Posted: 21 Nov 2020 02:45 AM PST I have a MacBook Air 2020 and have tried multiple times to download Big Sur only for it to reach near the end and say 'Error in Installation'. Is anyone else still having this issue? I thought it would be fixed by now but it clearly is not. Would really appreciate some advice. TIA [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Nov 2020 11:10 PM PST I accidentally tried to download Big Sur BETA and not the REAL Big Sur, and it had 2gb downloaded already. But in ~Library/Updates it was empty, the update files are being stored ELSEWHERE. CleanMyMacX can't pick this up, and I'm down 2 GB until i can find the location of the downloaded files. I have a 120gb MacBook with a maximum windows partition. Does anyone know where they might be? EDIT: I just downloaded the REAL Big Sur update, and It said I needed an additional 30 gb of space... Which it never even stated fucking anywhere, so I canceled the update. And now I only have 1.5GB of storage left. I can't find any of the update files, library/updates is empty, cleanmymac doesn't do a fucking thing, even OmniDiskSweeper has no fucking clue where all the storage went... Im so lost... I had 16gb at the start of the day... now I have 1.5... UNTIL I cant find where those update folders are stored I saw the "Big Sur" install thing in applications, and I REMOVED it with cleanmymacx, but it didn't save a byte of data... Now im stuck with a whole ass OS hidden in my storage... My macOS parition is 46GB but look: https://imgur.com/gallery/FHXUvfM CleanMyMac only reports fucking 27.88GB only... What are my options dear lord... [link] [comments]

Posted: 21 Nov 2020 02:22 AM PST There is zero technical reason, but I understand why they are doing it. I have already seen a developer posting the same exact app to the Mac app store, that literally works the same as the iPad app, and are charging five times as much for it. Other apps will never see the light of day on the Mac, presumably to push users towards using an inferior web app or perhaps nothing at all. I hope devs aren't too restrictive here. Cmon devs, give the people what they want. [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Nov 2020 01:43 AM PST So updated my Mac to Big Sur 11.1 and now my iMovie is totally playing up and I can edit and make a video but when I go to share to file and export I get nothing as the progress circle doesn't appear. Help!!!!!! [link] [comments]
If Wifi is on and Ethernet is connected, does it use Ethernet as priority? Posted: 20 Nov 2020 06:08 AM PST On Windows if you do this the Wifi icon disappears on the task bar and changes to the computer one, but on Mac it still shows Wifi connected and then in Network settings also shows Ethernet. I turn off Wifi all the time but is that necessary? I don't want it using Wifi if I'm on Ethernet but it doesn't really make it clear what's what. [link] [comments]

M1 MacBook Air - Keys/shortcut for keyboard brightness Posted: 20 Nov 2020 09:58 PM PST Hi. Now that there is no keys for keyboard brightness with the new M1 MacBooks... Anybody knows if it's possible to create a shortcut or remap some keys to turn up and down the keyboard brightness? I don't want it to turn on automatically, so I've turned that off. But I'd like to have a quick way to turn it on, without going to control center. Thank you very much :) [link] [comments]
Partitioning the startup drive? Posted: 20 Nov 2020 09:32 PM PST So i acquired an old imac which runs on 10.5.8 and i want to upgrade to 10.6. I have the installer as a file, and i belive i only need to partition the startup drive to allow its install. However i can't partition the drive because the "apply" button is grayed out, even after selecting format and such. Google is unhelpful, and so are the forums. [link] [comments]

Big Sur won't recognize bluetooth headphones as audio device. Posted: 20 Nov 2020 09:03 PM PST I have a pair of sony headphones that have been paired and working fine with my imac for the past several months. Upgraded to Big Sur, and the headphones remain paired, but the imac will not send them audio. They show up connected in the bluetooth menu, I can start and stop playback of audio and adjust volume with the headphone controls, but they are not recognized as an audio device. I factory reset the headphones and re-paired, no dice. I reset the bluetooth module on the imac, no dice. I trashed the bluetooth .pref file and restarted, and still the same issue. Any clever ideas for next steps? Or do I just throw it on the pile of Big Sur bugs and hope for the best in the next update? [link] [comments]
Safari Refresh When Watching Videos Posted: 20 Nov 2020 02:35 PM PST For some reason ever since I updated to Big Sur, Safari seems to have dramatically decreased its RAM use "threshold" for a webpage to trigger an automatic refresh, giving the "this webpage was refreshed because it was taking up significant memory" message after the refresh. This very rarely occurred before the update. Also, I'm not sure if this is a playmaker but I have a MacBook Pro with 32 GB of RAM so I really don't see how it could be a memory issue. I've pulled up Activity Monitor when this happens to check how much memory the site is using and it's barely getting up to 600 MB. Does anyone else have this issue or know of a fix? It typically happens when watching lectures for school which gets quite frustrating when the page randomly refreshes every 20 minutes. [link] [comments]
MAC OS and G-Suites Drive (google drive) filling up local HD Posted: 20 Nov 2020 03:26 PM PST I've been happy with G Suites Drive over the last months using their FileStream app. Before and after upgrading to Big Sur from Catalina, the same issue: 2019 MBA 150g internal drive using WIfi for connections to internet and local NAS. Home network has 2TB NAS and I have a gsuites network drive for work stuff which is practically unlimited. Google drive appears in side bar, so it's easy to open. Same with NAS. I open 2 Finder windows - one with my gsuites drive and the other with my NAS DRIVE If I drag a few hundred megs from the NAS drive into the gsuites network drive window, everything works great. Copies from NAS to google drive with a little buffering. You can tell by the progress pie in Finder. Do the same with 25 gigs and the local hard drive on my MBA fills up long before the copy job is complete. All but lIke 80 megs. I know why it does.... the internet is slower than my home wifi so the files have to buffer somewhere so they buffer in my MBA. The buffer writes a ton of temp files to the disk. So many temp files that the disk becomes full. Then MAC OS starts whining and throws up suggestions for cleaning unused files or store them in your iCloud account. I just don't like 99% of my spare disk space to be used by one instance of an app. If you doing productive work, you need some spare space, no¿ I BELIEVE the copy job is being buffered at ~/Library/Application Support/Google/DriveFS Is there a way to limit the size of a directory in MAC OS? If I could cap the buffer folder to say 10g, it wouldn't affect the total time elapsed of the copy job. And I wouldn't have a stroke when Big Sur throws up a scary and panic-inducing "out of disk space" warning. How can I impose a size limit on a folder? I still think 10 gigs is a lot. Assuming one can place a limit on directory size, what's a reasonable size limit? And shouldn't it be a function of home network speed and internet access speed? Bonus question How do you get that Suggestions panel to come up without filling up the disk? Thx [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Nov 2020 05:38 PM PST I was working on homework until my MacBook suddenly crashed. I tried turning it back on and saw a blinking folder with a question mark on it. Then, I did as most people would do, I looked for a fix on YouTube and found this one video. I did as it said. I tried restarting it while pressing Command + R to go to OS X Utilities only to find that reinstalling OS X isn't possible because I need to erase my disk first or whatever according to the video. So, I did as the video said and clicked on "Disk Utility" in OS X Utilities only to find that I can't even erase a disk. There's no "Macintosh HD" or whatever. There's only SuperDrive, disk0, and OS X Base System. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
