    So February of this year my brother bought an Macbook Pro from an Apple Store in the US, the device was going to be used for work related stuff but ended up never being used, so in the meanwhile he just stored it in his closet and didn't touch it.

    Box was opened to check up on the contents and left that way, plastic/paper sleeve on the Macbook was still on it.

    So a while back his daily use Macbook of 3 years had it's screen go to shit so he thought, why not use the brand new one that I have in the closet.

    Took it out of the box, removed the plastic, opened it up aaaand nothing.

    Screen didn't turn on, so he messaged me and asked what could have been the issue and I said it could be because it was never powered on the battery is just fully drained, so told him to keep it charged for a while and try it again.

    Same thing, the screen pops up for a couple seconds, shows the battery is low icon and shows it's charging and then just turns off again. You can briefly hear the fans spin up and then go silent when it turns off.

    Looked online and saw talks about the resetting of the SMC and that doesn't work either.

    Any help?

    hey y’all! my laptop is doing this. i tried restoring it but it can’t find a startup disk? mac says i need to take it somewhere for repair but i don’t want to spend the money. any fixes you guys know of for this?

    I bought a Macbook Pro back in 2013. It was amazing, but currently it just burns my lap and takes literally 5 minutes to load a word document. I don't know what to do with it now because I've got different upgraded systems to take care of my computing needs, but I feel bad about just recycling it or leaving it at home as an "emergency machine". Because dang, even after 7 years this MBP is still a beast and still has better colour reproduction than my brand new XPS 15 (the 2019, 1080 non-OLED version, mind you. I'm not trying to diss the XPS.)

    I thought maybe I should do a factory reset and try to sell my old machine so it doesn't completely go to waste. Everything still functions as intended and there's been no major damage done to it, ever. There's some minor cosmetic scruffs here and there, and the screen and keyboard definately need a good clean, but aside from that, it's pretty good. The specs are: MacBook Pro 13 inch, mid 2012 Processor: 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory: 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics: Intel HD graphics 4000 1536MB Storage: 500GB HDD

    An official apple store would probably offer me about 50p for it or just offer to scrap it for parts, but I wanted to ask you guys instead. How much value would you put on this old but still awesome machine? Do you think it's worth anything in today's laptop market? What are your thoughts? Please advise!

    Will M1 Optimised Software for the new MacBooks be crack-free ?

    Weird issue with new M1 MacBook Air

    Got a new MacBook this week, and set up everything fine: mail, messages, music and photo libraries all transferred nicely and easily. However, on my old MacBook Pro, whenever I would receive a text message for two-factor authentications, I would also get a message on the MacBook Pro. However, I'm not seeing that on the MacBook Air. Any thoughts or help? TIA

    Macbook 12"

    Hi!

    Due to the home office and home school, I want to upgrade the monitor my GF, and I use. The issue is that she's got a Macbook 12 and there are (as far as I've seen) some limitations to the screen that she can connect to. I've been looking and drooling over this for a bit. Anyone know if this will work on her 12"? Will it work? Will it work great? Are there any good options? BTW the screen is on quite a discount now, and this will be about the maximum I'm willing to pay.

    Do the M1 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models have different trackpad sizes?

    Are the trackpad sizes between the new M1 MBP and the Macbook Air different? The specs for the keyboard and the screen appear to be the same, but when looking at the pictures on the website it seems that the trackpad on the MBP is slightly larger. Definitely wider (when checking with which keys it overlaps) and also a somewhat narrower gap between the trackpad and the keyboard:

    hi, my mbp 2015 13' have had the idea to fall from a table.

    Now if I connect it to an external screen everything is working, but the retina display never show anything except a very slight blue. The luminosity buttons respond too, so the slight blue is more or less bright.

    That make me think that the LCD is ok, and that it's the board that fail to send correct video signal.

    I've unplug and replug the video connection inside the mbp which has previously resolved the same symptoms on a similar mbp, but this case did nothing.

    I'll be glad to have another idea than changing mortherboard.

    Hi, I'm looking to get a Macbook but I was reading about iOS apps and how developers can opt-out of releasing the app for the Macbooks. I was wondering if anyone who owns one of the new laptops would like to please check if the Youtube Music app can be installed on them and even possibly if the music can be downloaded :)

    Windows doesn't have ytm support as it's browser only and this would be a big thing for me.

    Big Sur trackpad issues?

    Just updated my 2013 15'' MBP to Big Sur.

    When moving the trackpad around the cursor lags and jumps around randomly, which was not an issue before I updated.

    Any ideas please?

    Keep a single photo album downloaded

    Is it possible to keep a single photo album downloaded on a MacBook when you use iCloud to optimise storage? I have a single album that I like to use as a desktop slideshow, but they don't stay downloaded! I have 20,000+ photos so keeping them all downloaded isn't an option

    SSD Startup Disk/Power Issue

    Hello,

    I have an issue with my MacBook Pro ( Mid-2012 - 9,2 - Catalina ver. 10.15.7 ); when power to the hard drive is cut the computer appears to 'lose' the startup disk (i.e. restarting, sleep mode).

    So, for example, if I close the screen long enough for the hard drive to sleep; when I lift the screen I will frequently get the flashing question mark folder icon. The same thing happens with an intentional restart, or if I power the computer off and on. The number of times I need to reboot before the MacBook will load properly seems to vary--it can be as few as three or as many as 13 or 14 times.

    I've booted it in recovery mode and checked the startup disk with Disk Utility on everything (everything appears fine), replaced the HD ribbon cable, replaced the battery, reset the SMC/PRAM a number of times, and various other obscure things suggested by the internet.

    HD is a OWC Mercury Electra 6G SSD (revision 609ABBF0) if that's helpful. Original HD is in a data doubler and currently hosts all of my photos.

    Thoughts on what else to try or where to look for solutions? (I did contact OWC about a week ago, but have not heard back from them yet.) At this point I've stopped using the laptop as a laptop--I keep it powered on and plugged in, I don't let the HD sleep, I don't close the screen, etc. I also stopped using my Windows partition because I'm worried that at some point it won't reboot at all (things are backed up, so data loss isn't a concern--just can't afford a new computer right now).
