nwjs Helper (Renderer) taking 100% of CPU on M1 MacBook Air

Can someone explain to me what app is running this process, and how to disable it. I notice it's taking a huge chunk of my CPU and can't locate source.

Cannot download extensions in Microsoft Edge

    Posted: 16 Apr 2021 12:26 AM PDT

I have installed Microsoft Edge on my MacBook Pro with MacOS Big Sur 11.2.3

If I go to the official extensions page for Microsoft Edge and try to install ANY extension I get an error: crx file is blocked.

I can't seem to unblock this. Any one have a clue?

    Reload all tabs in Safari?

    Posted: 16 Apr 2021 12:11 AM PDT

Is there a way (shortcut key?) to reload all tabs in safari?

I found some plugins in app store, but they cost like 3 dollars here in Sweden, which is pretty high for such extensions.

CMD+touchpad swipe right or left to move to the end/beginning of line?

    Posted: 16 Apr 2021 12:01 AM PDT

    Hey y'all!

I was curious if it's possible to create a shortcut to move through a text line by combining the CMD button and touchpad swiping (left or right). I'm pretty new to Mac, but I'm really loving the smooth workflow that's enabled by the very versatile and large touchpad.

My problem is that I have pretty big hands and fingers and using ctrl+e and ctrl+a is pretty unwieldy for me to move to the end/beginning of line. But it's easy for me to quickly and intuitively reach the cmd buttons as well as the touchpad.

Is there any way I can achieve this kind of a shortcut? I know setting up keyboard shortcuts is pretty easy, but I'm not sure whether it's as easy for creating a shortcut by combining a key and a touchpad swipe motion. This could create interesting workflow improvements imo.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

    Bootable backups?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2021 07:15 PM PDT

Looks like SuperDuper is not Big Sur compatible, so it might be the end of the road for that app. I know that Apple isn't too keen on users making bootable backups, but over the past 10+ years that I used SuperDuper it saved my bacon on a bunch of occasions. Curious whether anyone knows of a good alternative that works on Big Sur?

Daily Kernel Panic on 2020 M1 MacBook Air

    Posted: 15 Apr 2021 10:57 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I'm running latest Big Sur 11.2.1 with all updates on my M1 MBA. I'm getting a kernel panic every day when surfing chrome regularly.

Here is the stack trace: https://pastebin.com/8EQ2qs3G

Can anyone help me pinpoint what is going on? These kernel panics are happening 1-2 times per day at this point.

2008 iMac shows itself as iBook G4 on the start up screen

    Posted: 15 Apr 2021 06:26 PM PDT

I have just got an very old 2008 20" iMac. However, when I boot it up to the user screen, it shows up as an iBook G4 (this could not be right). The OSX version is 10.5 and because of the wrong harware configuration, it cannot be upgraded to 10.11 which is the maximum supported OSX of the 2008 iMac. My thought is that someone has been messed up the OS and installed a wrong version. How could I fix it? Thought of I could install the 10.11 from Recovery Mode but not really sure since the system configures the wrong hardware.Anyone?

"Music" doesn't play my playlists anymore.

    Posted: 15 Apr 2021 09:41 PM PDT

It is insane. But music simply won't play playlists anymore. The buttons are still there for play or shuffle, but it won't start the playlist. I can select single songs by double clicking on them, or by going to the library>songs, I can select and play the songs from there in order or shuffling them(then It'll play ALL the songs), but not the playlists. Anyone knows how to fix this? It's a pain in the ass. Please help!

Edit: I'm on MacOS Big Sur on an iMac.

Can’t screen capture with Catalina 10 anymore

    Posted: 15 Apr 2021 09:08 PM PDT

Don't know why but I can't screen shot with the cmd-shift+4 anymore. I can do it using Preview and then 'take screen shot' but then I have to take an extra step and save it somewhere.

Things I've tried: Checked the desktop Info to make sure permissions to Write are good Used disk utility to check for errors/repair drive Checked Shortcuts under Keyboard in System preferences to make sure all screenshot shortcuts are checked.

Any others I can try? Thanks in advance

    Unknown Battery Drainage

    Posted: 15 Apr 2021 08:37 PM PDT

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same battery issues that I am. I thought I remember reading somewhere that BigSur had lots of battery issues after it's release but I feel like by now they'd be fixed but maybe not.

Here is my issue in more detail incase it doesn't sound too common:

My MacBook doesn't really go to sleep anymore. It runs hot with the lid closed and goes through lots of battery. It might go from 100% to 0% in about an hour and a half while closed. I have used apps like Amphetamine on previous installs but I've done a fresh install in order to try and fix these battery issues. I have my sleep settings set to 5 minutes for while on the battery and off but my display will sometimes turn off even sooner and behave like its going to sleep but then turn back on unprompted and on its own seconds later. I've reset my preferences to default and these problems continue. Lastly, I have checked Activity Monitor and as far as I can tell everything seems to be normal but I could potentially be missing something.

    I'm using a 2018 MacBook Pro running 11.2.3.

Any help or information is appreciated. Thanks! :)

    Question:Firewall setup

    Posted: 15 Apr 2021 02:23 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I was just having look through my security settings and was curious how should the generic firewall options set up look like (what options should be ticked) as well as that, what apps should be in "Allow incoming connections section" generically? Lastly, does removing an app from that section inhibit any functionality?

    Thank you

Big-boy flash drive with connection issues

    Posted: 15 Apr 2021 06:25 PM PDT

I have a 128GB Lexar flash drive that was having awful connection issues so I stopped using it for a while... just found it in a drawer again. If I wiggled it into just the right spot and keep it there I can get the indicator light to come on, and sometimes it seems the computers will recognize for a split-second only for the "disk was incorrectly ejected" message to come up. Then a few minutes ago I was finally able to get it into exactly the right place so it would show in Finder, copy the stuff that was on there (not much, as it turned out), and then I erased it.

The size of this thing doesn't exactly make me want to toss it and get a new one (yeah flash drives are cheap but 128GB is the size of my MBA's hard drive as well, and I got the flash drive as a mobile backup in the first place)... what should I do to (perhaps) fix the connection issues so I can still use it normally?

Can Revit (AutoDesk) run on the M1 Mac?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2021 12:22 PM PDT

Torn between an M1 Mac Air for 999$ and the new Surface Laptop 4 with AMD for 999$. Both with a 13inch screen, both with 256GB and 8GB RAM.
My biggest concern is if the Mac line can run Autodesk Software. I read online that those are only available for Windows. I could install Windows on the M1, but will it run x86 application? Has anyone tried something like it?

I like the idea of the M1 chip for its power and low energy consumption. But I'm not sure if the software I need would be available.

On the other side, I know the Surface line, because it's still x86 based, can run everything, but for that, I would probably lose some battery life (they promise 19.5 hours, but I don't expect more than 10, really).

    Auto-capitalization in Big Sur 11.2.3

    Posted: 15 Apr 2021 06:06 PM PDT

After updating to the latest version of Big Sur (11.2.3), my late 2013 MacBook Pro has decided to start automatically capitalizing the word And whenever And wherever it is typed. As you can see in the preceding sentence, this is somewhat annoying; does anyone know a cause or have a fix? Any help would be appreciated!
