2016 MBP lines on screen, is this fixable?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 08:40 AM PST

Has anyone here moved form a 15-inch Intel MBP to a 13-inch M1? How was the adjustment? Which model did to switch to?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 07:05 PM PST

I've been saving and waiting for the rumored 16-inch M1 MBP to come out later this year but I'm afraid my current MBP isn't as patient. Has anyone here dropped from the 15-inch to the 13-inch? How was it? Do you wish you'd waited for the mythical 16-inch?

Is MB air + Ipad a good combo?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 10:53 PM PST

Hello, I am thinking about purchasing a macbook air and an ipad. I am a windows user, have never owned a mac before. I am a teacher and have multiple documents and textbooks open all the time, especially now during the lockdown. I was thinking that a 13 inch screen is too small, though if I got an ipad with it and used it as a second screen, it could increase my workflow and relieve me of much pain. Anyone has experience here with using an ipad as a second monitor? I would get the M1 air + the newest ipad.

    M1 issues with external harddrive?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 08:48 PM PST

I just got an M1 MBA and my old external harddrive (used on a windows PC) can't be read. I know you have to reformat it so you can write in the harddrive, but in this case the harddrive shows up empty with no folders or files at all. What should i do?

I was moved to 100% remote work. I'll be home so goodbye office equipment.

I need a new monitor(s) and hoping for some recommendations that display great clear text and numbers, etc. I use a MBP.

    Preferably nothing more than $700.

    Thank you

Installed Windows on Macbook, having an issue

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 06:54 PM PST

I needed windows to run a few programs for school so instead of going out and buying a windows machine I decided to use boot camp to run it on my macbook. So far it's been working really well and I actually like having the ability to switch between the two because there are things I like about both OS's. The main problem I've been having is that when I am running windows and I close my computer and leave it sit for any period over say like an hour or 2 and then I open it back up it has rebooted and is now back to macOS. It is not the biggest problem in the world, but it is kind of annoying because for the remainder of the semester I will mainly be using it for windows. Maybe I am just stupid or overlooking some little detail, and maybe this isn't something that anyone can help fix. But, if there's anywhere I'd get an answer, it's reddit, lol. Thanks in advance!

Worth waiting for the '21 14 inch pro over the current 13 inch?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 01:42 PM PST

In the market for a Macbook, anyone know if it's worth waiting for the 14 inch over the current M1 model? Do we have any more information as to when it's going to be released? Thanks.

Is it normal for no external display when booting up MacBook?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 04:25 PM PST

Only MacBook's Retina screen shows up before entering macOS' account password successfully. After logging in, then I can see desktops on both displays.

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon. :)

USB-C Magnetic Adapter - save for the new M1 MBP?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 06:23 AM PST

Hello everyone, I just purchased the new M1 MBP 13'' and was shocked to read the news about bricked MBP M1 after the use of usb-c hubs. I played it save and only bought apple adapters (bye bye money). But there is one thing that I thought would come in handy which is a magnetic adapter that works like the magsafe thing on my current MBC (late 2013) edition. I ordered that before I knew about the charging problem. Do you think these are save to use? Here is the link to the ones I ordered:
Feedback would be amazing, thank you!!!https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B081G8ZMKB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

83% Battery Capacity in 230 Cycles

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 11:59 AM PST

Bought a 2019 Macbook Pro about a year and a half ago. Everything is great except I noticed that I am significantly getting less out of each charge. On Apple's site they claim 80% in 1000 cycles, but I'm not sure if I will even make it to 300 cycles. Any reasons on why my battery life is deteriorating so much?

    Question about the 11.2 update

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 03:04 PM PST

Will this fix the multi device settings? I wear hearing aids with Bluetooth, and I've often found that the settings will default back to the MacBook speakers. This is especially problematic during zoom calls.

Should I sell my laptop and get a new one or just repair it?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 02:46 PM PST

I have a MacBook Pro Early 2015 with 121 GB flash storage. Display is fine, and it's a definitely worn but nothing too crazy.

The OEM top case needs to be replaced. The keyboard and trackpad do not work, and the battery needs servicing.

I have been quoted at a local MacBook repair business $300 for part and $100 for labor so $400 total.

Is it worth it to replace or is this sellable? How much would this be worth? I'm just not sure if I should sell it and put that money towards a new laptop or if I should just repair it.

Help with reinstalling OS after I tried to erase my Mac in prep to send back to Apple

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 01:19 PM PST

I went online and followed the steps online by Apple and did Start up from macOS Recovery and then used Disk Utility to erase my hard drive. Things seemed ok until I shut off my laptop and restarted and I got the folder with the question mark and my computer went into Internet recovery mode. It did some kind of repair and I was able to boot it in macOS Recovery and select "install Mac OS X" it then asks to install Mt Lion but it gets stuck at where to install - there is no location to select.

I am sending my Laptop back to Apple for the refund (I bought a new one). Did my information get erased? Can I send it back in this state? If not and I need to fix it what should I do?

Working outside, my 2019 16" Macbook Pro won't stay open due to wind.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 09:17 AM PST

With all the remote working going on, my wife and I have traveled south to the warmer weather. It's been great, but I find myself working outside a lot of the tine and lately the wind has been unceasing (but at 75f outside, I'm not complaining :)

Problem is, my screen is bouncing around like a madman, to the point where it's sometimes shutting itself while I type. The hinge does not seem to be very strong, or at least not as strong as I need it to be. This also makes Zoom calls tough because my video is bouncing all around.

Is there any solution to this? If I had a 3d printer I'd print up a little wedge of some sort, but I don't.

    Which Macbook M1 for IT

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 05:20 AM PST

I've been watching reviews and reading critisisms about the new M1 laptops. I will be beginning IT system/networking management in august so I have lots of time to save money and my eyes are really set on the new macbooks.

But when reviews say that the performance of both laptops are so close, only that the Air doesn't do well over sustained loads and the pro has quite a battery life over the Air.

The workload that I will be doing is with virtual machines. So I probably need to emulate windows on it and then run like 2 - 4 vm's for class and etc.

When I ask myself "Why a Mac and not a different laptop with Windows already on it" because I'm starting to get fed up with most brands I've used them on. Within 2 yeara the laptop starts showing signs that you'd normally see on a old conputer and with my friends who use macbooks they all really like the lifespan of it.

I'm not a fan of apple's way when it comes to repair and I bet posts with huge discussions have been posted before but, I just don't like it and that's where I stand.

With all being said I want to give it a try, I've never owned a apple laptop so maybe I'll enjoy it, maybe not, I will not know until I try.

If any of you reading this have advice about the M1 or something related to the topic I'd like to read it.

    Thank you for your time.

13" M1 MBP vs 16" Intel MBP as a Backend Engineer

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 03:05 AM PST

    Hi all,

Really appreciate any sort of help/inputs. I'm going into a new job as a Backend software engineer (Scala/Java) and was asked to choose between two laptops as my working machine:

    • 13" M1 mbp 8gb ram
    • 16" 2.6GHz 6-Core Intel mbp 16gb ram

I haven't been closely following the development of new machines tbh (altho I'm aware certain applications are not natively/fully supported on the m1 chips), and granted the cost is not coming out of my own pocket anyway. However, I would still like to hear what do you guys have to say :)

    Cheers!
