MacBook Pro 2020 questions (i5 vs i7, Thermal issues, storage) Posted: 06 May 2020 01:22 AM PDT With Apple finally releasing the new MacBook Pro 13", I was looking at ordering one (my first Mac purchase since 2009), but had a couple questions while trying to decide on specs: 1) Given that's the i7 model for the 2020 MacBook Air is largely not worth the price due to the thermal problems with it's design preventing it from reaching full power for long, and the difference in power between the i7 & i5 being negligible, I was wondering about the same issue with the MacBook Pro. Is the 10th-gen i7 upgrade worth the extra $200? Has anyone seen any info comparing the two processors? For that matter, I haven't been able to find the specific model numbers since Apple's kind of notorious for hiding that kind of information, does anyone have the part numbers? 2) Given the reports about issues with heat in the 2019 models due to the placement of the USB-C ports (if power and accessories are plugged in on the same side then that area of the MacBook will heat up, causing problems) have any of the reviewers commented on/tested that? I'm a little worried, since my last MacBook (2009 Pro) had similar heat problems wherever the MagSafe was plugged in (the entire region around the port would get REALLY hot). 3) Anyone who has a 2020 MacBook Air or 2018/2019 MacBook: how much storage space do you use for the OS/Apps you have installed? I'd like to get a ballpark of how much space I'll have actually available (one of the most frustrating things about Apple's iOS devices is how much space the OS uses up, especially if you don't have the largest storage capacity). Any info (preferably with links/references) would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]

Macbook Pro 13 vs 16 inch for intense work + travel Posted: 05 May 2020 09:17 AM PDT I am a freelance web developer I have been using MBP 13" for 5 years and now I am considering if I should upgrade to the latest gen 13 vs 16 inches because I can see some advantages in the bigger display + performance which I am very much fond of. My work usage required me to run multiple apps at a time. Having a bigger display is also seems amusing to read the text and edit some graphics work. I am using MBP13 16GB/512GB early 2015 model not that I am feeling its slow but it doesn't hurt to have a little more power and if I can run games on the 16" with good performance then that will be another plus. However, I am a little concerned about the size and weight difference between the two I am a passionate traveler and I dont want my laptop to limit my freedom so I am not sure if 16" model is a good fit for me I am almost kind of satisfied with the current 13" size as there is the option to zoom in to stuff using control+two finger gesture but like I said if the size doesn't make a huge difference in the mobility and I can get a significant boost in my productivity + play then I think the investment on 16" won't hurt. Thoughts? [link] [comments]

Pro (8th gen 2020) vs Air (10th gen 2020), which one should I get as a student Posted: 05 May 2020 02:15 PM PDT I was thinking of getting the 2020 Macbook Air but with the thermals getting super high, I was considering the new MacBook pro but with 8th gen processor. MBA: i5 with 16gb based storage (10th gen) MBP: I5 with 16gb based storage (8th gen) My workload consists of using it for school, few chrome tabs and maybe OneNote for notes. I do have a desktop at home to play games and other stuff, would you guys recommend Air or the Pro? I'm just concerned with the heating problems that the air has and might be uncomfortable for me to use. Once or twice a year, when I go travelling I'll probably use lightroom and FinalCut for editing videos/photos. Currently I have the 2012 mid Macbook pro 13" (Upgraded 16gb ram and SSD) and don't think I can wait until the rumoured 14" inch coming [link] [comments]

