Zoom help for a teacher please MacBook Air Posted: 21 May 2020 01:09 PM PDT I'm trying to teach in the pandemic with a MacBook Air that is about 6 years old. I'm pretty bad with technology and am used to PC machines... just an old dude set in his ways. The problem I'm having is this... Sometimes when I launch Zoom, it opens in a new window. When that happens I don't know how to share my screen with the previous window. This has happened before, but I don't know how I fixed it... if I did fix it. It just seemed to go back to how I used it on its own. It also "seemed" to start opening a new window on its own. Please help... for the children EDIT I'm using Chrome. I think that might have something to do with w [link] [comments]
Does the MacBook Air have a throttling/heat problem? Posted: 21 May 2020 07:43 PM PDT Hello, I'm looking into buying a MacBook Air this summer, but I've stumbled upon a puzzling problem. Apparently the MacBook Air has an atrocious heating problem. Even to the point of reaching 100 degrees Celsius for doing basic tasks. I wanted to get an i5 for the laptop but will it even get its performance with such heat problems? I've also heard with such heating problems it could eventually lead to CPU failure and damage the internal. So my question is should I save up more and go with the MacBook Pro or is it safe to by a MacBook Air with an i5? Any help or insight to this heat problem would be greatly appreciated! MacBook Pro 2015 W, 2 and 7 keys not working? Posted: 22 May 2020 01:34 AM PDT My keyboard recently stopped the keys W, 2 and 7 working and I think it's linked to an issue after using the dictation tool. I have tried many videos and forums already but none suiting the particular problem I have. Any one have any suggestions as to how I resolve the issue? Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 May 2020 12:53 AM PDT I'm looking for a good monitor to connect my laptop. Can someone please please recommend one? I don't really know what I need. what do you use as a monitor for your MacBook? I have the MacBook Air 2020. THANK YOU! [link] [comments]

2020 13-inch macbook pro or 2020 I5 macbook air? Posted: 21 May 2020 01:00 PM PDT So im a student who will be starting college next fall. Im looking for a computer that could handle some basic student tasks such as web browsing, netflix, word, etc. Ive read that the macbook pro is slightly better, but is it worth the 300$ CAD since I wouldn't be using the computer for heavy tasks such as video or photo editing? Also, I've read that I should increase the rams as 8 GB isnt enough. Is this also true for a student who would only do basic tasks? Keep in mind that id like my macbook to last me a couple of years since im a broke college student lol Thanks for the help! [link] [comments]
Does anybody regret getting the 16"? Posted: 21 May 2020 10:21 PM PDT I've been looking to eventually upgrade my 13" Pro for a little more power (and the screen is dying). I really like the power and screen real estate in the 16", but as somebody who travels international a few times a year I'm worried about the size. To those of you who own the 16", do you regret it in terms of size and weight? Is it a hassle to travel with? [link] [comments]
People who have gone from Air or Pro 13 to 16, did you get used to the heft and size eventuality? Posted: 21 May 2020 06:06 PM PDT The bang for the buck for the 16 seems pretty damn good on a dollar-to-grunt basis. I'm just wary of the size, though. If you've made the step up, how has it worked out for you? [link] [comments]

Posted: 21 May 2020 01:48 PM PDT So I got more ram and SSD. Now when I try to load lion I get message "can't download the additional components needed to install OS X." Can someone in this brain box point me to getting my OS back. Please and thanks! [link] [comments]
Global equalizer app in Catalina? Posted: 21 May 2020 07:41 AM PDT Can anyone recommend an equalizer app that will affect sound from web streaming etc? I like the MBP16 sound, but it sometimes needs tweaking for my ears! TIA. [link] [comments]

How difficult/expensive is it to fix the "flatgate" issue with the 2016/2017 macbooks? Posted: 21 May 2020 07:22 PM PDT I did some searching and seems apple covered the 13" version but not the 15" version? Let's say you had a macbook pro with this issue, what is needed to fix it and how much might it cost? *edit... sorry, I meant flexgate* [link] [comments]

