    Update slows SSD ... again

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 01:27 AM PST

So even with this new release (10.13.2) after upgrading the SSD took a nose dive. Boot time 47 seconds. As the last time I tried to backup the newly upgraded system to time machine then restore to the SSD from recovery . Bam! Boot time is back down to 23 secs. Something is breaking during upgrades. Please if you have this too try backup restore see what happens. My SSD is 250GB 840 evo.

Graphics performance at half (OpenGL) after High Sierra 10.13.2 Upgrade.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2017 06:23 PM PST

Hi, I'm using a MacBook Pro 2017 with Radeon 560 as dedicated graphics card. So, sometimes I play videogames in Mac with Steam, for example Worms W.M.D. and Worms Reloaded, but when I tried to play these games after the update to 10.13.2, with the same graphics config I get only 25fps, and with 10.13.1 I get 60fps. Is only me?

Update: I restarted my Macbook and the issue was gone, but it curious, this issue maybe appears sometimes.

Is there something i'm missing with this mail snapping feature(details inside)?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2017 04:28 PM PST

So i get a notification that i got 10 new mail so
i click the notification to deal with them -

macos snaps my current application to the left and the mail to the right for me to read.
i deal with the mail either by deleting or replying to it and then - the mail window just closes? why doesn't it goto the next mail in the list? do i have to configure this somewhere or is it just not possible?
can i only deal with the topmost mail and then i have to open the mail app? this seems like totally non-intuitive behavior

    UN-INSTALLER - automatically create?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2017 12:13 PM PST

When installing non-Apple programs, like Firefox, OpenOffice, or SomeApp.pkg, rather than just copying the Firefox.app file into the /Applications folder or double clicking the .pgk file, isn't there some software for installing those apps indirectly, and creating an UNINSTALLER at the same time?

We all know that it can be a pain in the butt to really remove all traces of a program that one wants to uninstall later on; so a software that keeps track of all steps during installation and later simply reverses them could save one a lot of hassle ...

Some programs already come with an uninstaller (praise upon them); unfortunately, most don't.

Find my friends widget not working in NC.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2017 07:31 PM PST

So it has been working fine forever, but now there is just a button there that says "sign in to icloud". I am already signed in to icloud however. When I press the button, nothing happens. It disappears for a split second so it registers my click, then it reappears.

I can also use find my friends perfectly fine if I go to the messages app, and click "detail" on a person. Then I can view where they are at any given time, but this specific widget isn't working anymore, and I really would like a fix for this.

After MacOS update Mac is having kernel attacks...

    Posted: 07 Dec 2017 06:01 AM PST

I just updated to MacOS 10.13.2 Public Beta 6 and after the update my Mac says "Your computer restarted because of a problem..." After hitting enter it came up with my lock screen and then a few seconds later it restarts again and comes up with the same warning... it keeps doing this even after a clean install of High Sierra through recovery mode. Can someone please help me?

Recover data from partition type FFFFF

    Posted: 07 Dec 2017 12:11 PM PST

    Hello !

I tried to update my macbook (el Captain) to High Sierra and when I went back, I saw that the installation has crashed. From the disk utility, I couldn't see my partition disk anymore so I used a new one to boot on it. Now, I have a brand new MacOS High Sierra on a different partition from the one I used to see and I want to recover all my files. But even now, when I run the disk utility, I can't find my original partition. In fact, his type is "unknown" when I check the different partitions in my HDD.

    http://hpics.li/94ce5df

All my work is on disk0s3 (290Gb) and as you can see, the Type is FFFFFFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFF.

So I asked my best friend Google for a solution and tried this : https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/258441/recover-data-from-partition-showing-as-ffff

    But quickly, I can't continue.

    First:

    gpt -r show disk0

    give me this result :

gpt show: unable to open device 'disk0': Operation not permitted

and after I tried all of theses :

    diskutil umount force disk0

result : disk0 was already unmounted or it has a partitioning scheme so use "diskutil unmountDisk" instead

    diskutil umount force disk0s3

    disk0s3 was already unmounted

    diskutil umountDisk disk0

result : Unmount of disk0 failed: at least one volume could not be unmounted

    diskutil umountDisk disk0s3

result : Unmount of disk0 failed: at least one volume could not be unmounted

In fact, the volume I can't unmount is disk0s0 :

    diskutil umount force disk0s0

result : Unmount failed for disk0s0

    And I don't know why.

I am booting with disk1 (partition HSierra on the screenshot) so I don't think the problem is because I am on the same disk.

Any help would save my day.

Thanks in advance and sorry if my english is approximative, I am French.

    Unknown process "rapportd"

    Posted: 07 Dec 2017 05:48 AM PST

I am seeing an unknown process /usr/libexec/rapportd wanting to accept incoming connections. Does anyone know what this is? The following Homebrew packages are installed and I have Flutter setup. I am running macOS 10.13.2

autoconf libimobiledevice python3 automake libplist rbenv cocoapods libtasn1 readline gdbm libtool ruby-build git libusb sqlite html2text libxml2 tidy-html5 htmlcleaner libzip usbmuxd ideviceinstaller openssl xz ios-deploy pkg-config

edit: Looks like Apple framework. Would be good if I knew why it suddenly got installed as part of new update.

    Time Machine problem after 10.13.2

    Posted: 07 Dec 2017 05:26 AM PST

    Hi,

    I have a Macbook 12 with a 256GB SSD. I usually backup to a 1TB HDD.

The problem is, ever since I updated to 10.13.2 a few hours ago, my time machine is acting weird.

It is currently on 95.10GB of 949.64GB backed up - and says about 4 hours remaining.

This is clearly impossible as I only have a 256GB SSD. What exactly is it "backing up"? And can anyone help me fix this please?

    Thanks!

[Bug] Mac ignoring notification sound settings.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2017 04:34 AM PST

When my Mac receives an email it will always chime, I have turned off "play sounds for notifications" in the settings panel but it's really getting on my nerves now and the only way to silence it is to turn off my sound completely. I have a touch bar 2016 MBP 13 inch.
