Posted: 27 May 2020 08:13 PM PDT When Apple debuted the new Apple TV App and TV+ service at its March 2019 keynote, it was clear their new push for TV was to have centralized channels all in one place that you could subscribe and unsubscribe to at will. Apple TV+ would be its "premiere" TV channel among the recognizable logos of CBS, HBO, Showtime, and even the smaller channels like MTV and Comedy Central. The ability to have the Apple TV+ along with these channels, and potentially more like Disney+, HBO Max and Peacock available together with Apple's high bitrate playback, picture-in-picture feature, and consistent UI among all the different services really did look like a potential future for cord cutters. The problem is, it looks like these other companies have other ideas. The surprise today that WarnerMedia decided to can its HBO channel in favor of its own app for HBO Max was, in my opinion, a tipping point in a trend with networks going against this centralized channels model. And might signal a point of no return for it. And if these channels can't truly take off, Apple TV+ will be pulled down with them. What about TV+ will seem essential to regular users if other content isn't there to prop it up within the TV App? Yes its shows are mostly great, but its lack of buzz due to lack of content was bad enough, let alone the zero dent it's channels seem to be making in the streaming market. And companies like Warner and Disney know this. If they don't support Apple TV channels that means more traffic for them in their own apps. The thing is, this mainly benefits just them and not the consumer. Each one of these apps acts like it wants to create its own ecosystem that doesn't exist. The consumer left making account after account (and jumping from app to app) giving more of their personal info to these companies. Even the smaller channels I mentioned like MTV Hits and Comedy Central Now omit their own content that you can get for FREE on their separate apps rather than putting them on the paid Apple channels. Not to mention it deprives consumers of options of how they want to play the content they're paying for. I believe Apple TV channels has potential to truly change TV in regards to simplifying and streamlining the experience from traditional cable. Apple TV+ was Apple's way of highlighting the features of their channels, and without them I can't picture TV+ gaining much traction unless they change gears and make the service its own app. [link] [comments] |
So I just ordered my first ever ATV Posted: 27 May 2020 04:27 PM PDT And as a current Roku user, is there anything you can tell me that's better about it? The apps? Stability? The UI? Ect [link] [comments] |
Is there any reason *NOT* to subscribe to HBO Max through Apple TV? Posted: 27 May 2020 11:46 AM PDT Is it better to get it directly from HBO and then add it to your AppleTV (I assume you can do that, but maybe not)? [link] [comments] |
Best app to watch Space-X launch? NASA app seems a bit janky and dated. Posted: 27 May 2020 12:54 PM PDT |

Posted: 27 May 2020 05:46 PM PDT So I've had my Apple TV for almost 2 years and just realized tonight that I didn't have Siri enabled and setup the IR to control my receiver. I know these things are probably enabled by default so what kind of other features should I be looking into. I also use the Channels app with my hd homerun for live tv but not sure if there is a better option. Maybe good DVR software to accompany it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 May 2020 02:51 AM PDT I got an Apple TV today, yay. I figured getting some games would be a lot of fun so I bought "Attack the Light" game. My sister loads up the app after purchasing and downloading, only for it to not work. A page popped up for the game asking for agreements for terms and conditions, normal stuff. My sister goes to press yes, and nothing works. She tries to click the terms and nothing happens. We tried every single button on the remote for every possible option to press on the screen, and nothing works! I figure I'll reset my box and it'll work. Nope. I figure the next step is to remove and re-download the game. Only when I got to download the game again, it asks for payment again. What the heck is going on? Can I get a refund for the money I spent? Or even get to play the game I bought? What the heck?? [link] [comments] |
Siri on Apple TV in PT, why not? Posted: 27 May 2020 04:23 PM PDT Why is it that Siri isn't available on Apple TV in certain countries even though it's available on an iPhone, iPad, Mac or even HomePod? I have them all configured in English but that's the only device that doesn't let me use it. [link] [comments] |
Looking to get Apple TV 4K. Do they have sales around the major holidays? Posted: 27 May 2020 12:17 PM PDT Looking to get an Apple TV 4K since HBO Max isn't available on LG or Amazon.. Do the Apple TVs go on sale during major holidays or better to find one used? [link] [comments] |
Issues with sound coming out of wireless headphones Posted: 27 May 2020 09:12 PM PDT So I updated the software on my Apple TV and when I went to use it on my sennheiser headphones and got nothing but static. Now these headphones are 6 years old so I don't know if age has anything to do with it. [link] [comments] |
Is it possible to control Samsung Smart Hub with an Apple TV 4K Remote? Posted: 27 May 2020 07:41 PM PDT I've set up my Apple TV 4K remote to control my Apple TV, Vizio sound system, and power my Samsung television on/off... Does anyone know if it's possible to program it to access Samsung's Smart Hub, to be able to change inputs (i.e. turning on television and switching to Xbox input), go to Samsung settings, etc.? Posted: 27 May 2020 07:16 PM PDT Does anyone else get oversaturation of picture quality on ATV 4k. I have been using the Nvidia Shield TV (2019) since release and decided to try out a new ATV since the whole family uses iOS. I like the interface and apps like dc universe and Disney+ work more reliable. But I have noticed my picture quality is alot worse than my Shield. It is like the ATV is over saturating everything and making it to punchy and dark. I adjusted every setting I could on the ATV itself as well as adjusted TV settings as well. I have an LG 4k TV and supporting HDMI cable for the higher picture quality setting on the ATV. Maybe I was spoiled by the AI upconvert of the shield but I just can't stand the picture quality of the ATV, anything I am not considering. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 May 2020 06:14 AM PDT I'm confused. I get hbo max because I'm an hbo Apple TV channels subscriber. Now, do I download the hbo max app? It said to download it when I opened Apple TV channels. But then the app asks me to log in and I don't have a log in. Or am I supposed to watch hbo max through the Apple TV tv app? Posted: 27 May 2020 05:06 AM PDT I'm looking to upgrade from an older Apple TV 4th Generation and am curious how much of an upgrade it is to those that have done it. I just recently purchased a Sony 900F 4K TV and realized I'm limited in viewing 4K content without upgrading the Apple TV. Also, I'm currently running a many year old HDMI cable and was wondering if I'll need a new cable, if it will make a difference, and what brand or any details to look out for. Thoughts and suggestions welcome thank you! [link] [comments] |
