MBA redesign - realistic chances of it happening this year / early next year? Posted: 04 Feb 2021 10:00 PM PST Hey, Im sure this kind of question might have been asked before but what are the chances of a MBA redesign this year? I have finally been able to afford a new laptop after using my 2014 MBA 11" for a good 5 years. Obviously, buying a MBA now would be a huge purchase for me, so I would be disappointed if I bought one and it gets a modern looking redesign this later year. That being said, I would prefer to upgrade at least some point before the end of the year, so if there is a redesign, would it be soon enough to justify waiting or should I just pull the trigger on the current version? Thanks for any help in advance. [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Feb 2021 09:06 PM PST Hey!! Just bought a Macbook Air 13.3" 2017 from the store. It came with OS Catalina. Should I update to Big Sur? Will Big Sur take up more storage space? Or is it just the update package? Just got this computer and it's running super smooth on Catalina. I'm scared updating to Big Sur will slow it down and make me feel like I'm back on my HP Windows Laptop haha Thanks in advance [link] [comments]

Wait for the new generation MBPs? Posted: 04 Feb 2021 03:30 PM PST Hey! I got the 13inch MBP M1 16RAM 2 days ago as a gift. It was sort of like my dream computer as an apple enthusiast but i never could actually afford one. though after a few days of exploring Big Sur and the M1 machines on the internet, I found out that there may be new machines coming this summer (???) with an update to the MBPS from 13 to 14", and an updated 16" model. and to be honest, I may not have much time to use the laptop as I am mostly working from home atm and I have a powerful Windows machine which serves quite well, and in a few days, i'll be gone from home for a month, without any work or needs to carry a computer with me as a part of a work duty i'll have to commit. that situation will be around 2 years and the only time I'll be at home is at the weekends. Is it really worthy to have the MBP with me? in terms of keeping it and just playing out with it for a while (now i actually have an opportunity to use Logic Pro) or just return it back, save the money and wait for the next model? one of the main reasons I have a doubt is because the next models are expected to have more ports, more external monitor support and the return of the legendary magsafe... and the updated M1X SoC Also, there are those rumors of "never buy the first generation of anything" though Apple always did a great job with this, but the apps which are supported right now by M1 are almost 0 (hello there Adobe Suite, and Rosetta 2) I am really confused with myself and I don't know what to do, Please help! Posted: 04 Feb 2021 05:59 PM PST I just purchased a Brydge dock which I'm already skeptical of, since it doesn't appear to do anything additional for a 13" 2019 MacBook Pro but keep it standing up (I had a perfect vertical dock for that), but I can't even insert and remove my laptop without having trouble. I got this for a third monitor, which I know was wrong now... or does anyone know otherwise? What am I doing wrong? [link] [comments]
Spinning wheel on brand new MacBook Pro Posted: 04 Feb 2021 02:12 PM PST Hey guys, I just purchased the 2020 MacBook Pro with the touchbar and it's been good so far but I keep getting the spinning wheel of death whenever I use it. It's just for a few seconds when I click something or try to type something. I have run diagnostics on it and checked WiFi speed and both are completely fine!!!! All I'm using is safari with like 2 tabs open- nothing that is taking up significant energy. Is this common? Should I return it while I still can? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Feb 2021 05:34 PM PST Hey there, just wondering if stickers are easy to manage on the MacBook, because I know people like to decorate them. Would you recommend adding stickers? Are they easy to take off if I needed to? Would they leave any residue if I were to take them off? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Feb 2021 04:38 PM PST hey soooo im switching after using windows for many years and I'm changing because of the new M1 and I'm interested in both the air and pro, I'm mainly using it for video editing and school work I'm not really worried about screen size since it'll be connected to monitor but I was just wondering if there's any major difference between the two. (not to be cheap but if there's good older model for this I'm down) [link] [comments]

Is the Baseline M1 MacBook Air Worth It? (DESC) Posted: 04 Feb 2021 04:12 PM PST I want to know if purchasing the baseline/default M1 MacBook Air would be worth it. I made a post asking this question a few hours ago, but I wanted to add quite a few more details. I am sixteen years old. I want this MacBook to last approximately five years, if not longer. I want it to last till the end of post-secondary. I am currently using a MacBook Pro that is nine years old. It works fine/great for most of my needs. I will have a list of the specifications down below. Specifications:
How much better will the M1 MacBook Air be in comparison to this? I want to talk about what I need it for. Before I list why I want it, I want to go over what I am currently using. I use a variety of devices. I have a $1,000.00 CAN Windows desktop/tower. I have an iPhone 11/iPad Air 4. A lot of the things I use these devices for (temporarily) I want to do/switch over to this MacBook. Uses:
I do a lot of this stuff using the devices I already have. I mainly want this device for schoolwork, but I want to be able to use it for other cases/the things I listed above. With all that out of the way, is the baseline (for me) MacBook Air M1 worth it? Note: I do not need a lot of storage. My desktop only has 256 GB. Both Apple devices have 64 GB. I have a hard time filling that up. I have iCloud Storage, which gives me 2 TB of digital storage. [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Feb 2021 08:35 AM PST My school requires use of exam soft, and it seems to practically be malware based on searching reddit and looking at what it does. Requires admin access, checks and closes other processes, monitors your camera and mic, locks down the browser you use, etc. There have also been mentions about how it can be notoriously hard to remove afterwards and even some mentions of it messing up their computer to the point of needing to do a factory reset. Most of the time people are using it on windows, so I'm unsure how it works for removal on mac. Unfortunately there seems to be no way I can avoid using it, so my plan is to do something along these lines:
Is this a feasible course of action to take for each exam? We have them about 1-2 times a week so I'm concerned it might be a lot of wear on the MacBook or cause some sort of issue down the road. I'm just trying to be careful about it since while I have serious concerns about this software, a MacBook is an expensive piece of kit and I can't afford it getting messed up. [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Feb 2021 01:54 PM PST I purchased a like new 2020 MacBook Pro 13 with 16gb of ram and 512gb of storage for $1400. Less than 2 weeks old and the charger was still in its original packaging. Even the battery cycle count was 0. I essentially saved ~$300 and got a new Intel MacBook. Should I have purchased the M1 instead? This will be my primary computer as I finish my CS degree. Macbook Pro M1: Accessories to allow for charging, 4k 60hz and a USB slot Posted: 04 Feb 2021 01:54 PM PST Right now I have a Satechi type C Pro hub adapter but I've realized that only one of the USB C ports on it allows for charging and it's the same as the one that supports 60hz. Essentially this means that right now I'm bound to either charging or having a smooth screen experience. Even if I wanted to go down in resolution to 1080 through HDMI I don't get any refresh rate option. Is this possible if I also want to input my USB or should I accept a 30hz framerate? Quirks with 4k@60hz support for M1 MacBook Pros? Posted: 04 Feb 2021 10:01 AM PST Just got my 13" M1 8gb MacBook Pro. Awesome machine, it blows the pants off my 2018 15" i7 16gb. I have an issue with an external display however. My screen will only run 4k@30hz via HDMI on the M1 MacBook but using the same adapter and same cable with the same screen it works flawlessly at 4k@60hz on the 2018 MBP 15". Are there known issues or quirks with HDMI support and adapters on the M1 models? Why will this adapter do 4k60hz on the older MBP but not the M1? Unfortunately the screen is HDMI only so switching to DP isn't an option for me here. Thanks for any insight! [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Feb 2021 12:22 PM PST I'm looking to buy a MacBook Pro or Air but I keep seeing rumours of the updated versions coming out? Is it worth waiting or should I just get one of the current versions available. Thanks [link] [comments]
