| Apple TV 4K and Dolby Vision with Philips TVs Posted: 19 Jul 2020 02:44 AM PDT There seems to be a DV implementation problem in ATV when it comes to some TV makers, especially Philips. First of all, ATV+ shows are unwatchable in DV with grey inverted washed out scenes all over the place, it seems like for some scenes the metadata isn't transferred properly. This is for everything in ATV+, Netflix is not affected by this. Netflix however (and ATV+ too) suffer from another issue: The 8-bit RGB tunneling the Apple TV uses to encapsulate the 12-bit DV content leads to extreme posterization and banding on color gradients (like in the sky, a heavily visible thing in life and thus also in all kinds of tv shows). This has driven me mad, and no amount of cables, different HDMI ports and settings solves this. This is also the case on NVIDIA Shield TV's Netflix app, so I'm assuming the implementation of DV is the same on both these boxes. Apple doesn't seem to have acknowledge this is a problem, but there is a number of Philips TV owners who have this issue with the ATV, but not on the TVs internal apps. My specific set is the PUS7304, but it seems to appear also on OLEDs. Has anyone seen anything on this, maybe some magic solution I've just not been able to google? [link] [comments]  |

| Posted: 18 Jul 2020 10:47 AM PDT Basically I bought my parents an apple tv a few months ago, they currently use one of their apple accounts for the tv as a whole. However I pay for apple tv the service, and they would like to watch it using my account. Is there anyway to sign into just apple tv with my account on their system? or do I have to switch the accounts on the device for them to be able to use it? [link] [comments]  |

| Apple TV controller suggestion Posted: 19 Jul 2020 02:55 AM PDT I have an Apple TV, and I am thinking about getting a controller. My primary use would be to stream my PC games using Steam Link, but I am also considering Apple Arcade (I will give the trial period a try and then choose whether to keep Arcade or not). So, the reason I am writing here is that I don't know which controller to buy: a Xbox One controller, a DualShock 4 controller, or a MFi controller? Any suggestion will be appreciated. It's started 2 days back and every video buffers on start and the (often) midstream a few times. Tried a few other apps (at+, acorn, Vimeo) and they don't have issues, so it's unlikely my network. | Use it as Home hub, without all my photos available to anyone Posted: 18 Jul 2020 05:20 AM PDT I'm having a hard time having my new Apple TV (4th gen) as a Home Hub without exposing my photos to anyone using it. If I logout from my iCloud account to have my photos unavailable, the Home Hub is disconnected. If I keep it logged in, anyone could enable Photos in the Settings app. Any workarounds?
