Posted: 29 May 2020 10:21 PM PDT i'm going to purchase either a macbook pro or air, but i can't decide which one. my current laptop is a surface book 2, 8 ram, 256 gb. i am a sociology student who's going in the fall, and all i'm going to be using this laptop for is for schoolwork, and some simple browsing, youtube and netflix. i am looking for this laptop to get me through my 4 years undergrad, and maybe even law school after. i've looked at countless videos and articles on the two and all it's done is made me more confused. can anyone help me out? 2015 MacBook Pro keeps mysteriously shutting off every 10-15 minutes Posted: 29 May 2020 08:06 PM PDT Completely baffled. I've reset the PRAM and SMC twice, reinstalled OS X, cleaned the inside, shouted a lot, checked the battery, and it's still happening. Is there anything obvious I'm overlooking or should be doing? I apologize if I haven't provided enough info. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 May 2020 11:09 PM PDT I'm looking to update my personal mac and am conflicted. My current setup: Personal: 15" mid 2014 MBP, maxed out Work 1: 15" 2018 MPB, maxed out work 2: iMac Pro 2019, maxed out My employer is super generous and provides me with both the imac/mbp's. I like having my own personal machine for my own work, games, etc. I'm an iOS engineer and Xcode is usually fine for my personal apps. The 16" MBP has a newer gen processor, but the Mac Mini is significantly cheaper. TBH not sure how valuable the dedicated GPU is. Given my other computers, portability is not as much of an issue. Thoughts? Also considering waiting to see if the Mac Mini gets updated in the fall. [link] [comments]
Experiences with Refurbished Products using Apple Store? Posted: 29 May 2020 01:39 PM PDT I am thinking of buying a refurbished Apple MacBook from the Apple Refurbished store. To anyone who has bought a refurbished Apple product (specifically MacBooks), I want to know your experience using one and how it has held up. Since I am a student, I am wondering if Student Discount also applies with refurbished products. Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 May 2020 09:41 PM PDT I have a late 2008 13 inch macbook... something like: CLICK HERE It used to work...but not any more...for some odd reason.. I dont even know why...but any ways...every time..upon bootup I keeps loading and loading and loading till the end of time....It didnt used to do this.......I tried every literal combination when ever it starts....I know for a fact the harddrive is corrupted....and I have to get the os all over again...so instead of opening the laptop and locating the hard drive and removing it and all that...my choice was to get an external usb hdd and hook it up...I know it's a bad idea..but I want external..now THERE IS a combination for selecting what harddrive you want(holding option upon booting up)...one time I plugged a usb stick into it before and tried the combination and it really showed next to the og one so I know for a fact that its gonna show up if I plug a harddrive...right?.....which brings me a new problem..I cant plug an completely empty usb hdd into it and expect it to do anything...I need to somehow get the OS installed on to the external hdd...I know it like...EL CAPTIAN OS X or something...but I can find the version in verbose mode some other time.....now how in the flying hell do I get os ?....cant clone it....cant use online recovery.....but...I do have a windows pc...so what popped in my mind is that if I get the external hdd, plug it into the windows pc...get the os installed on the pc from chrome....transfer it into the external hdd... then put into the macbook...hold option upon bootup...select the external one...it'll get me into the new and working os that I just downloaded....sounds like a good I idea....here is the whole reason I wrote this...where do I install the os ? I searched up "downlaod for OS X EL CAPTIAN" but it didnt show me what i was hoping to see...I click first website which is an official apple website...it kept giving me question and i always answered them but there wasn't a link to downlaod the a selected os... Can someone PLEASE tell me how or where or provide a link for downloading the EL CAPTIAN OS X please....PLEASE... [link] [comments]

First MacBook for music production Posted: 29 May 2020 03:06 PM PDT My windows laptop has died and I've been wanting to move to MacBook for a long time. I'm looking at primarily using it for music production VSTs or AUs Logic, Maschine, Massive etc. My question is do I go for the 2020 I5 of 2020 I7? Performance wise as far as I can see there isn't much in it and both are quad core. Will I regret not going for the I7? Or will the extra power have a detrimental effect on heat and battery life? Any replies would be much appreciated. [link] [comments]
