I'm about to downgrade back to Mojave. Any reason I shouldn't? Posted: 27 May 2020 06:26 PM PDT Any regrets or things I should know? I have a 2015 Macbook pro for reference. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 May 2020 06:47 AM PDT Some models (mine included, 2014 mbp) are experiencing an extremely long time to shut down after the most recent update. In my case it easily took 10 minutes to finish the job while on a black screen showing only the arrow, when it has always took like two seconds to do so. Just a quick heads-up for those who are impatient; you might cause a system failure if you force it thinking it got stuck and you should manually reboot by long-pressing the power button. I don't know, but I might just be saving a little old mac somewhere in the world by just taking the time to write this silly post. Edit: I'm on Mojave. It happens only one time, after that, everything comes back to normal. [link] [comments]
Dock hides automatically after accessing launchpad in 10.15.5 update Posted: 28 May 2020 02:31 AM PDT I have found this weird bug just 5 minutes after updating to 10.15.5. When I access the launchpad, SOMETIMES the dock hides itself after closing the launchpad again. I can bring it back with alt cmd D. It does not happen all the time, but sometimes it does and it's annoying. Anyone with the same bug? [link] [comments]
Can I restore chrome password from time machine? Posted: 28 May 2020 02:26 AM PDT I accidentally deleted all passwords with browsing data. I don't have them saved on any device due to sync. Is there a way to restore saved passwords from time machine backup or it doesn't store locally? [link] [comments]
macOS 10.15.5 update doesn't work? Posted: 28 May 2020 12:38 AM PDT Hi, has anyone problems updating from macOS 10.15.4 to 10.15.5? The update shows in the system preferences and is already downloaded. When I click on 'update' and restart my computer (MacBook Pro 13" Retina Mid 2014) it only restarts normally. First I thought it was an old grub bootloader for a linux distro. Since I don't need it anymore, I just deleted it. But still no update. Is there any log files to check regarding the os'es software update? Thanks for your help! [link] [comments]
Has anyone heard of any rumors about the next macOS (10.16 or 11?) Posted: 27 May 2020 08:57 AM PDT Compared to last year, I'm not hearing about any rumors regarding the next macOS. Do you think maybe because it's going to be a fresh one like becoming macOS 11? The only thing I have gathered was from everythingapplepro where he said it might be called macOS Redwood. I'm also wondering what devices will be supported with it? I have a Macbook Pro mid-2014. Will that lose support or will the 2012 MacBook pros lose support? I know most likely everyone is in or around the same boat as me, but what is everyone's thoughts? [link] [comments]
Mac os 10.16 better be another snow leopard Posted: 27 May 2020 09:11 AM PDT Since Catalinas been a mess, 10.16 really needs to be like snow leopard. Technically Catalina should have been an enhancement realease (for reference sierra was features, high sierra was enhancements, yosemite was features, el capitain was enhancements) but obviously they were more focused on features then making the OS stable. 10.16 should be supported on all the same devices, but knowing apple, they're going to leave all the 2012s on the glitchy catalina. What do y'all think. [link] [comments]

2013 Macbook Air + 1440p over HDMI 1.4 Posted: 27 May 2020 07:48 PM PDT Trying to get 1440p to work over HDMI on my 2013 Macbook Air hooked up to an Acer XB271HU. The DP is already being used by my main PC, so have to try through HDMI 1.4. I have this HDMI cable which is apparently 4k ready. However the laptop is only recognizing the display as 1080p; I've tried restarting + holding option on Scaling/Detect Displays, but to no avail. Is this a hardware limitation? I thought Thunderbolt 1 could support 1440p. [link] [comments]

macOS Catalina: Airdrop menu, possible to show device icons? Posted: 27 May 2020 11:07 PM PDT Hey everyone, I'm currently on MacOS 10.15.5 I'm using Airdrop a lot to work between all of my devices. Is there any way to change the Airdrop menu to show the device icon (like my iPhone running ios13 does), rather than the account icon (which are all the same across my devices?) Thank you [link] [comments]
macOS Catalina 10.15.5 update troubleshooting Posted: 27 May 2020 10:14 PM PDT I downloaded the update and was prepared to install it but every time after restarting by itself, it finishes quickly and the notification that I need to update it is still on. And my previous system update is still there meaning the new one wasn't installed. And it keeps turning my fan on. [link] [comments]
I'm officially a member of the macOS family Posted: 27 May 2020 12:44 PM PDT I had my first ever Mac delivered today, the MacBook Air 2020, base model, suits my needs, personalised the dock and settings to my liking. I'll be using it for WWE Network, Netflix, writing, browsing the web and emails, basically it really. This is a glorious day for myself and I'm thrilled to finally have a MacBook, I've been wanting one for many years. Anyone got any little tips or words of wisdom, despite me being a very basic user lol, any cool dynamic wallpaper suggestions? I love the light/dark shift, I have the default Catalina wallpaper currently. [link] [comments]
2018 MacBook Air not showing macOS 10.15.5 available for update. Posted: 27 May 2020 09:25 PM PDT I've been using Mac for close to ten years, and never had this issue. I currently own a 2018 Retina MacBook Air and a Late 2014 27" iMac 5K. I had no issues updating my iMac. When I go to System Preferences -> Software Update it tells me Your Mac is up to date – macOS Catalina 10.15.4 I've tried most everything I can think. Force Quit, Restart, Shut Down, Sign Out, SMC Reset. Nothing. It won't find 10.15.5 available to update. Not sure if it's at all related, but I notice when I go to the App Store and search Catalina, it shows the latest update on the app page as 10.15.4 [link] [comments]

