IOS 14 has fixed my screen dead spots!

iPadOS 14 has made me less happy with my iPad, due to the poor widget implementation

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 09:22 AM PDT

While iPadOS 14 is objectively an upgrade over iPadOS 13 - which I was happy with - I cannot quite shake the subjective feeling that my iPad is now "worse off" than it was due to how the new widgets are implemented. Requiring them to be in the sidebar like on iPadOS 13 where iPhones can put them anywhere is just outright dumb. It's essentially a missing feature from iOS 14 over to iPadOS 14, which is made worse by the fact that easy multitasking from the dock means so many people (me included) put all apps there anyways, leaving the entire home screen to be a potential widget space.

I love my iPad, and Apple products in general, but this particular decision just pisses me off.

Next 12.9-inch iPad Pro to be the first Apple product to ship with a Mini-LED display

Took off my Paperlike protector after 8 months, and I love it.

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 06:47 AM PDT

I bought the Paperlike last year and I had mixed feelings. The sensation of writing on it felt decent but I always got annoyed with the insane amount of scratches it got in under a week and the rainbow-effect on the screen annoyed me. But I mostly used it for studying and the image didn't bother me as much. I left it as is.

I use it for consuming content a lot more now and I disliked the image a LOT recently. I took it off and I absolutely love it. Using it to take notes isn't that bad on glass, you just get used to it.

    Anybody feel the same way?

    Keyboard Question

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 09:51 AM PDT

I've only recently started using keyboards (keyboard cases/covers) with ipads so forgive me for asking but why do they all seem to lack an Esc key?

It's not that big of a deal except when switching out of insert mode in vim and using the onscreen Esc key. I was just wondering though.

Logitech adds ambient light to Combo Touch

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 08:05 AM PDT

Logitech added many features to the combo touch keyboard though a software update. They added fixes to the keyboard wake up bug which was very annoying (the keyboard wouldn't work sometimes unless you disconnected it and reconnected it). They switched the blacklight controls to the IOS settings app, added more lighting levels, and added ambient lighting. This means the keyboard should adjust the backlight depending on the lighting levels. This isn't working for me so I don't know. If you guys know how to enable it, please let me know. Overall, AMAZING update. I'm so happy they finally fixed that wake up bug. It was very annoying.

    PiP Max size too small

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 08:32 AM PDT

Does anyone else find the max size on the PiP too small? One scenario where I think the iPad can really shine is taking notes in say notability or good notes and watching an online lecture in PiP, but with the current max size I find it hard to read text the prof is presenting

USB-C for video/power between 11" iPad Pro and 24" monitor?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 08:07 AM PDT

I am looking for a 24" monitor that supports USB-C video and power with an 11" iPad Pro. I have a very small area for the monitor and only want a power cord going from the wall to the display then a single USB-C cable connecting the iPad to the monitor for both video and power to the iPad Pro.

Does anyone use a Dell U2421HE or Dell P2419HC? Both monitors use USB-C for video and deliver up to 65W, but I don't see any reports of using these models with an iPad Pro.

Hey guys, I have an iPad 6. When I try to connect to the HDMI adaptor it wont mirror the screen, it makes two charging sounds and then shows "not charging" the adaptor works with my iPhone just fine. Can anyone help me with that?

    Fast forward!

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 12:20 PM PDT

I was today years old when I found out that if you long press on the forward-by-15-seconds button you can actually fast forward. 🤯 Works reverse as well! Hope people who didn't know this before find it handy.

Does an app like this exist?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 05:20 AM PDT

Hi, I'm looking for an app that is similar to something like Notability or Goodnotes, but with the option to have a sort of hyperlink/reference within the words to where if you click on it, it brings up a box or something of the sort to give additional information (such as a definition)

So for an example (excuse my poor handwriting lol)

    Page normally https://i.imgur.com/IVdhWXb.png

After clicking the highlighted area https://i.imgur.com/KXxREYZ.png

Does anything similar to this exist? The closest thing I can think of is LiquidText where you can draw arrows and then have a separate note which jumps to that portion of the PDF and vice versa, but that seems clunky for this use case!

