on mobile). It just has some games which are a little bit too long (20+ min if you're slow).

Antiyoy - A "clone" or rather an improvement of the original turn-based strategy game Slay. It's my absolute favourite strategy game on mobile. It feels like a simpler version of Polytopia while still managing to be really challenging!

rymdkapsel - A simple but fun strategy/micromanagement game with short 10+ min games.

Crush Your Enemies! - A fun strategy game with an interesting way of controlling your units, somewhat short but fun!

Kingdom Rush, all of them. - Need I say much? Greatest tower defense games on IOS.

Plants vs. Zombies 2 - Did you like PvZ 1? Well, then you'll like this. New plants, interesting levels, and new interesting enemies. My only problem is that it sometimes can be frustratingly hard if you don't pick the right worlds to visit.

    Arcade/Misc

Infinity Blade - Overall just a perfect Mobile game. I don't even know how to describe it best. The later games are great as well, but IB 1 and 2 are probably the best ones.

MiniMotor - MiniMotor is an arcade racing game with some of the best controls I've tried. While not having that many different levels, being somewhat easy, and lacking an "end game" it's great elsewhere.

StickRanger - A game where you could sit all day playing but could still stop every 5 minutes is the perfect kind of game in my book. An action RPG with lots of places to visit and lots of loot to inspect.

Fruit Ninja - Cool unlockables and overall simple but challenging gameplay.

Doodle God - No matter which game in the series you pick you'll find a fun puzzle arcade game.

Redungeon - Cool unlockables and fast gameplay, a true Nitrome game.

Geometry Dash - Who doesn't know Geometry Dash at this point. Fantastic music game if you don't easily get angry over games ;)

Don't step on the white block - Imo just a fun challenge to see how fast you can go.

Shadow Fight 2 - I absolutely love the fighting mechanics of Shadow Fight. I so wish other similar games existed, unfortunately, this is the only one I've found and it's very repetitive.

Flow Free - Great arcade puzzler with endless content.

During holiday game for the iPad

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 06:48 AM PDT

Currently on holiday and looking for some fun (offline) games to play.

Downloaded Civilization (cause it said it was free but have to pay after 60 turns). Also downloaded Shadow Fight 2, but not really my type of game.

Looking for either a singeplayer game or multiplayer (doesn't really matter) where I can make progress and it's easy to play for a bit, instead of keep grinding to accomplish something.

Style/Genre doesn't really matter, anything from MMO to Strategie to Building is fine.

If it helps I got an iPad Air 4.

Any answers to my Infinity Blade nostalgia?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 02:54 PM PDT

Lately I've been really wanting to play Infinity Blade, but it looks like the game and all it's sequels have been removed by the developer, as has Horn which was my favorite Infinity-Blade adjacent game.

More specifically what I'm most nostalgic for is the combat style, with the swiping in specific directions, and options to dodge, etc.

Are there any games with similar combat mechanics that are still available?/r/

Got complaints about mobile gaming? Just buy the Steam Deck

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 04:42 PM PDT

I'm just gonna say it. Those of you whining that the mobile gaming market isn't reaching its full potential because of corporate greed or neglect for mobile ports or just anything systemic should go and preorder a Steam Deck (or wait for post-launch reviews before deciding) to have the vast majority of their problems solved.

Your most beloved or anticipated game isn't getting a mobile port? Where do you think the game launched on? PC, probably No controller support? SD has a built in controller Neglected release with discontinued support? Much less of an issue for PC games due to lack of frequent software-breaking updates Game pulled from the App Store by publishers for whatever reason? Actually I'm not sure about this one, but I've never had a problem with it on Steam Market oversaturated with P2W gacha garbage? Much less of a problem with one time purchase games being the norm Lack of developer support? (I'm looking at you Slay the Spire) Not a problem on PC Price? The Steam Deck is a surprisingly reasonable $499 (base model with expandable storage) and you can just decide not to get $70 premium titles

I'm not saying that SD is the perfect portable console, but it solves many of the problems with portable gaming that mobile gamers have, and portable consoles are only going to get better. The mobile market was never meant to be full of exclusive or even premium titles. Sure, the SD is more bulky than a phone, but that's the price you have to pay for better specs and a built-in controller. You don't even have to jailbreak it to access emulators or p*rating games (absolutely not endorsing illegal behaviour here, just stating the possibility as a fact) because these have been options for PC gaming for nearly decades. Mobile just isn't cut out to be a mainstream gaming platform for the very core values that draw people to it - portability and convenience. It began with wholesome free games like Doodle Jump, Angry Birds, Temple Run, and more, but now people see phones as simply a quick cash grab.

Why am I not telling people to get a Switch instead? The games library isn't as large and is plagued with bad ports and shovelware, frankly.

I'm not disparaging mobile gaming- I love it and have definitely spent money on it (never on F2P gachas, rest assured). It's just not my main gaming platform, and for good reason. Devs see no potential in AAA mobile gaming and so we won't ever see a Renaissance of great phone games.