App Wont Stop Crashing! Help Please! Posted: 27 May 2020 07:36 PM PDT Hi all. I'm trying to install a game named CSGO on my Mac, and after attempting to launch it, the file briefly loads (not showing anything on the screen other than the app bouncing on my dock), followed by the "csgo_osx64 quit unexpectedly" message appearing. This occurs every time I launch it. I have tried every suggested remedy on various technical support communities and have not produced a result. I am left disappointed and unable to play the game. Specs via Steam and iMac
The crash file (log) is attached below. https://gist.github.com/msg7/2007f2063a712ba80ed1d5250452ef4c If anyone would be able to identify the problem within the log and suggest a solution I would greatly appreciate it! In addition, I booted my computer in safe mode and attempted to load up the game and upon doing so got an error that said "Error: This game requirers OS X version 10.6.7 or higher", although I have OS X 10.15.5. Perhaps this can narrow down my issue. Thank you in advance. [link] [comments]
Is it possible to "bind" the dock to a specific display? Posted: 27 May 2020 02:40 PM PDT I am running Mojave, 10.14.6 (18G4032) on a 2019 MBP 15". I also have two Samsung monitors connected to the MBP serving to extend the desktop. The two monitors are placed left and right of the MBP display. I would like to know if the dock can be hard-assigned to the MBP display, so that it won't ever jump to either additional external display? I know I can move my mouse to the bottom of the MBP display to bring it back there, but it would be nice to simply assign the dock to always stay on the MBP display. I'm hoping there is a way? TIA for any suggestions. [link] [comments]
Help installing macOS on old MBP with new SSD Posted: 27 May 2020 06:25 PM PDT Earlier today I reformatted and updated a 2007 iMac to El Capitan using a usb bootable media stick. Worked flawlessly! Later I attempted to use an adata su800 1tb drive i have and throw it in my mid 2011 MacBook Pro to give the little guy another chance at life. I used the exact same bootable usb and it gets all the way through the install process and says "restart to complete install" and when it restarts it give me the prohibitory sign. Any ideas on what I can do? I've attempted high Sierra as well and that crashes halfway through the install of the OS and boots up directly to recovery mode. I alsotried the internet recovery option and that gives me an error..... not sure why but I figured maybe OS X Lion is just too old to restore from? Any help would be appreciated! Edit: threw back in the old 320gb hdd and it booted up first try no issues. Going to assume it's the ssd for now and order a new one. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 May 2020 01:56 PM PDT So I have task I am attempting to accomplish- fresh, clean factory reset for my current Macbook Air. This issue is challenged by the following 2 conditions on current macbook: 1) Potential rootkit/background software on device (creating ineffective terminal/root user command through terminal, unstable/ineffective network reconfiguration- when I navigate to firewall and run as admin doesn't stop incoming remote ports- appears that network scan utility has been mismounted to different directory and upon running net multicast scan of sockets, appeared to be 20-30 different groups associated with link-layer/link-layer IPv4/Link Layer IPv6/lo0/en1/wd10/llw0/un1/un0 sockets and overall an acting server successfully sending in unauthorized data packets)- Because it appears that primary directories have been mismounted and proper system repositories have been relocated, I have not been able to successfully initiate terminal/root control to execute reconfig functions- (appears to altered shortcuts/preference settings for terminal with command screen wiping data off window click or a copy/paste from text doc- also bash PID running on command any time I launch terminal) 2) During the attempted self-service for securing my computer- attempted to launch OS in (CMMND)+R upon login to launch disk utility- ran first aid scans on disk utility and chose option for firmware password upon restart (which, has created follow-up issues) 3) Upon login in CMMD+R firmware field is not accepting the password I just created- at fist I thought it was a user error- but I physically recorded a very short password and I really doubt its an incorrect password field I am keying in Reached out to Apple, spent two hours just to have two different people tell me I needed to make an appointment for hardware re-install: no other way to factory reset device So my two questions are as follows: 1) I can still login to drive, is there any workarounds for partitioning/removing firmware encrypted start-up disk and simultaneously install a linux distro for boot on thumb-drive to bypass current start-up? Is there any possibility if start-up disk was already corrupted, to pull shadow file or just check to see if this located 2) Assuming no appropriate factory reset can be performed without physical servicing, are there any general points of troubleshooting recommended to start repairing network configurations/reformatting drive? I had previously been running malewarebytes/little snitch and those two systems started freezing and acting non-responsive. Thanks! Sorry for the super long message [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 May 2020 12:12 PM PDT Hey all, When I purchased my MacBook (Pro w/touch bar) at Best Buy it came with Kaspersky Internet Security software. I thought this was a little silly but for some unknown reason I went ahead and installed it. The program itself did nothing other than cause headaches. I went through to the app and uninstalled it, and figured that was the end of it. Less than a week later it was trying to reinstall itself. I've searched through my computer and deleted everything that I can find that seems related, but even now (admittedly a couple of years later--it just finally occurred to me to ask Reddit; I've come up empty-handed searching for the solution on my own) the icon is still in the menu bar/status menu and every now and then I still get pop ups asking me to update. I'm at a loss for what I can do to remove this crap, especially considering that the program was federally banned at the end of 2017 due to its ties with Russian intelligence and military officials and some weird link to the Russian involvement in the last presidential election1 2. I couldn't believe the accusations/ban when I first saw them, and I'm really, really eager to get this junk off of my computer. I feel pretty stupid for having installed it in the first place. I've linked the articles referenced in their Wikipedia page just in case anyone is curious (or finds this thread in the future looking for help with a similar issue). Thanks in advance everyone, I really appreciate any help. [link] [comments] |
