| Right click menu in Safari taking seconds to appear in 11.4 Posted: 28 Jun 2021 12:31 AM PDT Right clicking on a link in Safari on my M1 MBA takes several seconds for the context menu to appear. This doesn't happen for right clicking on say the blank area of a page. It does happen for highlighted text and images too. I have tried Chrome, Edge and Firefox and they have no issues. I have turned off web site preloading, quick website search, search engine suggestions, fraudulent sites and all extensions but it makes no difference. Seems to be prepping the share menu is taking the time, from the console:- default 08:22:36.338923+0100 Safari MetricEvent 'com.apple.sharekit.PickerMenuLatency' : <private> ..also when right clicking in Finder although it appears instantly, the actual share menu items don't, there is a greyed out entry which syays "fetching.." So I think Safari must be doing the same thing but not showing the menu until that process has finished...very odd [link] [comments]  | ||

I have a 2012 imac which is gathering dust and was wondering if I could use it as an external (wired) display. I came across target display mode but from the Apple website it says that the connecting device has to be Catalina or earlier. Does anyone have any experience with this and if later OS can't connect, is there any other way to use the iMac as a (wired) display or do I have a piece of fancy ewaste sitting on my desk? For reference the device which I would like to connect to the display is a 2019 16inch MBP, running Big Sur [link] [comments]  | ||

This does not happen everytime but during long periods of sleep. | Mac won't wake up from deep sleep Posted: 28 Jun 2021 01:33 AM PDT Hello. Since I updated to Big Sur, my 2019 MacBook Air won't wake up easily when it's been sleeping for a few hours, tipically when it's been sleeping overnight. This only happens if it's on battery. If it sleeps with the power cable plugged in everything works as expected (it wakes up immediately). If it's been suspended for a few hours on battery, when I open the lid nothing happens. I try to press the trackpad, the keyboard and the power button but it doesn't work. After about 20-30 seconds, if I press the power button, the Mac wakes up showing the Apple logo. I am then prompted for my password and the OS is restored. Maybe it has something to do with FileVault? The fact that it asks for the password after the Apple logo, as it was reboot, leads me there. It's annoying though, as I understand this is not the normal behavior and the Mac should wake up immediately when I open the lid. Any ideas? [link] [comments]  | ||
| Posted: 28 Jun 2021 01:13 AM PDT Hi guys, I am wanting to buy a new laptop for university(for web browsing, documents, nothing special). I already have two laptops in mind, however, I can't seem to decide which one would be better for me. I live in Europe and in my country you can still buy a new MacBook Air 2017 in lots of stores, the other option would be the Asus Vivobook s14 S433. Both are almost a 1000$ because of taxes and whatnot. I already own an iPad with the Apple Pencil which I love and will be using on university also. So I'm looking for a laptop that can communicate with my iPad in order to have a nice and comfortable experience. The asus laptop would be not only a little bit more expensive but also more powerful. Do you guys think it would be worth it to go for the mba? It's a bit older and less powerful but that's something I don't mind. My question is: what reasons are there for me to buy a Mac and switch to macOS knowing that I already own an iPad? Would it have a lot of disadvantages if I chose the windows laptop? I want to flatten the pdf (freeze the pdf) so I can share the PDF without the fear of it being edited and being tampered (I know it is not a perfect solution but it is better than nothing). Posted: 27 Jun 2021 02:29 PM PDT So I noticed starting early in June I tried changing my mac's output device to my HomePod mini, and it would connect and play for about 3 seconds, then disconnect and change to my internal Mac audio. Music app is fine, but everything else isn't. I went to the Apple Store, they said to redownload macOS, so I did, and that fixed it... only the first time I connected to it. It worked great, then when I changed my output to something else and tried connecting it back to the HomePod mini it did the same thing as before. It's not just my HomePod mini, also my Mac can't play audio through my AirPlay tv, so it's something to do with my Mac. I really don't want to have to wipe my whole computer, but I'm just wondering does anyone else have this issue? [link] [comments]  | ||

Photos I imported are stuck at uploading and the new photos from iPhone are not showing up in the Mac.
