Optimized M1 Chrome vs. Safari Battery Consumption Posted: 22 Nov 2020 07:00 PM PST Alright everyone, now that Chrome is optimized for the M1 chip can someone let me know how it compares to Safari? I've been using them both but can't seem to tell a noticeable difference. If there is, I'd love to continue using Chrome but if battery life is going to suffer vs. Safari I'll take the bullet with Safari. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Nov 2020 05:30 PM PST Hey all, Just bought an m1 MacBook Pro. Was stoked on it and the battery life and performance have exceeded my expectations... BUT it seems to be freezing... A lot? I don't see much else talking about it but OneDrive cripples it completely every few minutes (I chocked this up too incompatibility and moved on). InDesign seems to do similar. More important for my workflow, but again, maybe a temporary compatibility issue. But now its also been freezing while using Chrome, which is supposed to be a compatible app. Is mine defective? Is the emulation less stable than reviews suggest? Anyone else in a similar boat? I've had to hard reset a handful of times and I'm thinking about returning it til things stabilize more. Posted: 22 Nov 2020 03:58 PM PST Hey guys, I've been following all the recent coverage for these new laptops and I can't find a super consultant answer in battery differences. I've seen videos where the Pro lasted up to 50% longer in identical task as the air. What's the average difference in battery performance can I expect? I have a Late2013 15" as well if anyone can give me a difference I can expect as well overall in performance and battery (600cycles) [link] [comments]

Controller Support for iOS apps on M1? (It does not work for me) Posted: 22 Nov 2020 09:25 PM PST Has anyone been able to use a controller (i.e. xbox) with iOS apps on any of the M1 Macs? I got the MacBook Air and the controller works for most things but not iOS apps. I made sure to test ones that support MFI. [link] [comments]

Pro or Air M1 for league of legends + light coding Posted: 22 Nov 2020 08:23 PM PST Which one should I go with? I do some like coding (APIs, app development) and play league (max 4 hours at a time). I worry the air without the fan may fail me in the long run. Which model do you guys think is better? Pls don't suggest windows:( I had a late 2016 MacBook Pro, it actually used to feel hot to the touch after playing sometimes, I wonder if I can get away with the air now and save a bit of $$ [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Nov 2020 03:12 AM PST Hi Guys! I want to buy a MacBook in a week or so but i'm actually struggleing with the decision if I should buy a M1 MacBook Air or Pro. So what would you recommend? I need it mostly for common office work and I also want to start to get into digital art (Photoshop) and video editing (not big projects, maybe some YouTube videos). The device should also run the game World of Warcraft. Have you some advice, what would you recommend? Thanks a lot! [link] [comments]
What's your guess for the 16" ARM Macbook Pro? Posted: 22 Nov 2020 10:29 PM PST I'm looking to get a 16" MacBook but I'm in zero rush. I'm not in programming or anything like like, I just wants bigger screen. My question is, when do y'all think the ARM based 16" MacBook will come out? Any ideas would be helpful! Thank you! Bricked Brand New MacBook - Issues doing a clean install of Big Sur (11.0.1)? Posted: 22 Nov 2020 07:09 PM PST So I've gotten two MacBook Pro's (M1 2020's) and had them upgraded to 11.0.1. Then finished my testing and initiated the return process and started to wipe them per Apple's instructions. Both and each time consecutively fail around 30% with an error message "Failed to personalize the software update. Please try again.". It stumped the AppleCare+ team also. I never had this issue with 11.0.0 so wondering if anyone else is experiencing this? It bricks the device and all recovery processes do not work. [link] [comments]
Top level of numbers/symbols are not working Posted: 22 Nov 2020 03:02 PM PST So the top row of keys, which is my numbers, has started to randomly not work. The 1 and 2 and 6 and 9.....only work about half the time. Sometimes they will work each time I use them, other times they won't work at all. And won't work until I use the laptop again the following day. I got some air-spray and shot the air into the sides of the keys, thinking maybe since my laptop is 8 years old, that maybe those keys have just accumulated a lot of dust inside the keyboard. This worked perfect and for about a week all my keys worked. But now it's back to like before. Several of the keys in my top row don't work. or you have to click them 8-9 times and then they will finally work. Or sometimes you have to log off and come back the next day. Any suggestions? Thank You [link] [comments]

Is it going to be worth the wait for 16" Macbook Pro M1/SoC? Posted: 22 Nov 2020 04:20 PM PST Is the 16" MBP with the SoC going to be significantly better than the M1 in the 2020 13" MBP? I need a new laptop and want to get the new M1 chip, but I'll probably end up waiting if the 16" version is going to be significantly better. I do a lot of audio production, editing, graphic design, etc. Should I get the 13" M1, the currently available 16" i9, or just wait for the 16" SoC MBP? Thank you all for your help! How often do you upgrade your MacBook? Posted: 22 Nov 2020 03:14 AM PST Hi! Currently have a late 2016 13" MBP core i5 8GB / 256 GB SSD with no touch bar. It runs pretty much perfect, apart from the 'w' key being a little sticky. I've been eyeing Apple Silicon for a while and now that the MBP M1 is finally released and the reviews are incredible, I've been wanting to sell my current MBP for $500 and upgrade to the M1 so badly! However, I feel like the smart choice would be to wait, as my 2016 MBP still runs completely fine, is relatively new (4 years), & I've heard rumors of a 14" MBP in 2021? I also feel like the value of my 2016 MBP will depreciate fast due to the performance of the new M1 chips, so maybe selling now is also a good idea? Idk, need advice! I'm also a college student and I've recently switched my major to Cognitive Science with a specialization in programming, so I'm in a lot of (and expect to be in more) CS classes that require using an IDE like Xcode & VSCode. My 2016 MBP runs all of this fine, it's just a little slow as I usually have several apps (specifically developer apps), chrome tabs, and browsers open simultaneously. Any advice? Thanks in advanced!
