    WWDC 2020 Information.

    GOOOOOOOOOOD MOOOOOORNINGGGGGGG r/IPHONE!

The day is finally upon us, in less than 10 hours WWDC 2020 will kick off! This year things are being run a little differently due to the global situation surrounding the pandemic - meaning this years event will be virtual in its entirety.

Want to know at what time the event is? Use the 'When is Keynote' website

Looking to read more about what has been leaked, or is rumored for iOS 14? Read MacRumors' iOS 14 Roundup!

Feel free to join our discord server to discuss the event live!

    ____

There are a couple things us Mods would like to make everyone aware of before the event starts:

    • An hour before the event kicks off (9am PDT/12pm ET), the subreddit will be put into 'lockdown.' Meaning, no one will be able to post content to the subreddit. The subreddit will be taken out of 'lockdown' an hour after the event has concluded. The Moderators will be using a lot of discretion once the subreddit resumes posts, to remove duplicate threads. So please make an effort to check /new before you post any news etc.
    • We will not be running our own discussion megathreads (Pre-Event, Event, Post-Event). We have instead chosen to partner up with r/Apple and use their discussion threads instead, so users are at least in one place rather than having multiple discussion threads across multiple Apple subreddits. We will, however, be posting threads as things are announced and posted in blog sites when the sub is in lockdown mode - so you can discuss specific features in those threads as they are announced! We have a group of Moderators and users who have volunteered to help us with this.
    • We will be running a live thread, this is for those who can't tune in live, but still want to receive the latest info as it is revealed by Apple. The link to this live thread will be posted in a couple hours.
    • We may have a 'Live Chat Discussion' post up during the event, this isn't 100% confirmed. We ran one of these for the 2019 September event. It's basically a post combined with Reddit chat.

    ____

    Where To Watch:

    ____

With that being said, i guess feel free to discuss your hopes and dreams for iOS 14!

Ladies and gentleman, Always on display does NOT require an LTPO display.

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 01:56 PM PDT

I know a lot of people know this, but some people believe the reason why iPhones don't have always on display is because it doesn't have the LTPO technology found in apple watches.

Always on display works reliably on any phone with an OLED display. LTPO is NOT NEEDED. It's only used on the apple watches for less power consumption, since they have very small batteries, and battery life can be an issue.

OLED displays have each pixel emitting their own light. The less pixels used, the less amount of power needed, allowing Always on display to be possible, while using a small amount of energy.

LTPO is designed for OLED and allows the refresh rate to be dynamically change depending on the situation. It saves a significant amount of energy on devices with very small batteries (like the apple watch), but is not needed on current phones since OLED technology is more than enough.

So for iPhones with an OLED display (X, XS, XS Max, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max), always on display is 100% possible. We just have to wait until Apple decides to add it to iOS.

Most android phones have always on display. They don't use LTPO technology.
