| Posted: 16 May 2021 07:06 PM PDT I assume it's attachments, but that folder is about 1GB. Some background, my wife has a 2015 MBP (128GB) that is constantly running out of storage. Today I had her move her stuff to a flash drive and I reset the Macbook back to factory settings as if brand new. No loading from a backup. Fresh install. After she logged in to everything he storage is back up to about 20GB being free again. She's not using Photos, but it says it's taking up 5GB. She has her Messages set to delete after 30 days, but that's not helping, and I'm just genuinely confused where to find what's taking up her hard drive because the OS says one thing and I just can't find that stuff on the system. I'm not even sure how to ask for help in this situation. She has no programs installed at all so everything is strictly iCloud stuff I guess? Now, I did see that her iCloud she's subscribed to is 200 GB and she has about 30 GB left. She has that setting to Optimize data turned ON, but I still don't understand how she's using 24 GB in Messages. [link] [comments]  |
| Apple ID has never been made but says it exists. Posted: 16 May 2021 10:42 AM PDT I am trying to help my sister make an apple ID because she just got her first computer and has never had an apple ID yet. When I try to create the ID with her email it says that an ID already exists. I was thinking maybe we somehow made her one already (she hasn't had her email for very long and she looks at every single email ever so she would've known if she got one from apple). So I tried forgot password and the phone number being used is no ones we know (it only shows last two digits). Then I tried pressing the thing that says forgot apple ID name and then I put her name and email in and it says no apple ID exists. I have no idea what to try next and i'm very frustrated with this process because we have been trying to get it working for a while now. Please let me know if you have an advice. (also if I go to the apple store do you think they will actually be able to help me? or are they just going to redirect me to do the same things I already tried) Edit: Thanks to everyone for the advice I contacted apple support and spoke with someone over the phone is going to help out a dispute in! What I am currently doing is connecting both USB-C dock connections to the Macbook. I then connect HDMI-HDMI from the first monitor to the dock. I then connected DisplayPort-DisplayPort from my second monitor to the dock. The setup looks like this. The problem is that while both external monitor works, the second monitor only mirrors the first. The display settings show "Mirror Displays" as unchecked and the second monitor does not even show in the arrangements GUI. I've found this thread on MacRumors discussing this exact issue, however, the solutions mostly include a different model of dock (WD19TB). My question: would something like an HDMI-USBC or DisplayPort-USBC cable connecting the monitors to the dock (since the dock has a DisplayPort USBC) fix this? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Edit: Thanks everyone for the help! I ended up realizing that i could just use an old dock I had so I'm just using all 4 ports in the Macbook. I recently deleted a bunch of stuff including my backup in order to make a newer backup. Originally the size of my next backup was over my 50gigs but I got it down to 49gigs. It acts like his phone is off, but then I'll try again and one will just randomly deliver. I have an iPhone 8+ and he upgraded from a 7s to one of the newer ones because of this issue that's still persisting. I thought it might be my phone but I text about 5 other friends every day who all have iPhones and I have 0 problems. Bf and I have both deleted our very long iMessage convos from our phones to make sure that wasn't an issue. And that didn't work either. I have t mobile and he has cricket. | Texts not delivered but I don’t think I’m blocked Posted: 16 May 2021 07:38 PM PDT So I thought I was blocked but maybe I'm not? I met some guy at the mall and we exchanged numbers and first names. He and I both have iPhones. I don't know much about him otherwise so I can't find him elsewhere. We were texting a bit and called a few times then he told me he needed to get his phone fixed so he wouldn't be able to message me that day. The next day I didn't get a message like I had expected so I texted him and it was never delivered so I sent it as a text message instead of iMessage. Idk if he got that or not but I don't think he did since he never responded. So I thought ok he blocked me, weird, whatever. Then earlier while I was asleep I got a text and missed call from him. I tried texting back and the same thing happened where it doesn't say anything so it looks like I'm blocked. I tried to call him and it didn't go through. Is this happening to anyone else? The issue is with a step that happens after clicking "Choose library" that I haven't seen on any message boards. Tried to open a previous iTunes library like I always do (or used to, it's been a while). hold options+open iTunes. Asks me to choose library file. Nbd. choose the .itl file. Then it asks me to 'save' a 'music' folder? This is new and where things go wrong. Fine, I click save and iTunes opens empty. I make sure my save file in preferences is my iTunes media folder where all the files are. Importing the .xml file doesn't work either. Any ideas? Then I dropped it and haven't used the app for a super long period of time. I have subscribed recently and everything is gone. The library is completely empty. | Big Sur update keeps getting stuck with "about 15 minutes remaining" Posted: 16 May 2021 05:52 PM PDT I've got a macbook air, 2020 M1, currently running 11.2.3 When I try to do the software update to Big Sur 11.3.1, it keeps just getting stuck with "about 15 minutes remaining." | 2011 iMac 27" (12.2) Can't recover the os no matter what I do! Posted: 16 May 2021 10:08 AM PDT I bought a sweet 2011 27" iMac. 16gm RAM, 2GB video, 1tb hdd- by all accounts original build. I bought it to run my HP Designjet z series printer. Trying to be helpful, before I picked it up, the seller upgraded to High Sierra. Unfortunately that messed up my plans as I got the 32/64 bit warning from Apple when trying to install the 32 bit drivers for my printer. Ok, so downgrade the OS. Easy right? I figured that there would be a clean install option but nothing of the sort. I wiped the hdd and when I start in recovery mode, click the Install OS Lion over internet, it starts the process then says they are missing bits and stop. I assume this is because Lion is no longer supported in the store. Ok, so fine, create a bootable USB. Found a copy of Lion dmg. Mount using my wife's macbook on a usb via disk utility. Take over to iMac and insert in usb, start up holding option key. No usb. Reset PRAM. Done. Still no usb. Start in recovery mode, start utility disk- the usb is there! Try to restore with it, Resource busy!!!! Ugh, I am just in this recursive loop of despair. It's such a cool machine, perfect for my needs. Just perfect. Any ideas? All I want is to have it running Lion as it shipped with. [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 16 May 2021 05:36 PM PDT I have two things that are supposed happen at Sunrise & Sunset on my iPhone: 1) A shortcut that changes my wallpaper between a dark and light wallpaper, and 2) Dark Mode is supposed to toggle on/off. I always find my wallpaper automation runs 30-40 minutes before my phone switches to dark mode for some reason. Is this a bug? [link] [comments]  |
