If I type "wa" it's supposed to be replaced with "WhatsApp" but it comes out as "WhatsAppatsApp" and it's the same with all of the other ones I have. The last few letters are repeated. I already tried deleting them and adding them again and it didn't work, as well as deleting them, restarting my mac, adding them again. It's a Macbook Air early 2015 if it matters. Thanks! It is only showing me SSD temp. Scoured the options and I am still not seeing anything that would enable this. Any suggestions would be great. (left speaker buzzing and bad) (normal approach not working)` Posted: 24 May 2020 08:11 PM PDT I spilled water on my computer (yes, actually!) and my left speaker stopped working. It buzzes badly. So I want to use right speaker only. If I drag the audio balance slider to one side, it bops itelf right back to the middle and the volume cuts itself in half. Not what I want! And if I mute one side in Audio MIDI, it unmutes itself again afterwards. What can I do to permanently disable left speaker? Thank you! [link] [comments]  | ||

| Help with restoring data to Mid 2010 MacBook Posted: 24 May 2020 01:19 PM PDT Hello, I need anyone's help with getting the data back on my fiancées laptop. She has a mid 2010 MacBook, A1342, and the other day she went to turn it on and the OS X utilities screen popped up. When she pushed reinstall OS X it says that the drive, "Recovery HD," is locked and so she cannot do anything from there. She is about to start grad school in the fall and needs it back, with all the data, because her thesis and other important items were on there. I have tried all that I can with my technical abilities and have failed so far. Assuming the data can be salvaged, and with everything going on in the world as to spend as little as possible, we would like to still make this laptop work by replacing the HDD to SSD. Would it be easier to try and salvage the data by putting the HDD on a dock, connecting it to my MacBook Pro (late 2013 model), and then transferring the data with some program to the new SSD? Or can I just send it off to Apple for them to do it? I used WintoUSB to install Windows 10 on my Sandisk Extreme SSD so I can EFI boot Windows 10 when I hold down "Option" during start up (https://youtu.be/sfcNR2l7ios works works works). I have tried this on multiple different MacBooks and ever single time, it EFI boots into Windows 10 by first displaying the Windows logo. HOWEVER this does not work on my new MacBook Pro. Instead of the Windows logo I get the Apple logo, it boots into the MacOS Recovery mode, and displays the error "The version of macOS on the selected disk needs to be reinstalled". I have tried everything:
I'm very close to exchanging this MacBook because of this. I don't want to but I will have to. Does anyone have any idea on how to resolve this issue and get my MacBook Pro to allow me to boot the Windows 10 OS from my SSD? Again, ALL other Macs I've tried this on works (and they didn't have to change any settings). Another way to look at it… what would cause the error "The version of macOS on the selected disk needs to be reinstalled" when the MacOS isn't even installed on that SSD? Please Help. Losing my mind. The one thing that I particularly like about macOS is it's Aqua DE and the handy functioality that comes with it (screenshots, dock, multiple desktop functionality, window decorations and a few other things and it's polish and beauty overall). I found a few solutions but they are for previous versions. I wonder if anyone here has had issues with Catalina specifically and how did they fix it? | Trying to boot from external after internal died. Every start up brings me to “macOS Utilites” Posted: 24 May 2020 10:57 AM PDT I've done EVERYTHING and I still can't get the os to load. Erased the dead internal. Brand new out of the box partitioned 4tb external(yes correct formatting), did "restore from time machine" onto said new external with partition just for the os as destination. Did the "Reinstall macOS" and internet recovery option... after it installs on new external, restarts... Apple logo-loading bar, boom back to Utilites menu. I even restored a partition of the new external from the "os x base system" hoping that would trigger a log in screen. Nope. Tried all the other standard options the internet gives at least 3 times...Command-r, alt command-r, Safe mode, reset the vram option. The most I've gotten is a second of the set up screen as if it's ready to greet me like a fresh computer/os install then it blinks away and the Utilites screen comes up. Can anyone tell me how to really make it boot from an external drive? There's obviously something all these people on the internet and Apple haven't taken into account when they give the directions on how to boot from an external, it's that a persons internal hd might be dead. How do I get to the "fresh install" set up screen? 2012 11" air- dead(and erased) internal ssd still inside. Don't give me any website tutorials on "how to boot from an external hard drive" I've seen it, they are all the same copy pasted info and it didn't work. [link] [comments]  | ||
| Time Machine backup much smaller than estimated size Posted: 24 May 2020 06:45 AM PDT My estimated size was about 103GB. The actual backup was only 13GB and took about 5 minutes. When I've made backups in the past, it probably takes around an hour to backup the full ~100gb. It still looks like everything was there as far as I can tell though. Why is it so small? My mac spends a great deal of time in my garage with me just playing music. In the past the screen would go dark and music would happily play in the background and battery seems to last quite a long time. I have noticed lately that the screen never goes dark and battery usage is high. I haven't changed anything that I know of. Any idea of what I can do to fix this? | Time machine restore to newer OS? Posted: 24 May 2020 07:17 AM PDT My MacBook hard disc failed on Friday but I was able to perform a Time Machine backup right before it choked. A new hard drive arrived this morning and I am wondering the best way to do the installation. When I boot the laptop and press CMD+R then it gives me the option to download the latest OS. If I do it this way, can I run Time Machine after to restore my files or does it have to be using the same version of OS as the backup? Alternatively, if I install from the Time Machine backup, can I upgrade to the latest OS after it's done? Objective: Latest OS and my files restored. Thanks [link] [comments]  | ||
