I have two 24 external viewsonic monitors connected to my mac mini via displayport to usb-c cable. my right screen is rotated to 270°. almost every time when I restart it switches up the settings so the left screen is rotated. I tried switching the cables but nothing changes. When I boot into windows the settings are saved and it doesn't happen. What can I do? [link] [comments]

Catalina 10.15.6 is causing issues on my 2017 iMac 27 inch with 8 GB RAM Posted: 18 Jul 2020 10:48 AM PDT I'm not sure if I'm the only one experiencing this but since installing 10.15.6 a few days ago i'm experiencing random lagginess, the spinning Beachball for anywhere from 10 to 15 seconds I'm trying to check my email or open a new tab in Firefox, etc. I haven't installed any new apps recently, I ran malware bites just to make sure that I didn't have any issues there, came up clean. I'm a little lost on what to do. I've had this computer for over three years now and I've had no issues before this. Is anyone else experiencing this? From browsing here and discussions.Apple.com it doesn't look like it which is kind of worrying because it means it's not a bug that they're going to fix. So does anyone have any suggestions on how to diagnose this? How to make it go away? Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jul 2020 07:53 PM PDT Upgraded iMac Late 2013 to Catalina. Symptom 1: When I login through Anydesk or CRD I see my desktop for a split second and then the lock screen comes up. While Anydesk is open, I can press 'switch user' in CRD which then shows me my screensaver (which is disabled mind you). Then if I start moving around the screen saver quits and I can use my desktop in CRD -- but anydesk still sees the switch user screen (the available users and the sleep/restart/shut down options). Symptom 2: Or what I have now where I just can't connect. CRD just spins and Anydesk times out. (I know the iMac is online and running some programs) Symptom 3: After a fresh reboot, where no inactivity issues should have hit, I was using Anydesk and then closed the CRD window. It immedialitely kicked me back to the lock screen. I then went nack on via CRD and was able to see the screen saver again as in Symptom 1. These are the related options I can think of: Energy Saver: Prevent auto sleep when display off, turn off display after 10 min, put disks to sleep when possible, wake for network, auto start on power failure, enable & disable (tried both) power nap. Screen Saver: Start after Never Amphetamine: Launch at login, start session when launch or waking sleep, indefinite duration, allow display sleep, (no screen saver, no forced sleep). Lock screen after 15 min inactivity, allow display sleep when screen locked. [link] [comments]
Catalina does not change to night mode automatically Posted: 18 Jul 2020 07:41 PM PDT I read that some people have this issue, the solution is to deactivate the block screen It worked for me... I know its not safe but... it works [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jul 2020 10:11 PM PDT After installing the 10.15.6 update the login wallpaper is my user wallpaper, not the Catalina wallpaper. If I go to Macintosh/System/Library/Desktop Pictures the old Catalina.heic is there, but it's not being used. How do I go back to using the Catalina pic for login? I'm sure there's an easy answer for this, but Google is failing me. [link] [comments]
Right top USB-C port of my MBP 15' 2018 stopped working. Posted: 18 Jul 2020 04:45 PM PDT So here we go, this port stopped working in my MBP, I tried to restart the NVRAM, PRAM, SMC, everything possible. I ran the diagnostics and got no error message. It didn't get sorted. The charger show it's connected when the cable is in only a single position (not charging in both sides) and when it recognizes, the battery shows "Battery is not charging". My iPhone X also doesn't connect even using the official USB-C to lighting cable. I am pretty sure that the port is dead. The Mac is out of warranty (magically after 1 year the problem started), will I need to pay for the fix of this hardware failure? Edit: I am in Ireland. [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jul 2020 12:57 PM PDT I'm not an OSX user, but trying to deal with my dad's laptop which has completely run out of space to the point of being non-functional. It's a small drive, only 128GB. I managed to free up about 20GB by killing his gmail IMAP data (somehow this ended up here, he doesn't even use Mail). The other largest components of data re iPhoto and photos, this is like 50% of his machine or something. Have a few questions:

Posted: 18 Jul 2020 07:33 PM PDT Hello, I tried to update my 2017 MacBook Pro, and the update failed for no given reason. Now whenever I close my MacBook, instead of sleeping it tries to restart, and every time it restarts it boots into the update drive (while trying to update, causing startup to take several minutes), which just shows me a screen that says the update fails, and the only option it presents to me is a button to restart. The only way to break the loop of restarting and being shown that screen is to hold the option key on startup, then choose my main disk as the one to boot into. How can I get rid of the update drive so it stops doing this? It doesn't show up in Settings > Startup Disk, and has been incredibly infuriating to deal with, especially since my MacBook shuts off several minutes after being removed from a power source, so I have to deal with it restarting more frequently than I'd like. Thank you. [link] [comments]

Hide the Dock until I hit ⌥⌘D to show it (not auto hide/show) Posted: 18 Jul 2020 08:06 AM PDT Is there any way to completely hide the Dock so that it only shows if I hit the keyboard shortcut ⌥⌘D, not when I hover the mouse over the edge of the screen? In System Preferences I only see an option for Auto hide/show the dock. If I uncheck this, the Dock appears. If I use the hotkey to hide the Dock, the option is automatically checked for me. Hmm. So it seems like the only options MacOS is giving me is either show it all the time or auto hide/show it when the mouse hovers over the edge of the screen. But I don't want this auto hide/show. Because whenever I accidentally run my mouse to the edge of the screen, the dock annoyingly pops up, getting in my way. I only have a 13-in laptop so I don't have a lot of screen space and as a result need to move my mouse to the edge of the screen often. What I want is to completely hide the dock so that moving the mouse to the edge of the screen doesn't bring it up. I only want it to reappear when I use the hotkey ⌥⌘D. Is there any way to do this? 09 Mac mini 3,1 unstable in Catalina Posted: 18 Jul 2020 05:47 AM PDT Hi guys, Recently installed Catalina with DosDude 1's patcher tool on my 3,1 2009 Mac Mini. It performs surprisingly well for the age/spec, however it has a habbit of kernel panicking/rebooting (maybe once an hour or so). Any suggestions (other than downgrade macOS) to resolve this, or am I likely going to have to drop back a couple versions? [link] [comments]

Struggling to install Windows 10 in Mac (121GB) Posted: 18 Jul 2020 10:38 AM PDT Hi, I tried going the boot camp route but it won't let me partition Windows further than 37GB. The reason I need a Windows 10 is to use Power BI desktop and might do some programming work. I heard about VirtualBox and Parallel. What's my best option? Thank you [link] [comments] |
