MacBook Pro 2017 overheating and loud when playing 3D games ? Posted: 15 Jan 2021 06:52 PM PST Recently got a new laptop, works well so far and excellent screen quality. It's able to play games but I tried playing eve (a game on steam) and it began overheating. Anyway to prevent this ? wanted to play games on the side at times. [link] [comments]
Did you feel any practicality boost when you switched from a 15'6''/16'' MBP to a 13" MBP? Posted: 15 Jan 2021 10:16 PM PST I currently own a 2015 15" MBP and I really want to go for a 13" MBP when I'll upgrade, mostly because I found it sometimes difficult to carry my laptop to the library or when I travel. Did any of you do the same and feel more comfortable now? [link] [comments]

What is there to consider when buying a USB-C Adaptor Hub? Posted: 15 Jan 2021 04:37 PM PST Is this $60 one decent? IDK shit about computers. Not into gaming or streaming sports so the HDMI 30 Hz 60 Hz thing shouldn't bother me I guess. Is this good? Should I go for a cheaper one? (There's a bunch of rando companies that sell for $25 like this). I'm also considering this one because it's silver and would match my macbook heh. Thanks [link] [comments]
M1 MBA external display refresh rate Posted: 15 Jan 2021 10:17 AM PST I bought an LG 27GL83A monitor which has a 144 Hz native refresh rate (LG 27GL83A-B 27 Inch Ultragear QHD IPS 1ms NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible Gaming Monitor, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YGZL8XF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_XTDaGbJ9GBR77?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1). When I connected my M1 MacBook Air to the monitor via hdmi to hdmi cable, I can only get 60 Hz and I am not able to see any other option. Do I have to use a DisplayPort cable to get 144 Hz? If so, would it have to be a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable or DisplayPort to hdmi cable? Thanks! [link] [comments]
2015 MacBook Pro 15" CTO Spec Question Posted: 15 Jan 2021 03:33 PM PST Were these specs ever possible for a CTO machine? 2015 MacBook Pro 15", i7 - 2.8GHz, 16GB Ram, 128GB storage, Discrete Graphics The 128GB of storage is throwing me off. I googled these specs and it seemed like 128GB storage option was available on 13" models? [link] [comments]

Has 11.2 Big Sur fixed the wifi/BT issues on MBA M1? Posted: 15 Jan 2021 02:34 PM PST Just wondering. For those who have wifi/BT issues on their MBA M1 and also have downloaded 11.2, is the issue resolved? I am a lifelong windows user looking to finally switch to apple, but the wifi/bt issues concern me. Thanks [link] [comments]

Password needed for security changes incorrect Posted: 15 Jan 2021 12:41 PM PST I need to make security changes and it's asking for a password. I've tried using the one used to log in and it's showing incorrect. I've also tried the passwords I use on my phone for the App Store and iCloud but they are also incorrect. Is there a different password that I'm not aware of? I'm not tech illiterate and this seems like it would be a simple case of using the wrong password but I've tried everything combination of passwords I've ever used on my Apple devices. Is it possible to just enable fingerprint password? [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Jan 2021 10:45 AM PST So about 2 days ago my MBP started to be stuck in a boot loop. I've tried to get to startup options but when I hold the power button it says keep holding for startup option and then it just goes black and keeps saying the same thing. Also tried to reset NVRAM and there was no response to the system. The logo keeps on blinking every 5 seconds exactly. EDIT 1: Here is a video of the boot loop boot loop [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Jan 2021 10:37 AM PST Ive seen people complaining, rightly so or not, about the fact that the M1 MacBooks (and MacBooks in general) don't have FaceID. Now, I do see the convenience factor, I love it on my 11Pro, but with the ability to unlock my MacBook Air M1 (and other MacBooks/Macs) with my watch (automatically, before the camera is even on my face), the argument, for me, is mute. Posted: 15 Jan 2021 03:44 AM PST Hi, I'm currently a student and I will hopfully go into some sort of Software Engineering Apprentice after school. I currently have the MBP 2019 13.3" and with these new M1 Macs coming out, I know for a fact I will need to sell this Intel MacBook ASAP to sell it at a resonable prince (at the moment, around £800). So I know I need to sell this MacBook soon but I wanted to wait for the new M1X Macs to come out with their supposedly new design and more powerful chip and the fact that it can support more than just one monitor natively. But I'm hearing that would be out until the end of this year, maybe...? So that only leaves me really one choice to buy the new line of MacBooks that are out now really...? So my main two questions would be:
As I said, I am a student currently working on multiple projects (Xcode, web apps etc.) and will be looking to going into an Software Engineering career. I also want to look into small video editing as a new hobby for maybe a YT channel. Any thoughts? [link] [comments]
Advice and warning after a bad experience Posted: 15 Jan 2021 05:50 AM PST Advice: If you have any issues, however minor they may appear be sure to log them with Apple support on the day you notice them and note the reference number - even if you think it might be a one-time glitch. I had issues with the trackpad on my brand-new MacBook; freezing or moving on it's own. I then had issues with not being able to factory reset. Apple support have acknowledged there are problems with some M1 MacBooks currently. I was only able to organise a replacement because I had logged the issue within 30 days of receiving the laptop. Mine came down to the day and I still had to 'shout' at people on the phone for over 5 hours. It turns out they have a system that prioritises people who call the most often. I hate being that person but it's an expensive laptop and I wanted it repalced. This is just a heads up so others don't fall into the trap. I love Apple products (when they work). I hate their support system. [link] [comments]

(upgraded) Mid-2009 white Macbook: What's the best OS? Posted: 15 Jan 2021 08:45 AM PST My first Mac was a mid-2009 white Macbook that I still use as a backup-Mac. Since I purchased it a few years ago, I have maxed out the RAM and installed an SSD. I used the Dosdude1 patcher to install Catalina (though I know that officially the highest version of OSX this Macbook supports is 10.11.6 El Capitan) and expectedly, it is not as "speedy" (yeah right speedy lol!) as it could be. Seriously though, I know that Catalina is not a good choice for it, I guess I installed it just to see if it could be done. What I would like to find out is, is what is the optimal version of OSX to install on it? Which version would give me the best overall performance for its age? Yes, I know that we are talking about a nearly 12-year-old Macbook, but hey it was nearly free when I got it! BTW here is the Macbook that I am referring to https://everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/specs/macbook-core-2-duo-2.13-white-13-mid-2009-nvidia-specs.html and also https://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Apple-MacBook-White-5-2-Mid-2009.18130.0.html Thanks for your input guys.
