have four 3rd gen Apple TV sitting in my desk drawer... what can I use them for?(besides paperweight)

they've been sitting in there since I swapped them out for Apple TV 4K during the free DirecTVNow deals...

I don't suppose there are people who still buy these older Apple TVs? (NOTE: this is not an offer to sell, so please don't contact me)

    Thanks!

Issue with Apple TV 4K with Sonos Beam

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 11:24 PM PDT

I bought a Sonos Beam a couple days ago to use with my tv and my AppleTV. It's connected via the HDMI-ARC port. I am absolutely in love with the sound quality of the Beam. However, I've been experiencing one issue (only applies when watching anything through the AppleTV): every few minutes both the tv and the Beam go down (black screen) for one or two seconds, which is very annoying. Is there anything I need to change in the settings for that not to happen?

    Thanks in advance!

    hello,

I have a monitor and apple-tv. the room is not too big - and I would like a recommendation to

    - receiver (since apple tv can't control volume and dell monitor can't control volume over HDMI)

    - apple TV compatible - so I can use Apple TV remote for volume

    - set of speakers

Little drop/slide down info box is missing when streaming

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 08:56 PM PDT

Hi there, I've been trying to figure out how to "get" this back, but I can't figure it out. I've been using HBO Max and I noticed that within the past few days, this little drop down box is gone, and it only shows "Subtitles" or "Audio". Any tips?

How to get 7.1 or Atmos out of my Apple TV?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 08:41 PM PDT

I have recently acquired an Apple TV 4K and I can't seem to get either 7.1 or Atmos out of my Apple TV but rather I can only get Stereo or 5.1 Dolby Digital as my options. I have a 7.1 receiver and I use the ARC port on my TV (doesn't have eARC) to send the signal to my receiver since it can handle 4K but was made before HDR was available to the public.

Apple Tab 4K seems to stop playing video from animated title erratically?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 07:49 PM PDT

Have been using Apple TV 4K for a while now. Recently it has been taking issue with playing audio from animated titles. (Totally fine on live action titles.)

Only link I can place is that sometimes we switch to the roku tv menu and use that Netflix/Hulu account instead. (Roommates separate accounts.)

Erratically it will resume functionality sometimes. (Okay it happened one other time and righted itself the next morning.)

    Any ideas?

Control MacBook with Apple TV remote ?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 08:18 AM PDT

I have an old MacBook which I connected to my tv and use it just for watching Netflix, Amazon prime, Apple TV+ etc. I also use apps like VLC to watch downloaded content.

To control it, I use app called Remote+ which does the job(mouse clicking, typing etc). Sometimes the experience isn't great, as app takes forever to start. I was wondering if Apple TV remote can be used to do this? Especially having mouse pointer, pausing and selecting Netflix content from safari etc? If yes, what tv remote would actually be compatible with MacBook Pro?

    Can’t watch The Boys!

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 11:45 AM PDT

Trying to watch The Boys on Amazon Prime. App works, but the actual show never plays. It's an Apple TV 4K running latest operating system. I can watch pretty much all other content on Prime (Get Duked didn't play either). I was able to watch it on my other tv (4th Gen). When I went back to the 4K and "resumed" the show, it was just static. I've manually closed app, restarted Apple TV, made sure OS is up to date, deleted the app, reinstalled, and it's still occurring. I wanted to run it by y'all before restoring Apple TV to factory and deregistering device with Amazon.

    Any other thoughts or suggestions?

Sound drop out in latest tvOS14 beta?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2020 07:55 AM PDT

I'm on the most recent tvOS 14 beta. I'd switch back in a heartbeat if I could because I've had nothing but issues (apps no longer work, etc.).
The most recent issue I have is audio drop out. I'll be watching a movie, and randomly the audio drops. No error on the soundbar, no "auto shut off" for inactivity, just one second you have audio, and then you don't - the movie keeps going. If I hit Menu and then go back to playing the film, it's okay.
Just curious if anyone else is having this issue and if you do what you might have done to fix it. I'm using an LG soundbar that supports Atmos if it matters.
