2012 MacBook Pro in need of battery replacement and maybe more? Posted: 27 Jul 2020 07:11 PM PDT Hello! My only laptop, aMacBook Pro from 2012, is giving me a message about replacing the the battery soon. If not plugged in, the battery only lasts about 1.5 - 2 hours give or take. It also run incredibly and the fan run really loud pretty much constantly. While it's not my main computer at the moment, it is still useful for a variety of my hobbies. It'd be great if I could get it running somewhat normally. Ideally, I'd love to get some advice on whether I should pay to replace the battery or attempt to do it myself, if there are solid guides, and if anyone has any advice for dealing with the fans/ heat issues. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jul 2020 07:07 PM PDT I get it, the Air isn't made for sustained heavy stress or pro tasks due to the thermal throttle, the Cinebench scores are lower than even the 2020 cheapest MacBook Pro, the display brightness is slightly lower than the MacBook Pro and the color accuracy is not P3. Despite literally ALL these factors, and just the $200 price difference to get the basic Pro with faster 8th generation i5 vs the 10th generation low powered Quad Core i5 Air, I still think the MacBook Air edges out simply for its slanted design. Typing on that laptop especially with the magic keyboard is literally a heavenly experience! Typing on MacBook Pro on the other hand, especially if it's placed up on a desk feels awkward and literally hurts my wrists with that 0 degree angled, sharp edgy, boxy surface, even if the chassis thickness is not that much. On the lap it feels alright; given your hands are at a more natural angle. But I cannot believe that people who are usually quick to criticize every little thing aren't bashing its design. For me, at least, it was the deal breaker. I got the Air despite its said performance limitations because I'm not going to push it to its limits for a foreseeable future. I really wanted to get the base MacBook Pro for the better thermals and raw CPU power, but that design was a no go! What are y'all's thoughts on this? [link] [comments]
Should I have not gotten this? Posted: 27 Jul 2020 09:32 PM PDT I recently came into possession of a MacBook 2008 4,1 but I can't get GarageBand or iMovie on it and Safari won't open most websites. And I can't even connect my iPhone 7 to it. Is there any way to make this usable or am I out of luck? I am new to Apple and this is actually my first time owning an iPhone or a Mac at all. So any advice would help so much! [link] [comments]
How are you shielding your usb c from interference? Posted: 27 Jul 2020 11:43 AM PDT I just bought a new USB c adaptor but noticed my Mac lost WiFi signal despite the signal showing good strength. It either loses signal completely or has a ridiculous 1,000 m/s ping—basically unusable. I am aware a couple of people use aluminium foil. So was curious—what are you using to shield your USB c from interference with wifi/Bluetooth? Or are you even having that problem with your USB c adaptor? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jul 2020 06:14 PM PDT I entered the serial number of my brand new macbook pro onto imei.info without thinking and am kindda paranoid about what they could potentially do with it... They would require proof of purchase to be able to use my S/N maliciously right? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jul 2020 06:10 PM PDT I just recently got a new Macbook air 2020 for university this upcoming year, and I was looking on Amazon for dongles and I found a couple cheap ones that have a bunch of ports. In these dongles it says it works for Macbook air 2018-2019 but not 2020. I was wondering if these would also work for the 2020 model or do I need to find different ones? Thanks in advance! Best place to buy a cheap unibody macbook in good condition? Posted: 27 Jul 2020 05:29 PM PDT Hello' Unibody Macbooks worth it at around 50-100£, any places you can find decent ones? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jul 2020 04:27 PM PDT Hi all, I'm moving to MacOS from Windows 10 soon and I was wondering, does the migration tool wipe the files from my PC or copy them over? I'd like to have them backed up so if it does remove them, what can I use as an alternative? [link] [comments]
[MBP 2020] Any consensus on the hubs/docks for macbooks? Posted: 27 Jul 2020 11:48 AM PDT Hello everyone! I'm considering buying a macbookpro, and i'm still hesitating with a PC alternative, for many reasons (unpleasant keyboard, lame GPU, no possible upgrade, ridiculous overpricing for any option...) - but the main thing that bothers me is the connectivity. As many semi-professional editors, i have still a lot of USB-A drives to use, and will need a reliable hdmi port. I saw a lot of topics here about hubs, but almost only with people answering "mine works fine" - so it's hard to have a general picture of the situation. Is there any consensus yet among MBP users on that kind of things? The only devices which seems to fit that demand are the CalDigit products, but we talk about 200€ here (and the MPB is already expensive enough). Nothing is cheaper AND reliable (don't need 6572 ports, just a few usb and one HDMI)? Would you know a serious website (the same kind as notebookcheck) which has made deep comparative review on that? I suppose (without being sure of it) that the reliable hubs are the one working on Thunderbolt 3 (and not USBc), maybe because no or less lack of speed when several devices are connected, but i'm note sure on it, and if someone knows i would be interested in order to make a better choice (i will use those hub for editing on external DD, so speed problem would be a really big problem). Thanks all! (and sorry for my english, i'm not a native speaker) [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jul 2020 11:48 AM PDT New to mac so just want to be educated on good machine temperatures, I'm using firefox as my main browser and I use Spotify for music. They're the only apps open as far as I'm aware and I seem to be running quite warm, temps, my specs are 2.00GHz quadcore 10th gen intel core i5 turbo boost to 3.8GHz 16GB 512GB SSD underneath it does feel quite warm. even when typing I can feel the heat. Using a 2015 MacBook Air for CompSci Posted: 27 Jul 2020 03:17 PM PDT I am currently running Ubuntu on a ThinkPad T480 and I honestly just don't enjoy the laptop. My wife has a MacBook Pro that just always seems to run great and has a wonderful user experience. I just can't afford the price tag for a new one. My ideal budget is hovering around $700-800 USD. So, I've been leaning more towards the 2015s that have been refurbished. Right now I have my eyes on a 2015 MacBook Air with 8GB RAM and an upgraded 500 GB SSD. I use my laptop primarily for middle of the road programming and running virtual machines, but only one VM at once. Will the 2015 MacBook Air be good enough for what I'd be using it for? Will it handle some machine learning programs? If not, are there any other MacBooks you recommend for $1000 at most? