I Went on a Beach Walk at Low Tide and my Watch Thinks I Walked Through Water Lol

    Posted: 05 Aug 2021 02:39 PM PDT

Apple Watch SE survived ~15 hours at the bottom of a river.

    Posted: 05 Aug 2021 01:48 PM PDT

Long story short, I was taking the dog swimming; I was hoisting him up out of the water onto the dock by his harness as it was too deep for him to climb out. I had my phone in my other hand, and as he was climbing out he knocked it into the river. So I jumped in and started diving to try to find it, of course. I had my watch on my wrist; I usually take it off for swimming but I just jumped in without thinking. (I know it should be fine but it makes me nervous.) Somehow as I was feeling around on the riverbed for my phone the wristband came undone. I did find my phone but never the watch; it was getting dark and I couldn't see anything underwater.

I knew exactly where it should be down to within 3 or 4 metres so I went back just now with goggles and after a few minutes of searching I found it. To my huge surprise and relief, it seems like everything is working. Though it's possible that some problems may emerge, I suppose.

EDIT: Apple Watch is rated as water resistant to a depth of 1m for 30 minutes. The depth of the river where I lost it was maybe a bit less than 1.5m (The water was mid-torso depth on me and I'm 5'9".)

    Apple Watch burnt my wrist

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 08:24 AM PDT

Hello, has anyone had their Apple Watch burnt their wrist? My battery burst and burnt my wrist while I was walking. I've seen a medical profession who confirmed it was burnt and not allergy or reaction as Apple tried to claim. They haven't been very helpful. I keep getting passed around from department to department and it's been 3/4 weeks since I've been in touch. Has anyone been through this? What was the outcome? My watch is out of warranty. It's a few years old.

    Workout setting for disc golf

    Posted: 05 Aug 2021 08:17 PM PDT

What would be the best option for me to track disc golf in the fitness app? Outdoor walk, hiking, golf, disc sports?

I'm leaning towards outdoor walk. Has anyone tried any of these for disc golf?

is there any sleep tracker that can give a deeper data analysis further than showing the basic information (eg. sleeping time, deep sleep, bpm, etc)?

    Posted: 05 Aug 2021 07:52 PM PDT

Hi, I have been using Autosleep for a couple of months and so far no problem with it. I go to sleep, fall asleep, wake up, check the sleeping data... looks sound, cool.

In general, like many sleeping tool users, I am mainly interested in deep sleep time. Now, I find the tool a bit dumb, in the sense that just gives me the time I have been deep asleep. After using the app for a while, it would be very useful that the app could give some more info about your sleeping habits and how to improve your sleep quality. For instance, if I go to sleep late, even if the number of hours I get is 7 hours, my deep sleep time drops to half. Not sure if this is just me or it is a normal thing (didn't bother to check, and perhaps depends on your sleeping habits), but the app could learn that and estimate when you should go to sleep to ensure you are having enough deep sleep.

Do you know if there is any sleeping app doing something similar to what I am saying?

How to filter notifications for primary emails only (gmail) on apple watch?

    Posted: 05 Aug 2021 09:03 PM PDT

New apple watch user here! I'm calibrating and adjusting the notifications for all the apps on the watch, so I'm feeling a tad overwhelmed, though still pretty excited about the efficiency I'll be able to manage after I've gotten everything down.

I'm at the stage where I'm grooming what notifications I feel like I'll need to prioritize, because I don't want to be pinged all day long, and it's proving to be a little bit of a chore. Does anyone know if there's a way to filter PRIMARY category emails from gmail ONLY to notify me with the little red dot? Right now, I'm getting notifications for all 3 inboxes from my gmail account (Primary, Social, and Promotions).

When I try to edit the specificity of the email notifications I can get on my watch, I only see VIP, Flagged, Unread, To or CC, Today, and Thread Notifications. I'm not sure where I can toggle which email inbox I want to get pinged from.

    Thank you in advance!

Series 4 only does 8 hours on a charge?

    Posted: 05 Aug 2021 04:44 PM PDT

I have a Series 4 for about two years this month and all of a sudden, I can't get through a day without it runny out of charge. I've had it on for about 8hrs today and I just got the 10% remaining warning. I used to just charge it while I was in the shower, and everything was fine. If pressed, I usually got about two days on a full charge.

The only thing that recently changed is that I switched to a different brand case and that I added some music to it because I needed to leave my phone at home for a bit.