Posted: 05 May 2020 09:56 PM PDT Is it possible to connect a nondetachable keyboard from a macbook air to an iphone? I want to use a keyboard to play games on my iphone and don't have a detachable one. [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 May 2020 09:49 PM PDT I bought it already without much research because refurbished products are really fast to sell out. I've never had a MacBook before. I'm a university student that writes a lot of long papers and use Adobe Suite. I didn't save that much money on it, maybe only $60 off the original price. I'm just worried that there would be better deals for better models. Just wondering if it's worth it and if anyone is willing to share their experiences with it :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 May 2020 07:53 AM PDT About to sell my 2016 15". Apple just replaced the screen, keyboard, and battery so hoping for at least $1200 (2.6, 16gb, 256gb, 460) Do I buy The current 2019 16" from the refurbished store for ≈ $2000 or should I wait until the release of the 2020 16"? Purchasing my first MacBook. Need help. Posted: 05 May 2020 08:45 PM PDT Decided I'm going to go with the air. I originally thought I would just go for the I5 with 8GB memory. While on the website I noticed that it's only a 100$ difference to jump up to the I7. I don't edit video and will edit photos once in a while. It will mostly be used for browsing and video streaming. My reasoning for the I7 would be because it would stay modern for a bit longer down the road when everything else is catching up. Will I still get my moneys worth with the I7 If I stay with the 8GB memory? [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 May 2020 11:54 AM PDT I just purchased my Pro on 4/24/2020 and Apple just released the 2020 pro with magic keyboard. Is it really worth it to return and get the 2020 instead? [link] [comments]
Upgrading MBP (Late 2013) to MBP 2020 Posted: 05 May 2020 10:55 AM PDT I am currently using a Macbook pro, late 2013. Specs: i5, 2.4 GHz, 8gb. I wanted to upgrade to the base model 2020 MBP w the i5, 1.4 GHz 8gb but wasn't sure if it is worth it for my case. I'm a college student so I use my laptop for running the Microsoft suite as well as use Adobe Photoshop and lightroom for photo-editing. Some insight would be greatly appreciated!! What adapter to get for 2020 macbook air? Posted: 05 May 2020 03:17 PM PDT I am struggling to understand which kind of adapter i might need for my new Macbook air 2020 which is on the way. I am upgrading from a 2015 MacBook Air that has the regular USB slot which my extremal hard drive can connect to. The 2020 macbook air appears to come with thunderbolt 3 slots. I tried searching usb to thunderbolt 3 adapter but I'm not seeing anything come up. Perhaps i don't understand this at all if anybody could shed some light. Thank you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 May 2020 10:09 AM PDT I'm kind of new to what I can get for the MacBook that can benefit me. I'm looking into things I can get for the menu bar that could help me utilize my MacBook the most. Anything could help preferably cheap or free:) [link] [comments]
Should I send my 2017 MBP to the Keyboard Replacement Program if nothing is wrong with it? Posted: 05 May 2020 05:33 PM PDT I want to send it for the quieter, smoother, and improved keyboard on my 2017 MacBook pro. I've read that sending it in is worth it and people even get a new battery when they send it in. The thing is, nothing is really wrong with my Macbook. The keys all work fine and I haven't had any issues, I just have a newer Macbook for work with the new keyboard and I enjoy it much more than the one on my personal Macbook. Do you guys think it's worth me sending my personal Macbook in for the Keyboard Replacement program, even if nothing is wrong? Would they even take it in? I've also read stories of some people's Macbooks coming back worse or with issues down the line as a result of the program. [link] [comments]
Macbook Air 2020 - Issue with external monitor Posted: 05 May 2020 05:19 PM PDT I'm having a bit of an issue with connecting my Macbook Air 2020 to an external monitor. For reference, the monitor is an Acer H236HL, I am connecting through a Hootoo hub. The issue is that things just don't look right. For starters the colors are over saturated looking, no mater what I adjust on the monitor settings. The other issue is that the text is a bit jagged or blurry. I've tried messing with font smoothing options but this has no effect. I especially notice this in Excel or Word where text looks much smaller and harder to read then you expect even when it is set to zoom 100%. Increasing the zoom makes it larger but it is still very jagged. Could this issue be related to the hub? Perhaps it has bad quality for the HDMI output. I'd be willing to get a new adapter or hub but don't want to shell out and then have the same issue. Does the official Apple multiport adapter make a difference? I'm not crazy about the price but I'd pay it if it gives the best experience. [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 May 2020 01:17 PM PDT I have a MBA that will be 6 months old in a couple of weeks. I have noticed over the past couple of weeks the battery is draining almost twice as quick as it was and I haven't been using it any differently. Anybody else experience this ? [link] [comments]
Is there a way to turn a Macbook's screen display to completely dark? Posted: 05 May 2020 01:03 PM PDT
I like to use the computer for typing, with the screen completely black. When I turn the brightness to zero however, you can still see the screen a little bit. It's not completely black. Would there be a way to achieve a complete 'blackness' such that it looks like the display is off, but you can still type and do other mouse movements?
Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 May 2020 12:16 PM PDT I bought the base 2019 MacBook pro back in October last year. It was working great until it wouldn't turn on a couple days ago. I brought it to an apple authorized repair center and they said that it is probably the logic board. Is it normal to have this kind of thing happen so soon after buying it. I am worried that it might happen again later down the road when the 1 year warranty is up. I am a student and don't want to be paying hundreds of dollars in repairs. Should I sell the Mac, after it is repaired, and get maybe the base model MacBook Air or go for a different Apple model. I will be using this computer for basic tasks: emails, writing papers. The most intensive other tasks would be running Caibre and Handbrake. Not sure if I should consider a Windows computer. I really like MacOS though. Any thoughts? Also any idea why the computer failed? [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 May 2020 11:38 AM PDT Hello, I have a MacBook and I also have an old CD ROM that I am dying to play for nostalgia. The box says Windows 95 & 98. I have looked up a few ways to make this work and have downloaded a windows 98 first edition ISO and have downloaded Virtual Box. I have watched tutorials online and have not been able to get it to download correctly.. does anyone have any tips? I would love any help or to know if this is even possible at all. Thank you! MacBook Pros vs MacBook Air Display Posted: 05 May 2020 01:43 PM PDT Hi everyone! Was finally looking to upgrade from an old HP, after consistently having an iPhone, AirPods, Apple Watch, etc. and thought the next step was to make everything in the same ecosystem. [link] [comments] |