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jul 2020 02:38 PM PDT Hi all, I recently purchased the MacBook Pro 13" with extended memory (16gb) and have been having overheating issues ever since I took it out of the box. The first day of usage I opened safari with about 3-5 tabs of videos and other sites to set up logins and stuff. after about 10-20 mins it got really hot and I just let it cool down paying no mind to it since I thought it was just warming up b/c it was the first time I used it. it still got very hot, particularly above and under the middle of the Touch Bar area, the second time around. I looked up ways to solve this and I found that resetting SMC and other troubleshooting tips never worked. I went to the apple store and they took a look and said it was running fine. They ran some diagnostics and said it was normal (which I think is bs since a 2000$ MacBook should not have trouble running safari and non intensive apps/games) I was wondering if anyone has any shared experience and has some help they can provide me. returning it is currently out of the question since I'm a student and need some way to complete assignments and whatnot this month) [link] [comments]
I get this pop up every time I open my macbook. WHY?! Posted: 27 Jul 2020 12:01 PM PDT I have a macbook pro that i got in 2016. I've been paying insurance for this stupid thing since i can remember so i'm posting this to see if anyone can tell me why im having these issues so maybe i could try to get a new one through insurance.... ANYWAYS: 1) I get this black pop screen EVERY TIME i open my laptop. Has been happening everyday for about 1.5 years if i remember correctly. even if it's dead or alive i get this screen. everytime it turns on this is the first screen i see: https://i.imgur.com/quMR57v.jpg ...i press enter then i type in my password once, then it refreshes the screen then i have to type my password AGAIN. 2) Then this box pops up: https://i.imgur.com/ALcncGR.jpg ... cancel will close all my previous pages i had up and open will reopen all my previous pages (sometimes works sometimes doesn't) 3) THEN this box pops up: https://i.imgur.com/mZumm9f.jpg ... when i click ignore it goes away and i'm left with my home screen with nothing opened. i have to go to finder and type in google chrome to get to a browser. if i click report it sends a report to apple to review it.. MY ASS. WHY DOES IT DO THIS EVERY TIME i've been off my laptop for a few hours. AND ALSO: My laptop fan is always goin. like 80% of the time my laptop is HOT and the fan is running. if it's on, off, charged OR DEAD. Some mornings before going to work i'll hear it running randomly and feel it and it's so hot i'm scared it's gonna start a fire when i leave for work so i leave it on my stove top. Why am i having so many issues? i use my laptop daily! Any advice would be appreciated thank you!! —a 21 year old girl who knows nothing about any of this :) [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Jul 2020 11:26 AM PDT Which Laptop Should I Get!!?? My 2 Options are the 2020 MacBook Air i3 / i5 8gb Ram Or 2020 MacBook Pro i5 8gb Ram I can't get anything more expensive than the Pro. And don't want to get i5/16gb Air cuz then why not get the Pro instead I'm going to be doing basic tasks but want this laptop to last me 4/5 years I'm going to be using Ms Office, Netflix, Basic MacOS apps, Web Browsing and Video Streaming I know the Air can do all of this but which is the better option to last me 4/5 years and work well (good battery, doesn't overheat, no fan noise) Thanks [link] [comments]
When I command-click using tap to click, it almost always takes 3 taps to register (Macbook Pro 16") Posted: 27 Jul 2020 10:22 AM PDT I have "tap to click" enabled. When opening links in my browser, I usually use command-click so it opens the link in another tab. I do this hundreds of times a day. I just upgraded from a 2013 MBP 15" to a 2019 MBP 16". Now, about 90% of the time, when I command-click (using tap to click), it doesn't register the click until I do it 3 times. Not 2 times, not 4 times, but exactly 3 times. This used to work perfectly on my previous MBP. If I command-click by pushing down on the trackpad (instead of using tap to click), it works perfectly. Also, tap to click works perfectly when it's not a command-click. Any ideas? Update: I'm using macOS Catalina 10.5.5 [link] [comments]
Any redditors without butterfly keyboard issues so far ? Posted: 27 Jul 2020 09:01 AM PDT Hi, As the butterfly keyboard problematic seems to be widespread and considering that one usually only sees people complaining about issues on the internet (and less reporting when things just work), I was wondering if there are users here who did not have any issues with their butterfly keyboards so far. I personally have a 12' inch Macbook from 2016 which is still going strong. Many thanks [link] [comments]
Order Still Processing for Upgrade MAC Air 2020 Posted: 27 Jul 2020 05:19 AM PDT Bought a MacBook Air 2020 Friday night around 11,, upgraded to intel 7, the order is still processing but I'm expected to get it before August 18th? I'm just a tad concerned cause I'm starting classes relatively soon for the semester around that date lol. Should I just keep waiting or call apple support at some point if it doesn't update? Any advice would be appreciated! [link] [comments] |