Posted: 21 May 2020 06:29 PM PDT Hi everyone- Just got a 2015 15" refurbished MacBook Pro. It's great, I love everything about it- except, the battery. The place I bought it from said they got the battery replaced by Apple only a few months ago, and I believe that, since the cycles are only at 109, and my battery program says it's 10 months old. But, I thought this thing was supposed to get around 9 hours or so of battery. I'm so far doing basic web browsing (on Safari) and Spotify streaming, and I really get around 4 - 5. Is my battery defective? Should I take it in? All help appreciated. [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 May 2020 10:33 AM PDT I currently have a 2017 MacBook 12" that I want to upgrade. At the time of purchase, my intention was to use it as a "school computer" because I had access to a desktop at home. However after 2.5 years of having it, I'm starting to have my laptop lag for 2-3s at a time every few minutes when using Word, and other apps. Not only that, but I now want a machine that can handle editing well. My intent last time was to buy a laptop I could use for many years, but turns out it didn't work. This time, I want to make sure that the machine I buy is indeed future proof. I'm currently looking at purchasing a 16" MacBook. I'm wondering if the graphic card upgrade is necessary for future proofing. Furthermore, would the 2.4GhZ 6core or the 2.3GhZ 8 core be better? [link] [comments]
MBA i5 2020 vs MBP 13" i5 2020 for the 'intermediate' user Posted: 21 May 2020 06:00 PM PDT Hello everyone! I'm new to Reddit, as well as Apple products. I've been wanting to buy a Macbook for the longest of time. Now, with the complete refresh of their keyboards, I figured it's about time. I'll be using the laptop for work purposes. Apart from simple usage such as web browsing, running Word/Excel/PowerPoint, watching videos; I also require it for videoconferencing once in awhile (via Zoom/Teams/Meets), data analysis (via SPSS/R), programming and light photo/video editing (colour corrections, subtitling, adding backing tracks, trimming and cutting, simple transitions). I have 2 main conflicting 'thoughts' about the MBA/MBP choice: 1) I am aware of the huge debate going on about the MBA "overheating" and "having loud fans". Is this truly a concern given my above usage? My worry is primarily the noise and whether it 'feels' hot and uncomfortable, since I might be using it for long periods of time in the library plugged in. Performance of course is an issue as well, but secondary. 2) The entry-level MBP runs 8th generation Intel processors. I've read that this was first released in 2017 (although I believe the one this particular MBP has was released in mid-2019). To me, that felt a bit 'old'. I heard rumours of Apple releasing a ARM-based processor some time late this year/next year, or even bringing the 10th generation down to a possible 14" MBP. Is processor generation much of a concern? In short, I'm leaning towards MBP but the idea that I may be buying an 'older' processor with potential imminent new products puts me off; but it's hard for me decide on MBA given the "overheating" saga. Lastly, thank you for reading through this long post. Please take good care everyone! [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro 2020 (Newest Release) Posted: 21 May 2020 02:07 PM PDT MBP users...is it normal for your computer to get super hot within 30 minutes of use? I received it last week, haven't downloaded anything and never had this issue with my 2012 MacBook Pro. Seems overworked but I haven't put it to work yet, just wondering if I should have looked at another version for how much I spent on this one. Any help appreciated! [link] [comments]
2019 Macbook Pro i5 vs 2020 Macbook air i3 Posted: 21 May 2020 05:43 PM PDT Need help on which to choose. I am looking at buying a refurbished macbook pro i5 quad core but it costs the same as the brand new macbook air 2020 base i3. I know the new macbook air has faster memory bandwidth, but has the slower processor (even if single core functions are faster) and double the HD space On the other hand it would appear the macbook pro has the better processor and graphics chip. Keyboard isn't an issue for me. I simply just want to know which laptop is better bang for my buck. Thanks! [link] [comments]
2018 Macbook Air 13" Battery Percentage Jumping Around and Turning off by Itself Posted: 21 May 2020 12:29 PM PDT Advice needed! The battery percentage on my Macbook Air has been jumping up and down a few percentage points, usually no more than five at a time. Plus, three times now the computer has completely shut down once it got to about 30-40% battery (doesn't usually happen, just those few times). Computer is working/charging normally otherwise. My theory is that it's not showing the correct percentage and that when it turns off unexpectedly it's actually drained despite saying it has charge left. I've read that I should reset the SMC? Is that right/any other tips? Thank you. Edit: Correction, it's a 2017 Macbook Air, not 2018. [link] [comments]
Considering upgrade: 2013 Pro to 2020 Air Posted: 21 May 2020 08:17 AM PDT Hey guys, first post and on mobile so sorry for any mistakes. My current laptop (13-inch late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina, dual core i5 4gb RAM) is getting really old and I'm considering the new 13-inch 2020 Macbook Air (quad core i5, 8gb RAM). I heard new Air overheats really easily. Will I notice a considerable difference in performance by buying the new Air? Sorry if this is a stupid question and thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 May 2020 07:47 AM PDT Hi all, Is there a WiFi 6 dongle for the latest MBP 16'' that you recommend? For the avoidance of doubt, let's assume there is a WiFi 6 infrastructure present. Thanks [link] [comments] |
