ATV4K Displays Bizarre Half Green Screen Problem With 4K HDR Monitor

    The Problem

I recently purchased the ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ and I've had my ATV4K since the first one originally came out in late 2017. The ATV4K refuses to correctly display anything above 4K@30hz SDR using the HDMI 2.0 port on the monitor. Whenever I try to use 4k@60hz SDR or HDR (my preferred settings) the ATV's output is horribly wrong, looking like this. I've tried both the cable that the monitor came with (which correctly displays 4K@60hz with HDR on windows 10 through my GTX 1080Ti on the PG27UQ) and these monoprice HDMI certified cables.

    Troubleshooting

I've confirmed that the HDMI 2.0 port on my monitor works by using the included HDMI cable with my PC (again achieving desired settings), but I have not completely isolated the problem to my ATV. I happen to have access to another ATV4K which is maybe a year newer and the same problem occurs. I also have an old Roku 4 which should be capable of outputting 4K@60hz but I get the same half green screen with anything above 4K@30hz there as well. I can get the ATV4K to display 1080p HDR and 4K@30hz SDR, but not 4k@30hz HDR or above. This seems so bizarre to me. I first thought it was the monitor, but it runs 4K@60hz HDR fine on Windows 10. Could it be the cables? I have 5 of the monoprice cables and have tried each of them as well as the included cable with the monitor. Any help would be much appreciated. This is a terribly convoluted problem so I've tried to include as much detail as possible to aid in any pursuit of fixing this.

TL;DR: ATV4K outputs this when attempting 4K@60hz HDR on my new ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ.

    Batman V Superman

Does anyone know if the Batman V Superman on the UK store is also the extended version?

Edit: I have found my answer. The answer is yes. You get both versions.

AppleTV 4K stopped responding to remote? Remote is charged and still can control devices via IR. Tried restarting AppleTV and it didn’t fix it.

Edit: Nevermind. I unpaired and repaired it. Works again.

AppleTV 4K - subtitles keep reactivating.

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 08:11 PM PDT

    Happens across multiple apps.

Consistently happens on Seinfeld in the Hulu app. Each time a new episode starts subtitles are on.

Also happened with a movie we rented through the AppleTV app.

Obviously we usually use Siri to turn them off, but I've also tried swiping down and turning them off manually.

How do I get the music/somg screensaver when I'm airplay streaming from iPhone to ATV4k?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 07:39 PM PDT

It happens sometimes and it doesn't. Right now the main menu is up, with music from my iPhone streaming to ATV. However sometimes the screensaver comes up where it's showing the song playing. I'm not talking about screen mirroring either. I can't change songs obviously or skip reverse with remote, but it's better than looking at all the apple tv+ show slides switching over and over.

    Latest update screwed my resolution.

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 09:17 AM PDT

So the latest update has messed with my setup and I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience. Basically I've got the top left quarter of the screen visible and that's it. It's like it's super zoomed in. I don't have accessibility zoom on, and if I plug the Apple TV directly into the tv, it goes back to normal. So it is something to do with the AV receiver setup. I've checked that the Xbox still works fine through the receiver and I actually checked another Apple TV which hadn't had the update and that worked fine too..... until the auto update occurred and then that one is now messed up too! Is this something to do with the update rendering my hdmi on my receiver out of date?.... is there a workaround to fix this or is it a case of replacing my receiver?.... which seems ridiculous? Thanks in advance.

    4k youtube support?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 12:47 PM PDT

Will we ever get apple tv 4k to support 4k videos on youtube? I vaguely remember its a video format issue with apple that doesn't allow 4k content on its youtube app.

Decided to dig up my ATV 3rd Gen, how do I change the screen aspect ratio?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 08:20 AM PDT

I decided to dig up my old ATV, and hooked it up to my old 5:4 Dell monitor. The issue is, that no matter which resolution I choose, the ATV keeps scaling everything to 5:4, instead of giving me a letter box or something... How do I change this?

    This is a 3rd gen 2013 model, NOT a 4th gen

    HBO Max with Harmony remote

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 07:11 AM PDT

Have been having an odd issue with the HBO Max app and our Harmony remote. Using the Harmony Pro BT Apple TV device profile. Couldn't go back in the HBO Max app. Like it lost the mapping of menu and back buttons to the ATV remote menu button. But only in the HBO Max app. Added a mapping to menu to an unused button on the Harmony (record), and now HBO Max works normally, even with the menu button on the Harmony that wasn't working in HBO Max before. Weird.

What does the apple TV subscription cover?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 06:10 AM PDT

I just bought an ipad Pro, I found out it comes with a 1 year free subscription to apple TV.

I excitedly opened the apple TV app to see tons of shows and movies. I opened up detective pikachu thinking I'd be able to watch it.

They want $8.99 to watch it once?

    So.... This isn't like Netflix?

For example you pay a sub fee to get Netflix and can watch anything on net flix.

But apple TV is $89 per year and.... Its just a shop to buy movies and shows?

What does the $89 subscription buy if everything on apple TV costs money to watch?

    I'm really confused?

Is it like gilmourse? You pay a membership fee to be allowed to shop at gilmourse but of course you have to pay for the food? Lol. I'm just trying to make sense of this?

Or! Will I not actually be charged when watching the movie? I thought that might be it. But I don't wanna risk it.