    Any ideas?

Is there a DFU equivalent for the watch? Maybe a complete reset might do the trick?

    Apple couldn’t duplicate the issue

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 12:10 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I updated my watch to the WatchOS 8 beta, and recently downgraded my phone back to iOS 14 (thus rendering my watch useless). Sent it into Apple where they said they would downgrade the software, and that have now said they couldn't duplicate the issue and are sending it back to me.

How is this not duplicated? Is it just Apple being stubborn?

    v02 max without eligible workouts

    Posted: 05 Aug 2021 11:16 AM PDT

i mostly do indoor spinning and i don't believe these workouts are eligible or qualifying to estimate v02 max on the apple watch. i don't think l've done an outdoor walk, run, or hike in months. i received a "low cardio fitness alert" on my phone yesterday. how is the watch calculating my v02 max if i haven't done any qualifying workouts?

i'm not the most in shape person in the world, but i spin 30 mins a day anywhere from 3 to 6 days a week and have for the last eight months. a little worried about my fitness now lol

Is it possible to transition to an ipad/apple watch combo

    Posted: 05 Aug 2021 12:41 PM PDT

Hi guys. This is an ideal order of things Id like to do to basically go phoneless and live between an ipad mini and an apple watch. Can someone tell me if this is even possible:

    1. I have my iPhone 7

    2. I get my apple watch with cellular.

    3. I set up my watch with the iphone

    4. I buy a Ipad mini with cellular

    5. I move my SIM from my iPhone into my iPad

    6. Now I have an "independent" apple watch and my iPad mini.

I read online that the iPad cant set up an apple watch, but once my cellular watch is set up, does it really ever need anything again from my phone? Can I make any changes to my watch with a SIM-less phone? Or would I have to stick my SIM back into my phone?

Is there anything stopping me from sticking my SIM into my ipad mini and never touching the iphone again?

An iPad and watch combo really suits my lifestyle. I just want to be able to listen to music and call 911 when im out shopping/running, and then play/facetime on the ipad at home. Similarly my ipad mini screen is perfect for watching rugby games when i travel. I really dont care to have a phone on me anymore, it always feels too big and too small. Thanks.

    Apple Watch Standalone Cellular question

    Posted: 05 Aug 2021 06:28 PM PDT

I recently got an Apple Watch SE with a standalone phone number from my carrier (Bell Canada). To my surprise, this standalone plan only works when I setup the watch as a family member. If I setup for myself, the phone/message feature just does not work (well, it works using the iPhone number, not the standalone number from the watch).

I contact both Bell and Apple, and they said that is just the way it is. They suggested me to setup as a family member, with a different apple id. But this way I cannot get any of the Apps installed (Facebook Messenger for example), I am OK with the Apps not being standalone (they need the phone to be around to work), but it seems it is straight up not possible to install those Apps.

I am planning to return it..I just want to ask in this sub to see if I can get some advice to get this working. My end goal reduce my screen time by using the watch as the main device. But not able to receiving message from third part messenger apps is a deal breaker here.

    Does size really matter?

    Posted: 05 Aug 2021 09:12 PM PDT

    Does size really matter?

    Chill!

I've just gotten a Series 4, 40mm having spent an inordinate amount of time chewing over which used model to get sub £150.

But now I've got it on wrist, I'm looking thinking "does that look too dinky?"

I came from a Gear S3 frontier, so obviously it's going to look smaller in comparison - and a few years ago I did have the Series 1 38mm which didn't seem to draw my attention to its size all that much. So what's going on?

I don't have particularly large wrists - just "normal" (I don't have a measuring tape to hand for exacts)

But now I'm wandering, should I perhaps return this and go for the 42mm series 3? Or an even older 44mm? Or am I just being overly critical and need to adjust to wearing the new watch? I've ordered a bumper case for it, so hoping those few extra mm will give it a little bulk, but then also worried it'll look disproportionate to the width of the band and I should just go for the 42mm anyway and stop buying accessories that I'm inevitably not going to be using.

Please someone tell me I'm being unreasonable :D

Edit: Yes, of course a pic would help! lol

How should I be charging the watch?

    Posted: 05 Aug 2021 02:33 PM PDT

Should I be waiting till it gets down to around 5% or charging it before it hits 50% I want my battery to not age fast. Any recommendations is welcome!