Help: FaceTime only going thru Macbook Posted: 29 May 2020 08:50 PM PDT I've been getting FaceTime calls on my Macbook that I'm not receiving on my iPhone. I checked the settings for both devices for "You can be reached by Facetime at" and both devices have the same contact info enabled. Those calling me are all unknown numbers and I'm quite scared. Should I be worried that this is actually a security risk? Or is it something else? Edit: MBA 2018 on macOS Mojave iPhone 11 on iOS 13.5 [link] [comments]
Speaker problems 2020 MacBook Pro? Posted: 29 May 2020 04:12 PM PDT Hi everyone! Just wondering if anyone with a new 2020 MacBook Pro is experiencing any speaker issues? Mine will occasionally start crackling? Mine is the model with the 10th gen processor if that helps. Edit: typo [link] [comments]
Battery life after 500 cycli: repair notification Posted: 29 May 2020 01:36 PM PDT I got a notification to replace/repair my MacBook Pro 2017 (base model) after just 500 cycli, with a remaining capacity of 75% (coconut app). Is this normal? Because it's quite a lot of money to replace the battery, being a student. (I try to keep it charged when 100% for most of the time, as I read on the Apple site that the battery isn't used when fully charged, did this research when I first got my Mac. Thanks!! thunderbolt monitor for MacBook and gaming. Posted: 29 May 2020 02:50 PM PDT hi, im looking for monitor that i can connect my macbook pro upto aswell as my xbox one x. my requirements are size preferably 27inches as this is the sweet spot for me, ips panel, low response time, 4k at 60hz, thunderbolt 3 with pass through charging and daisy chaining, HDMI port, very thin bezels( having two side by side) flat panel not curved Some things that would be nice, but are not neccessary: inbuilt speakers (sometimes i sometimes dont like weaering a headset when im gaming casually) i would preferably like height, tilt and swivel adjustment but if this is not possible with what i am asking then thats fine. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 May 2020 10:05 AM PDT I am looking to buy a new MBP 16". I have seen posts around Reddit where people have just one cabled plugged into their laptop. How does that work? Since one port would be taken up by charging, another by the external display and one for time machine. Is there a dock or something that people are using to achieve all of this? /r/ [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 May 2020 05:25 PM PDT Whenever I try to command + anything, the shortcuts don't work. I mainly use command space but it just selects a desktop file. I know it's probably something dumb, please help me out lol [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 May 2020 10:40 AM PDT Hi there, I'm looking for a sleeve for my new MacBook Pro 13.3 inch. I slapped an incase hard shell cover on my laptop, so I'm having trouble finding a sleeve to fit. Any suggestions? Or can I use a 15.4 inch sleeve? [link] [comments]
Question regarding Steam games Posted: 29 May 2020 03:32 PM PDT If I download Steam on to my Mac, can I download the Mac compatible games onto an external hard drive? Or do I have to install them onto my Mac [link] [comments]
Trouble updating to MacOS Catalina from Mojave because SDD not in APFS Posted: 29 May 2020 01:15 PM PDT I vaguely remember High Sierra converting your disk image to APFS but I recently did an AppleCare+ claim where everything but my screen was essentially replaced and when I try to update to Catalina I get an error stating my disk is not in APFS and therefore unable to update because it's in Mac OS Extended Journaled. Is there any way to work around this without completely reformatting my drive to APFS and reloading my OS via Time Machine? [link] [comments]
Power Source and Laptop Charging Posted: 29 May 2020 11:22 AM PDT I have a MacBook Pro(13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) and I love it, it's my own personal laptop. I have been given a Dell widescreen monitor which connects to the Apple via USBC. But the USBC port also delivers power to the MacBook Pro. Should I let the monitor charge my Mac? Or use my own power adapter and then use and USBC to HDMI adapter to keep the battery safe? Does it matter? Thank in Advance! [link] [comments]
Macbook won’t go past boot screen Posted: 29 May 2020 10:37 AM PDT My MacBook will not go past the startup, I will sign in, then it starts to boot but never gets past this screen. What can I do? I can't do a factory reset and I don't think it would help anyway. It hasn't gotten past the boot screen since i left it on for several hours without any activity, if that helps. picture of loading screen [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 May 2020 09:08 AM PDT Using a macbook pro 2012 with High Sierra, if I save photos using Firefox, I get an error when trying to open them, however saving them with Safari has no issues? I suppose it's not a /massive/ problem, but if anyone has any info or a fix, I would be very grateful. [link] [comments]
