I know AR isn’t big news, but LiDAR really changes the game for AR apps. Posted: 25 Oct 2020 05:54 AM PDT I've been updating Playground AR: Physics Sandbox since ARKit was released in 2017. But with this year update, which supports LiDAR for the iPad Pro and iPhone 12 Pro I think it really changes the game. Being able to interact with the environment right away (no need to scan surfaces as it's updating every second) blows my mind every time. It's a whole new level of AR immersion. I don't know if we're getting AR Glasses soon but I hope they come with this technology. [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Oct 2020 11:09 AM PDT For those just joining us, Halide is a camera app for iPhone that lets you get better shots, more control, and learn more about photography. This was about eighteen months of work, so we're pretty excited to get this out! There's a lot new, so I wrote about all that here: https://blog.halide.cam/introducing-halide-mkii-30f9f2bceac3?source=collection_home---4------0----------------------- TLDR: 50+ new features, total redesign (including for old iPhones! Yay, everything under your thumb on iPhone 8+), really crazy tech to allow us to do realtime 14-bit exposure analysis, one-tap RAW processing for getting started with RAW, ProRAW ready, in-app tutorials and more. So... We first released Halide a bit over three years ago (maybe closer to three and a half years), so we were very excited to get this out but also realized that we really needed to do a paid update to keep paying the bills. We kind of wondered for a long time what to do; apps are going subscription-only as a way to keep a small, dedicated following that support you and ensure recurring revenue. That seemed smart, especially considering that we want to build a few things with ongoing costs. But, what do we do about existing users? And honestly, I don't want subscriptions all the time. The whole idea of a camera is that you can buy it and take photos with it, value-added services be damned. So here's the deal with Mark II: - Existing users get the app for free; - We're also giving them a year of free updates; - After that year, the app will continue working with its feature-set, but new updates or added services will require a membership; - Existing users can still support us with a membership to get ONE unique perk: special icons. One is only unlockable by existing users; - New users can either get a membership (which may include other apps or services in the future, but for now only gets you some cool new icons) or just buy the app outright, which will allow them to not have to worry about a recurring charge at all. I hope/think we did this right, but I'd honestly love your thoughts! As I said earlier, I wrote a blog post with some of what is new here — this is our new website, and this is where you can get the app. I have some promo codes, too, so I'll happily give those out to those that can share some of their favorite photography / best fuzzy animal gifs / have unique requests for what icon we should add next! tldr: new app take photo good [link] [comments]

[Self Promotion Sunday] We made an app that adds Night Mode Video & Time-lapse to your iPhone camera Posted: 25 Oct 2020 08:18 AM PDT Hey everyone! As you probably know, at NeuralCam we have a photo NightMode app that's recognized as the leading night mode solution for iPhones without a built-in photo Night Mode. Well, this week we launched a new app - NeuralCam NightVideo. With our new app, you can record brighter, clearer videos & time-lapses in low light situations, making full use of the iPhone's Neural Engine. We have 5 different capturing modes (Day, Dusk, Night, Night+ and Time-Lapse), each to be used in different situations. The result will be a bright, clean and smooth video, a video that's usable, compared to the default camera output. You can read more about how it works & the technology behind it here: https://neural.cam/news/nightvideo/ Here's a comparison video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xU3JiUmhdMg Since this level of video processing requires quite some processing power, NeuralCam NightVideo is only available on devices with the A12 NeuralEngine (iPhone XS/XR and later) and iOS 14. With real-time processing and modes covering everything from slightly low light settings to really dark scenes, NeuralCam NightVideo is the first app to provide Night Mode for Video. You can purchase the NeuralCam NightVideo app from the App Store; make sure to send us all your feedback over at [hello@neural.cam](mailto:hello@neural.cam) - we'd love to hear from you. GiveawayAs per tradition, we're giving away 25 promo codes, just leave some thoughts in a comment and we'll send a code via DM. Edit: since so many of you are really eager to try it out, we increased the number of codes to 50, and everyone who comments is eligible, as we'll be holding a draft. I'll be sending out the codes to the winners at 4 PM PST! [link] [comments]