Comic Book Reader Apps - simple opening of files for reading?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 07:10 AM PDT

Hello. I have a question about possible iPad comic book reader (CBR) apps and the simple opening of files. I would like to be able to open a comic book file from my cloud) or other location and have it go right to the beginning of the file in read mode.

I have tried two apps so far, and asked about a third, and none of them seem to support this.

    - One of them requires laborious local library creation and management every time a CBR file is tapped.

    - Another downloads the files without questions, but it throws them into a messy pile of local storage where I have to fish for it again to open it. I should not have to fish for a file to open it a 2nd time when I have already done this by finding it and opening it from the cloud.

Both of them also leave residue of locally stored files to eventually clean up. I don't want that: the file is in the cloud already. I just want to be able to read it.

So, I am looking for a simple but good reader without the overhead and file clutter. Please do not recommend Clunky, Panels, or Yacreader, as I have tried (or described) these above. (I have found one such app on Android and use it, but it is not available for IOS or iPadOS and likely never will be)

(Addendum: the CBR reader must be able to work with CBR files, and not require a separate app to temporarily alter the files. I feel this adds even more steps and overhead than dealing with download clutter, fishing for files a 2nd time, laborious library management, etc)

    Thanks!

How long does it take for a replacement iPad to arrive? (applecare+)

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 09:46 AM PDT

TLDR: Last week I went to genius bar, they said I need a replacement and had to be ordered, its been a week today and I've heard nothing. Anyone know how long Ill be waiting for my replacement?

Edit: the universe waited for me to make this post, as of 3:30pm it's here, now I just have to wait til tomorrow after work to go pick it up.

So last week I damaged my ipads screen and the device got a slight bend, so I took my iPad to the genius bar to get it replaced through applecare+. Unfortunately they didn't have the same one available that day so they had to order one for me to come pick up, and would contact me when it was in.

It has been 6 days and today will be a week since I went in and I've heard nothing. My local best buy (who are apple certified repair) have had multiple shipments of new ipad pros come in (my exact model) and sell out over the week, and if I was aware this would have been such a wait I would have gone to best buy and used them as they would have been able to replace it already.

Anyone know how long I'll be stuck without my ipad? Is this uncharacteristically long to be waiting, or is this normal? I'm just a little lost...

Thanks for any help or anyone whos had a similar experience for sharing

Upgrading from the 11" to the 12.9" feels giant!

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 08:05 PM PDT

I just got the 2020 12.9" ipad pro as I felt like the 11" (2018 version if anyone cares) felt cramped as an artist with medium/large sized hands. Since I use this tablet mainly for watching videos, doing notes for class, and drawing for my side career I felt it was important to get the biggest screen for the easier and more comfortable feeling within all of those.

Let me just say.. it's glorious. It feels like holding an actual laptop in your hands to use (could be seen as bad if your wrists hurt and thats an issue, but I absolutely love it.) I didn't think the difference in size would be too crazy, but its huge especially when you compare it side by side. Watching videos in bed feels like having a TV right in front of you, the drawing space is a huge difference and I'm loving it, and taking notes on this is a much more enjoyable experience.

Honestly though, if you're someone who just wants to take quick notes, stay in a tighter budget, or just doesn't like heavier technology stick with the 11 inch because for this its perfect!

If you're someone who is taking notes a LOT on this, doing a lot of art, and watching a lot of videos on this it is a very nice difference to go for the 12.9 inch ipad pro.

I don't know if this is helpful to anyone but I do see a lot of posts seeing whether or not to get the 11 inch or the 12.9 inch, so hopefully this helps some people make their decision. I also really wanted to rant as I was very excited to get some new tech.

Can I watch Amazon Prime on the browser?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 11:08 AM PDT

Guys is it possible watch Amazon Prime video on safari? My Ios version is too old (9) and cannot download the app. When I try to run a video on the browser Amazon asks me to download the app instead. Can I do something about that?
