- 12 inch MacBook one USB-C port. Trying to reformat a 2TB HDD and I don’t have enough battery power for it to complete this task. Any kind of adapters out there that enable it to be powered through the adapter and also share the USB port?
- Anyone know what could be causing this display issue? Just appeared randomly and will go away and come back after I turn the computer off for a bit

Posted: 03 Jan 2021 08:00 PM PST I'm getting a base M1 MBA 7/16/256 soon, and looking for a budget dongle with at least 3 usb slots , 1 hdmi(4k @60), 1 ethernet , and 1 usb c data transfer (have a samsung T7 ssd) I've read some scary things that dongles with power delivery could damage the laptop, can someone confirm if this is true? Is it better to get a dongle without power delivery? Any budget brand recommendations ? [link] [comments]  | ||

I got these specs because I am a tech nerd and plan to either use this for several years, or pass on to wife\kids if a better version comes out. Wife is a photographer and regularly hits the wall on her laptop with 24GB RAM. Plus....future proofing. Over the last couple years all phones and tablets have switched over to iOS devices, so it is about time.... I have always been a Windows based guy (with linux on the side - several raspberry Pi). I am in IT, previously network and Windows server administration, now in software support role. I have always built my own PC\Servers and bought Windows based laptops. But after the last few years of Windows 10 glitches, security issues and general privacy concerns I thought it was time to make a move. Apples privacy moves recently I have been very pleased with, and honestly at this point I just want something that works. (I will continue to have Windows based PCs for gaming and hosting anything from a server standpoint) Mostly will be used for web browsing, MS office work, Plex streaming, light photo editing (adobe) The transition to Apple silicon has me VERY excited, I have been waiting for an ARM based migration for years and Microsoft and the CPU industry to a large extent has been ignoring any possibility outside of mobile applications (or just failing to get any traction). I have researched M1 and Rosetta functionality, I am not really concerned about compatibility, I already checked on all the apps I use on regular basis. But my macOS experience is limited, I haven't used a Mac consistently since the PowerPC era. Much has changed. I am looking for suggestions on using or configuring macOS.

It has wiped itself on one occasion wiping a script from it as well. I'm wondering if it would be worth while buying a new model MacBook, as I have heard that they really don't lose value and work well for years, but I only need one that can run programs such as final draft and works well for lectures. Would I be better off buying a 2017 MacBook or a brand new one ? | Slippery MB Air... Dbrand Skin? Better grip?? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:48 PM PST I'm finding my new MB Air M1 to be very slippery. It slides off my lap too easily and when I try to slip it into my sleeve case or remove it, I'm afraid to drop it. I came across an archived thread about Dbrand skins. Does anyone know if they help with grip and give more friction to keep the computer from sliding so easily? Or are they just to protect against scratches? I don't see anything mentioned on their site about grip or friction. Or is there some kind of friction tape that I could apply a couple of strips of? I just made ONE document in Word (online) and, for the first time since owning this Macbook (M1 MBA), I saw the battery decrease significantly. More so than playing games and watching TV+. My question is: Should I pay to get Microsoft Office 2019 for Mac? Is it compatible/ is it worth the money? Or should I pay the yearly Office 365 subscription (seems like a ripoff to me)? I'd love to hear what others are doing. I'd rather not shell out more money now, but I definitely need Office for my job. | Posted: 03 Jan 2021 03:33 PM PST So I got this Macbook for free from a corrupt company, and it worked fine at the start, but now tt won't turn on. I've tried everything from holding down the power button to resetting the firmware. But! When I do press those keys to do the SMC, the fans inside spool up a little and die down again. The charger is green when plugged then turns orange which I guess is normal. Any last clues before I ditch this one? (this model is probably from 2014) [link] [comments]  | ||

Since I need screenshots to be 4K, if I plug in a 4K monitor to the Macbook pro, will the screenshot on this 4K monitor be in 4K? Or does the graphics card support only Apple monitors? | Dissappointed with M1 Pro battery life? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 10:55 AM PST Hi guys, So i got a MBP M1 with 16GB RAM two weeks ago. However, I have not been getting anywhere near the amazing battery life I had been reading about (17 hours browsing). Today I got 8 hours with light usage on about 75% screen brightness (browsing, spotify, Word). It seems to be draining very quickly. Also how is battery drain overnight for you guys? Went to bed with 100%, slept for 10 hours and it was at 97, however I have read people not losing any battery overnight? Wanted to know your experiences and if this is "normal"? Thanks alot! | Posted: 03 Jan 2021 05:18 AM PST So my MacBook has took some useage battery wise now. Battery is not so strong anymore. Problem is I cannot be plugged into power and into the HDD at the same time. Was thinking maybe there was an adapter that also allows the power cable to power the laptop while simultaneously allowing me to access the HDD? Thanks for any help [link] [comments]  | ||