Drinksly - The (better) secret menu app Posted: 25 Oct 2020 02:13 PM PDT Hello everyone! I hope you are having a great Sunday and are all healthy. Recently (last month to be exact), I released my application Drinksly (View on the App Store) built with SwiftUI for iOS 14. WhyI decided to make this companion app after I had so many people come to the Starbucks that I work trying to order by showing me pictures, TikTok videos, and even showing me Instagram post of drinks. It was hard to make out the text in pictures and a lot of times the people creating these drinks didn't even know how to order the drinks themselves. I decided to take on the challenge and allow myself to learn SwiftUI. In the process I found many apps that did the same thing; however, they were all outdated and not so "iOS" looking - think Android. Some of them were so bloated and ad-ridden that you had to share the app to friends just to see the recipe. I understand we all want to make money but this just took away from the experience. Not to mention that they charged you $3 for a pro version that had NOTHING different from the free version. I created the app and had it fetch from a Database rather than have all the drinks preprogrammed. This allows me to upload new drinks and control the content on the app as opposed to having 6 year old drinks that don't even exist anymore. I have simplified the ordering process and have included fun facts in case you find yourself looking to grow your useless trivia knowledge. You can even submit drinks you see online so that I can add them to the app and include directions on how to order them exactly (since I have worked for the coffee giant for 10 years). I hope that y'all find this fun, useful, and maybe even inspires you to create your own apps. My problem was that ordering wasn't simple and sometimes was anxiety inducing. I tried to bridge the gap between simplicity and fun, and scary and taxing. This is the only Starbucks secret menu application that you'll need on your phone. Thank you so much for your time in browsing my app, Drinksly! - Yon [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Oct 2020 03:57 AM PDT I've just shipped an update to TechniCalc that includes a way to save and insert equations. There's also a tonne of small UI tweaks from the last version, and pretty significant improvements to the iPad UI. To celebrate, I'm giving away 10 codes to 10 random commenters. Codes will be given out tomorrow morning (around 9am GMT). TechniCalc is a smart calculator for a smart phone. The modern interface that makes a clean break from traditional pocket calculators. Equations are entered in a natural way, adhering to every detail of hand-written maths. The advanced maths engine also makes this the only calculator you'll ever need. You'll find your garden variety logs, sins, and cosines — but for when you need it, the engine has full support for imaginary numbers, vectors, matrices, sums and products, and differentiation and integration. Posted: 25 Oct 2020 04:26 AM PDT Hello! I am the developer of RunFit for Apple Watch, a new app for Apple Watch. Professionally, I am a C# dev, but as a quarantine project I wanted to learn Swift and publish an app! I wanted the app to solve a real life problem: I am a runner and there was no way to easiliy see my weekly mileage on my Apple Watch. This is version 1.0 in term of features, but there are many interesting things to come 🙂 Here's what's included: Your Weekly Progress Track your mileage, running time and quality time to get insights on your week's training. Each stats are automatically reset every Monday so that you begin every week anew. RunFit supports displaying the distance both in kilometers or in miles, so you are free to use your favourite system of measurement. Always on your Wrist Each stats are available as separate complications. That means that by customizing your favourite watch face, you'll be able to quickly glance at your running data without even having to open the app. And now with watchOS 7, you can display all three stats on the same watch face. Supports your Favorite Workout Apps You don't even need to do your workout with your Apple Watch for RunFit to work. As long as your workout data gets saved in the Health app of your iPhone you are good to go. Most popular iOS workout apps such as Strava and Garmin Connect integrates with the Health app. If you prefer to keep things simple, running workouts done with Apple Watch's built in Workout app are, of course, also supported. I've also localized it in English, French, Spanish and Italian. The app is not free, but there's no subscription and it's pretty cheap. Cheaper than a fancy Srarbucks coffee! Of course, feedback is welcome: let me know what you think in the comments. Cheers! [link] [comments]
