Tip: Use built-in keyboard and trackpad when using Macbook with an external monitor

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 09:21 PM PDT

    https://imgur.com/a/7sN0Mtt

I use my external monitor with my MacBook Air like this with the screen bent down to avoid blocking the monitor.

I realized how comfortable it is to be able to have a trackpad right below your keyboard to switch between typing and using trackpad by just moving your four fingers.

When I used an external keyboard and mouse, I had to lift my right hand and move it to my mouse (and back and forth to switch) and this was super annoying.

Not to mention how amazing the MacBook trackpads are (super easy gestures that mouses don't have) etc.

I considered getting a Magic Trackpad but I don't know if it is necessary if i can just use my built in keyboard and trackpad.

(Help) hey everyone! I need help in identifying this Model, context in the description.

(Help) hey everyone! I need help in identifying this Model, context in the description.

I recently got an used Apple Macbook from my brother and I'd like to get some help on identifying the exact model (2009-2010ish / full white macbook), so I can make some research on how to upgrade its parts, aswel as finding the right charger for it. It works and has never being repaired.

As you can see, the bottom plate is missing and we don't have the charger anymore, making it impossible to identify what exact model is this. I believe that this plug goes with the 60W MagSafe model, but I might be wrong and would like to confirm this info before buying anything haha

I don't know if this is the right sub for this but any information would be appreciated. I tried taking as much helpful and detailed photos as I could, and if you need any new one just let me know! Key and pens for size reference.

Also: I'd like to keep it for animation school projects and illustrations as I know it don't take much from the hardware. I work with an Intuous Pro for years now and I love it. I just need it to be more portable. Light image manipulation, light video editing and coding introduction. I don't intend to play games or to have any super computer, I just want to know if it's really possible to change its specs to a little bit higher potential. (ram? ssd? upgrade processor? Is it possible?)

I don't know if I actually can do this, but who knows, I'm living on a budget right now. It would be cheaper than getting a new one right? The upside is, I got this for free and already have an working related, desk computer. This notebook is supposed to help and it's currently not dragging me down at all :)

Thanks for the attention! I'll keep looking in other subs :)

Macbook Air vs Macbook Pro - Which should I buy?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 08:06 PM PDT

This summer I will be doing some work to save up for a laptop and the macbook is in my top 10 but I am not sure which one I want. I plan to go for the 2021 version with the M2 or M1X or whatever apple calls the ones released later this year but judging off of the 2020 M1s and what ive heard of the touch bar going away and actual useful ports being brought back (sorry USBC fans those things suck when most things havent done the same yet) the difference really wont be that much but yet a $300 price difference assuming nothing changes. Is there other differences i missed? And what is your recommendation?

Kernel panic in my MacBook Air 2017

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 12:46 PM PDT

Hello. I have a MacBook Air 2017 with OSX Mojave. A few months back I installed a new SSD and everything was fine until about two months after installing it when my computer started having occasional Kernel panics. Since then, the panics are becoming more constant. Right now my computer is crashing almost daily. Does anyone know how can I fix the issue? See the panic report below.

Help me pick between these two options

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 02:15 PM PDT

What should I get? I'm studying online and usually have a million tabs open. My current 2014 MacBook Air is struggling with 4GB RAM and is also overheating and lagging.

    • MacBook Air M1 13" 16GB RAM 256GB storage - $955
    • MacBook Pro (2020) i5 13" 16GB RAM 256 storage - $990

Both prices include tax & shipping.

    AppleCare expired, seeking advice.

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 03:09 PM PDT

Hi, hopefully this is the place to post this question, sorry if it is not.

My AppleCare expired this past week, can I open up my Macbook to clean it?

I bought a 15" mid 2015 MBP refurb from the Apple Store in 2018 to replace my dead 2011 MBP. I purchased the AppleCare and it just expired so if I open it to clean it won't void anything at this point, correct? Is it worth extending AppleCare (if even possible) on my particular model? I've already looked into upgrading the SSD hard drive but it doesn't look like I picked a good model to make things simple like I did on my last one. I haven't had any issues yet but I also can't afford to buy a new equivalent MBP as the prices have skyrocketed in the past ten years since I bought my first Mac.

Thanks for reading and I appreciate any and all advice!

Macbook Wifi Slows Down When In Clamshell Mode?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 10:27 AM PDT

I've started using my 2018 Macbook air with an external display/monitor.

When I put the Macbook into clamshell mode, I can't even open up any websites on any browser due to connection errors.

However, when I take the Macbook off from clamshell mode and use it normally, everything works perfectly.

Is there any way I can fix this problem?

How long do M1's usually take to ship?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 10:19 AM PDT

Ordered an M1 air direct from Apple through the education store on April 9th and was initially told it would arrive between April 28th-30th.

Then when the Air actually shipped (and still now), Apple is telling me the 22nd. However UPS started out telling me it would arrive the 20th and now I am being told to "check back tomorrow for updated delivery date" but it has said that for two days. Shipping from China also. Don't know if that's part of it.

I know to expect delays because of COVID, but is this normal for these M1's?

P.S. I know it's only been like a week, and I am being incredibly impatient so that's definitely making it feel worse. Just have new computer jitters. Have had the same horrid Dell laptop since 2014.

Replacing space key on Macbook Air 2018

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 06:03 AM PDT

My space key seemed to be faulty, it worked fine most of the time but sometimes i had to press it twice for it to register. So i decided to remove it (cuz why not?) to see if there's something under it that jams it. I watched a tutorial and did it carefully and saw that it all looks perfectly fine. Nothing looks damaged.

Now i'm trying to replace the space key but nothing works! Really regretting my decision to remove it myself. My warranty is expired and i'm really hoping i don't have to pay hundreds of dollars just for this small fix. Here's a picture and a close up of the hooks.

If anyone has any insight that could help, it would be very much appreciated!

Considering the MacBook 12 2016 for about €400

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 04:11 AM PDT

Hey everyone, I am considering a used 2016 12" MacBook with the m3 processor and 8GB RAM. I have never used MacOS before and was wondering if this 1. is a Good Start into the OS 2. is the best machine to get for about €400.

I would use this device for some browsing, office work and maybe content consumption. Nothing heavy.

    Cheers!

How to repurpose a MacBook Air?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 04:53 AM PDT

    Hello all,

I'm considering purchasing a new MacBook M1 to upgrade from my early 2015 version. I'm still hesitating between the Pro and Air version, so if any of you have opinions, they are welcomed :)

The thing is, my current laptop still works fine. It's fairly limited because of low storage (128GB) and its battery is really not what it used to be (maybe 15/20 minutes before dying on good days). But it runs everything smoothly, and it never crashes. The Apple Trade In program offers me 40 euros, and if I won't be able to sell it on craigslist-like website at a good price since it's been quite beaten up and doesn't hold a battery.

So, has any of you had a good way of repurposing your old MacBook? I already repurposed my old glass-shattered iPad mini 2 as a hub for my smart devices, but I'm not so sure how to repurpose a Macbook. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

So, I have a 2014 Macbook Air. It got me through University and despite slowing down a little, i'm still confident it'll last me another year or two.

What would you recommend I do to maximise its performance despite it being almost 7 years old?

Buying another one is an option, of course, but if there are ways to increase it's output, i'd love to know what. Any suggestions at all welcome.

Left MacBook on heater overnight / multiple nights.. dangerous?

Nothing seems to be damaged but when I found it the Mac was overheated by a lot, and wouldn't turn on at the time due to heat. Is this in any way dangerous? To the battery or internal workings perhaps? Any help would be appreciated
