MacBook Pro (13 inch, early 2011)_ Bluetooth connectivity issues.

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 06:14 PM PDT

Hello everyone. I've been having so much trouble with my MacBook Pro's Bluetooth. Here are the details:

Device: MacBook Pro (13 inch, early 2011) OS: macOS High Sierra (Version: 10.13.6) Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 Apple Bluetooth Software version: 6.0.7f10 Bluetooth firmware version: v42 c847

The problem: I turn on Bluetooth on my computer and it just doesn't detect anything. It is as if there are no nearby devices.

What I have tried so far: Computer restart Bluetooth module reset, through the debug menu Delete the Bluetooth .plist files Completely wiped my hard drive and did a Complete fresh new macOS install, followed by all the software updates.

I have tested several Bluetooth devices and I'm able to pair those with other macbook computers, and iPhones.

I don't know what else to do. I searched for self guided solutions and tried everything I found. No luck. Does this sound like a hardware issue?

MacBook Pro 2017 doesn't show full range of colours? You can see in the image (from netflix) there are not enough grey colours to complete the gradient. Any fix?

    Screen recording question

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 09:28 PM PDT

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this but looking for some advice or pointers on this.

I'd like to screen record multiple videos at once, including the audio from each video respectively. Is this a possible thing to do on a macbook?

If it's not, is there a way to record a video (with its internal audio) playing in the background while still being able to use my laptop to do other things when it's recording?

Time Machine backup has two options?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 07:30 PM PDT

Hello! So I replaced the SSD in my MacBook Air and upgraded to the newest version of MacOS. Now I'm trying to restore my system using Migration Assistant, but under my Time Machine backup it shows two options, one labeled Data and the other Media. They were both backed up on the same day, but I'm not seeing a practical difference between the two. Has anybody encountered this before? If I restore from one, will I be missing data from the other?

    macbook external display config tips?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 03:31 PM PDT

I heard the rumors that if connected to two external displays, it's better to connect one display to the ports on one side, and the other one on other side. is it only true for usb-c ports? I have an older model pro which has micro dp ports on left side and a hdmi port on the right side. Was wondering if I shall invest aa hdmi cable on the right side port.

When I use both micro DP ports, the fan acts up.

Is this a good time to buy MacBook Pro 16 inch 64 GB RAM?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 07:14 PM PDT

I'm debating whether to buy a 16 inch Macbook Pro with 64 GB RAM now or wait for the new release. I purchased 13 inch Macbook Pro with 16 GB RAM in Feb 2019 and I was sad when the new release (2020 13 inch) had better qualities (32 GB RAM) and price. Now 16 GB RAM doesn't work for me as I work with datasets typically require 30-40 GB RAM (I use confidential data hence Cloud isn't an option). Also, I need a laptop (not a desktop) as I travel frequently. The tradeoff here is that I can get airpod free now and my "old" Macbook's trade-in value is not too bad.

    Thanks!!

    MacBook Pro 13

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 11:32 AM PDT

I've been looking at a MacBook Pro 13 inch to use as my main desktop on a monitor along with an iPad Pro as a secondary device.

I was just wondering if it was worth upgrading to the "high-end" model with the 10th gen i5 and 4 thunderbolt ports. I will mainly be using the device for school work (I'm a business student) I want it to last me around 4-5 years. I also tend to have a lot of tabs open

I was also considering a MacBook air, but I was thinking that wouldn't be great long-term.

Can anyone give me some advice, thanks!!

    Upgrade MacBook Pro 2019 Storage

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 09:19 AM PDT

I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) with storage of 128gb. I got it from my company so I had no control over the storage. Now I am at a point where I cannot use it without an upgrade of storage. I know the SSD is soldered and it cant be upgraded. I did try to ask the company for an upgrade of the system, but its a startup and its not possible from their side. I am ready to buy some external storage devices but I am not sure if I can use it to install applications to it. (I need to install applications on this storage.)

I have also heard about NAS storages. Will that be of any help here??. I am ready to compromise on the portability. Please help me out and let me know what my options are here.

Note. This is my first mac

    Thanks in advance

Safe? Clamshell mode while on bootcamp gaming

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 02:24 PM PDT

Hi, I have a macbook 16 8core I9 4gb 5500m 16gb ram model. I plan on using an external 1080p monitor while playing games such as Apex Legends, Dota 2 and more. I usually play and get around 80-85c heat while playing Apex at Low settings and around 75-80c in dota 2 at high.

I am concerned about the heat coming from the space above the touch bar if I use it while the lid is closed. It gets really hot and I'm worried that if I use it in close clamshell mode it will affect the main monitor and might cause problem.

My question is, Is there a way that I can set it to secondary monitor display only and leave my macbook open? Is it advisable to use it that way or it has no diferrence even if I use it closed.

And also, can someone teach me or point me a guide about what is cpu throttling on macbook? I have a really hard time getting it.

    Monitor for the MB

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 08:52 AM PDT

Hey, I've got an older MB-Pro (early 2015) and would like to connect it to a separate monitor at home to have multiple windows next to each other open. (For stuff study related since my tiny 13" can get quite frustrating sometimes) However since this is an older MB, I get confused with all the comparability issues.

(Price range: shouldn't go above 1000€ but I am happy for every buck saved) Are there any recommendations you could give ?

    Thanks in advance :)

My Macbook Pro says Service Recommended

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 07:36 AM PDT

I got a macbook pro approximately 1.5 years ago, but the computer already says that the battery needs to be serviced or replaced. Is this normal or is there a way to fix this? I need my laptop for a lot of things and I can't really afford to have it sent away for a couple weeks to be repaired. It also is not that old and I don't understand why the battery is bad.

Anyone use Tuxera for transfer to NTFS formatted USB Drive? Why so slow?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 04:49 AM PDT

When I transfer downloads and files to a NTFS formatted USB drive from my Macbook I have used Tuxera. The process is very slow. In fact without it it still is slow to transfer files to a USB drive on Macbook. Why? PC transfers to any USB storage drive is fast. I cannot get the same experience on a Mac. Suggestions?

Picture transfer from Mac computer to Android device

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 02:41 AM PDT

Picture transfer from Mac computer to Android device

It's pretty common for users to want to move photos from Mac to Android. For instance, if you've lost your phone and purchased a new one, you'll probably want to move some of your old photo albums onto it. MacDroid can quickly and conveniently carry out this task for you. While it's simple to download and upload photos from Android to PC, Mac is more complicated. We're going to take you step-by-step through how to move photos from Mac to Android using MacDroid

First off, we're going to look at how to carry out this task in MTP connection mode:

    1. The first step here is to connect your MTP/Android device to your Mac via a USB cable. If you encounter any issues later on, the first thing you should do is double-check that the devices are properly connected, as this is a common cause of issues.
    2. On the MacDroid interface, make sure that the program is set to MTP. Depending on your Android device settings, you may need to authorise the file action. To do this, simply go to the toast that should now be displayed on your device, and select file transfer.
    3. Once this has been completed, you'll receive a confirmation message from MacDroid telling you that your device is now connected. It also gives you the option to watch a short instructional video if you have any queries or questions, and a troubleshooting guide if the device is still empty.
    4. Your Android device should now appear in the sidebar to the left of the program, with the status 'Not Mounted'. At this point, you have the option to rename your device for future reference. Click the 'Mount' button in the bottom-right of the interface to interact with the device.
    5. Now that the device is mounted, you can explore the files on your phone. You'll be able to access any information saved to the card, as well as all the information saved on the phone. To move files, simply go to the Pictures folder, and move photos from your Mac to your Android device.
