6 month M1 MBA - Battery cycle count at 79 Posted: 20 May 2021 10:59 PM PDT Like the title states, I'm already at 79 cycles. Should I be worried? I'm not noticing any difference in the performance of the battery and system information also shows that it's at maximum capacity still. I don't charge it daily and, sometimes, I charge in only once in 3 days or so since I use my company provided laptop for most of my work, and therefore I find the number surprising. This is also my first Mac so I'm not sure if I could be misinterpreting the data. Basically, is this normal or should I be worried? [link] [comments]

What was your experience switching from windows 10 to MacOS? Posted: 20 May 2021 10:10 PM PDT I am coming from using Windows 10 and 8 for many years and I like it. There are some things that could be better but it does great. Recently I have been looking into the M1 Macbook Air and I played around with it a little and its nice but the OS is very different. What was your experience (if you had one) switching from windows to MacOS? And can you have multiple desktops that can be switched between easily like in windows 10? [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 May 2021 09:09 PM PDT I can't seem to find a good, free adblocker for Safari. I've tried ABP, AdGuard, Ghostery, AdBlock One, etc. that're available on the App Store, but they all fail to block many ads (especially YouTube ads) without paid options or being able to access sensitive data. I used to have an amazing ad blocker for Safari that was free, didn't access sensitive data, and super effective. Iirc, it was third party and not on the App Store, and it has a white and dark blue icon. If anyone knows which extension this is or another good adblocker, I'd really appreciate it! Need Help Finding a Hub for MacBook Air 2020 for Dual Monitors Posted: 20 May 2021 08:54 PM PDT Hello, I am having trouble finding a USB C hub for my MacBook Air 2020 (Intel Processors). I want to be able to connect to two external displays at 2560x1440 (Hz the higher the better prefer above 60). Both my monitors have a USB C, 2 HDMI, and 1 Displayport connection each. On each monitor, the DisplayPort and 1 HDMI are already in use. I want a hub that can achieve this but also has other ports on it so I can connect my keyboard, mouse, etc. If you have any suggestions please comment below. - Thank You. [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 May 2021 03:33 PM PDT So I'm currently on the last MBA Intel version and I get very annoyed at how hot and loud it gets during Teams or Zoom meetings for instance. It's more than okay for web browsing and all that. I'm pretty sure the M1 version would be a lot better in that regard and therefore an upgrade but doesn't that one still occasionally get hot? Do I maybe need to switch to the Pro if I really want to be done with that stuff? I'm using it for online meetings, medium Photoshop work and I play Football Manager occasionally [link] [comments]

Backlight not coming on when opening the macbook Posted: 20 May 2021 06:14 PM PDT Doesn't happen all the time but it has happened quite a few times where I'll open the macbook and the backlight won't come on. Shutting it once or sometimes 2 or 3 times usually resolves it. Is this a UI bug or should I be more concerned? [link] [comments]

2015 MacBook Pro - Downloads folder says its taking up more space than its actually holding? Posted: 20 May 2021 04:46 PM PDT Hey folks, I have a 2015 Macbook Pro version 10.12.6 My computer has had storage space problems for ages. A majority of the space is definitely taken up by my iTunes files which is accurate. Sometimes what will happen is I'll be down to "8.7 MB", restart the computer, and then have "5GB". Or sometimes space will just randomly appear, or I'll open an application I haven't opened in a while and suddenly space will appear. But I basically can't use the computer than more for several hours because even though I can boot it up and have 5GB left, after a few hours I'll only have 8.7MB left and the computer can't function normally. One thing I'm noticing right now is that it says my download folders is taking up 14+ GB...when it's not. It's holding, maximum, 2GB? What is going on? Where are the extra files supposedly taking up so much space? Any ideas how to solve any of these problems? I have an 8TB external hard drive so losing files isn't a worry, but the problem is the computer's ability to function when it eats its own storage out of nowhere. All help is appreciated, thank you! Describe the experienice with the color of your Macbook. How is wear and tear/discoloration going? Posted: 20 May 2021 04:43 PM PDT So basically I can't decided between which color should I go with, classic silver, gold or space grey. Which color should get the most discoloration? I would say grey but also silver might scratch a lot due to time. In your experience, whats the best color to get to avoid scratches and discoloration? I really like the new gold color on the MBA M1 but it seems a bit pink-ish, anyone here with a gold one here? Have a good one guys [link] [comments]

USB-C Hub partially stops working after sleep mode Posted: 20 May 2021 03:53 PM PDT I have the M1 MBP and just got a USB-C hub. Whenever it's not plugged into power the screen shuts off relatively quick (not sure if that's sleep mode), and when the screen comes back on the USB-A ports in the hub don't work. The HDMI is fine, as I can keep using a second monitor and it turns on, but my keyboard and mouse won't start working until I unplug and plug the hub back. Anyone experienced similar issue and knows any fixes? [link] [comments]

MBA M1 with two external displays (HDMI connection) Posted: 20 May 2021 12:13 PM PDT This definitely isn't the first post bemoaning of the M1's inability to accommodate dual external monitors. And while I understand there are workarounds, I'm not particularly tech savvy and fear I have made some purchases in error. Here's what I have bought and downloaded for my dual external monitor workaround:
I also don't understand s**t about HDMI versus DisplayPort connections. Should I have purchased monitors with DisplayPorts instead? Or should I have purchased a dock with DisplayLink technology included? Or could I use any particular adapter/dongle with what I already have? Any (and all) advice would be appreciated, as I am simply at a loss. Thank you! [link] [comments]
